Book Simon Sez The Future or BUST

Download or read book Simon Sez The Future or BUST written by James W. Haworth and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2012-10-26 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mission of this book is to spread positive thoughts to others. I encourage each of you to do the same, so, whether you buy my book or not, try to give each person you meet a small part of yourself in a positive way. You will find that through giving, your life is more worth living. My alter ego is called Stargazer III. He says things that get your attention in ways that I might not. I use him a lot in this book. In this book you will find many varied short sayings that encourage you through wit and wisdom to enjoy life to the fullest. Some bits of advice are given in a totally serious and sometimes blunt way, while others are delivered with a humorous zing! In some places you will find poetry that delivers the point better. Aphorisms are my favorite tool to use. They are very short wise or witty sayings that leave an indelible print on your mind and memory. These are the shortest sayings that pack a mighty punch. For instance: “Don’t fold just ‘cause you’re old!” “It’s up to us to make it positive!” “A short fuse doesn’t Give you much time to think! I have also included a few short stories that deliver an underlying point to ponder as you begin to live your life to the fullest. Frequently, I employ an unexpected twist to surprise the unsuspecting reader. Whether or not you are familiar with the Mayan Calendar and it’s end in December 2012, It is my premise that we will survive it.

Book The Final Days of Great American Shopping

Download or read book The Final Days of Great American Shopping written by Gilbert Allen and published by Univ of South Carolina Press. This book was released on 2016-04-30 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A quirky assortment of materialistic suburbanites trying to supersize and spend their way to happiness An affectionate satire of the culture of self-indulgence, The Final Days of Great American Shopping exposes the American obsessions with money, mass marketing, and material objects. In Belladonna, a gated subdivision in upstate South Carolina, readers meet acolorful cast of characters doing their best to buy happiness in a series of sixteen closely linked stories from the past, present, and future. Whether speed dating, test driving cars, upsizing to dream houses, flying helicopters, or lusting after designer shoes, these small-town spenders have good intentions that often go hilariously awry as they search for emotional and spiritual comfort. Gilbert Allen is a master at character development and the individuals in this collection are no exception. Among them are the childless, emotionally distant couple Butler and Marjory Breedlove; the harried appliance salesman John Beegle and his precocious, pole-dancing daughter Alison; and the one-handed soccer wunderkind Amy Knobloch. Also featured are Ted Dickey the mastermind of the Mental Defectives self-help book series and the undefeated Speed Dating Champion of the World; Jimmy Scheetz, the pragmatic philanthropist behind Ecumenical Bedding; Ruthella Anderson, a retired first-grade teacher addicted to Star Trek and to extreme couponing; and the mysterious Gabriella, an aging Italian beauty who presides over Doumi Shoes. Arranged chronologically, the stories span nearly a century. While most are set in the recent past or in the immediate future, the book's title story is set in 2084. It depicts a dystopian shopping mall worthy of George Orwell, John Cheever, or Flannery O'Connor, and raises the question, "Can America survive international terrorism, ecological apocalypse, and demographic disaster to morph triumphantly into the USAARP?"

Book Leaders Eat Last

Download or read book Leaders Eat Last written by Simon Sinek and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2017-05-23 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finally in paperback: the New York Times bestseller by the acclaimed, bestselling author of Start With Why and Together is Better. Now with an expanded chapter and appendix on leading millennials, based on Simon Sinek's viral video "Millenials in the workplace" (150+ million views). Imagine a world where almost everyone wakes up inspired to go to work, feels trusted and valued during the day, then returns home feeling fulfilled. This is not a crazy, idealized notion. Today, in many successful organizations, great leaders create environments in which people naturally work together to do remarkable things. In his work with organizations around the world, Simon Sinek noticed that some teams trust each other so deeply that they would literally put their lives on the line for each other. Other teams, no matter what incentives are offered, are doomed to infighting, fragmentation and failure. Why? The answer became clear during a conversation with a Marine Corps general. "Officers eat last," he said. Sinek watched as the most junior Marines ate first while the most senior Marines took their place at the back of the line. What's symbolic in the chow hall is deadly serious on the battlefield: Great leaders sacrifice their own comfort--even their own survival--for the good of those in their care. Too many workplaces are driven by cynicism, paranoia, and self-interest. But the best ones foster trust and cooperation because their leaders build what Sinek calls a "Circle of Safety" that separates the security inside the team from the challenges outside. Sinek illustrates his ideas with fascinating true stories that range from the military to big business, from government to investment banking.

Book excerpt: Four smart women . . . and their foolish choice. In love with the same man. The wrong man. Women found him so easy to love. Clay Bowen had it all—charisma, good looks, and power in the glamorous world of television. Laura, the delicate dancer, gave up her dazzling career to marry him and have his child. Nina excelled at everything—except capturing her father’s complete attention. Bambi, his ruthless young “assistant,” thought she was using him. And Susan, a brilliant writer, couldn’t bear to think their twenty-year bicoastal romance was too good to be true. In her most riveting novel since The Best of Everything, Rona Jaffe weaves a compelling story of passion and obsession. Moving from the glittering capitals of the world and the epicenter of the TV and movie industries to the darkest depths of the human heart, she holds her readers captive to the very last page. Book Simon Sort of Says

Download or read book Simon Sort of Says written by Erin Bow and published by Disney Electronic Content. This book was released on 2023-01-31 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For fans of Kate DiCamillo and Jack Gantos, a hilarious, wrenching, hopeful novel about finding your friends, healing your heart, and speaking your truth. Simon O’Keeffe’s biggest claim to fame should be the time his dad accidentally gave a squirrel a holy sacrament. Or maybe the alpaca disaster that went viral on YouTube. But the story the whole world wants to tell about Simon is the one he’d do anything to forget: the one starring Simon as a famous survivor of gun violence at school. Two years after the infamous event, twelve-year-old Simon and his family have just moved to the National Quiet Zone—the only place in America where the internet is banned. Instead of talking about Simon, the astronomers who flock to the area are busy listening for signs of life in space. And when Simon makes a friend who’s determined to give the scientists what they’re looking for, he’ll finally have the chance to spin a new story for the world to tell. From award-winning author Erin Bow, Simon Sort of Says is a breathtaking testament to the lasting echoes of trauma, the redemptive power of humor, and the courage it takes to move forward without forgetting the past.
