Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I discovered a long time ago that I was never going to be Arnold Schwarzenegger, or as I had hoped a professional baseball player so I set out to just enjoy working out. This included running, weightlifting, and some skill activities like pick-up softball games or basketball games. In my 30's and 40's these worked fine but I found that I had to do more and more to stay in shape and to stay well simply fit. I am currently 69 years old, have had quadruple by-pass which I trained for (I will include that story at the end of this book) and have come to terms with the fact that more isn't necessarily better and as we grow older and we have to get the most bang for our buck when it comes down to exercise. Exercising for 10 minutes every day for a year can put you on the path to good health and it helps to prime the pump so that it becomes easier, which creates the desire to want to do more. But fitness doesn't only include the physical dimension. Fitness includes the mental, the emotional and the spiritual dimension as well. Reading for 10 minutes every day can be a welcome break from technology and can help us expand our vocabulary and knowledge base. Even those who fear going out of their house can benefit from just a 10 minute walk and a friendly greeting to one of their neighbors. This can also help them to strengthen their emotions and begin to see some of the good in the world. Ten minutes of prayer and meditation can help strengthen our faith and create in us a sense of wellbeing and peace. All of these things sound great don't they? Well they are if we just do them consistently. I am sixty nine years old as I stated above and have played the start and stop game my whole life. I have discovered that patience is the key to any form of change that a person wants to make. I have to be patient with myself and others, that's what makes the difference. Change will come as long as I don't give up. The change will be incremental but it will come as long as I stay the course and remain consistent, that's when you will realize that you are Simply Fit. Enjoy the book. James H Burns, MA, DHL, CPT NASM Certified Personal Trainer

Download or read book Diversity Matters written by Emily Allen Williams and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2021-06-29 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Social justice rhetoric is prevalent in contemporary America, but are we as a nation ready to do the work to effect real change? Emily Allen Williams has gathered a group of essays that interrogate matters of inclusion, diversity, equity, and access. In doing so, the essays contribute to what Williams call “tilling the ground,” i.e. a process by which the nation is prepared for the changes that must follow the rhetoric through the work of diversity and inclusion in a variety of social arenas. With subject matters ranging from the Black Lives Matter movement and children’s literature to the contemporary workplace and university, the collected essays present and analyze progress that is already being made and outline ways for our society to continue to move this process forward until the rhetoric of social justice manifests in actual conditions of inclusion, diversity, equity, and access throughout the nation.
