Book Simplified Point and Interval Estimation for Removal Trapping

Download or read book Simplified Point and Interval Estimation for Removal Trapping written by Andrew P. Soms and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two methods, the generalized moment and the regression, both based on the limiting distribution of the multinomial, are given for estimating the parameters in the removal trapping method of estimating animal and insect populations. Some finite sample size results are provided indicating the speed of convergence to the limiting distribution. Numerical examples are also discussed. (Author).

Book Introduction to Ecological Sampling

Download or read book Introduction to Ecological Sampling written by Bryan F.J. Manly and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2014-10-20 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An Easy-to-Understand Treatment of Ecological Sampling Methods and Data Analysis Including only the necessary mathematical derivations, Introduction to Ecological Sampling shows how to use sampling procedures for ecological and environmental studies. It incorporates both traditional sampling methods and recent developments in environmental and ecological sampling methods. After an introduction, the book presents standard sampling methods and analyses. Subsequent chapters delve into specialized topics written by well-known researchers. These chapters cover adaptive sampling methods, line transect sampling, removal and change-in-ratio methods, plotless sampling, mark-recapture sampling of closed and open populations, occupancy models, sampling designs for environmental modeling, and trend analysis. The book explains the methods as simply as possible, keeping equations and their derivations to a minimum. It provides references to important, more advanced sampling methods and analyses. It also directs readers to computer programs that can be used to perform the analyses. Accessible to biologists, the text only assumes a basic knowledge of statistical methods. It is suitable for an introductory course on methods for collecting and analyzing ecological and environmental data.

Book Capture recapture and Removal Methods for Sampling Closed Populations

Download or read book Capture recapture and Removal Methods for Sampling Closed Populations written by Gary C. White and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problem of estimating animal abundance is common in wildlife management and environmental impact assessment. Capture-recapture and removal methods are often used to estimate population size. Statistical Inference From Capture Data On Closed Animal Populations, a monograph by Otis et al. (1978), provides us with a comprehensive synthesis of much of the wildlife and statistical literature on the methods, as well as some extensions of the general theory. In our primer, we focus on capture-recapture and removal methods for trapping studies in which a population is assumed to be closed and do not treat open-population models, such as the Jolly-Seber model, or catch-effort methods in any detail. The primer, written for students interested in population estimation, is intended for use with the more theoretical monograph.
