Download or read book Similarity of Near Noise Fields of Subsonic Jets written by Walton L. Howes and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Similarity relations for frequency-pass-band, as well as overall, time-averaged pressure fluctuations outside a jet are derived and tested using experimental data. Similarity of the pressure fields was found for different jet velocities. Nozzle contour dissimilarity and differing jet temperatures were found to limit seriously the application of similarity relations, especially near the jet nozzle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A general theory of solid-state diffusion in strained systems is developed on a molecular-kinetic basis. The theory predicts that for simple strains the diffusion coefficient is an exponential function of the lattice parameter and that the rate of change of the diffusion coefficient with strain is linearly related to the interatomic forces. It has also been shown that for plastic flow the diffusion coefficient is a linear function of strain rate. All the conclusions are confirmed by the data available in the literature.

Download or read book The Near Noise Field of Static Jets and Some Model Studies of Devices for Noise Reduction written by Leslie W. Lassiter and published by . This book was released on 1954 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Choked operation of model jets with unheated air indicates the appearence of a discrete-frequency component of very large magnitude. Shadowgraph records of the flow show that this condtion is associated with the appearance of flow formations suggestive of partly formed toroidal vortices in the vicinity of the shocks. Elimination of these formations is found to eliminate the discrete component and thereby to reduce the overall noise level.

Book excerpt: " ... This survey is one of a series of NASA publications that include information of interest to the non-aerospace community. In this survey, the major revival and expansion of acoustic technology that took place in the middle of this century has been reviewed. ... The information in this document is based on a comprehensive examination of the literature available on the subject. The reference material is concerned primarily with investigations of the mechanisms by which noise is generated, the propagation of noise by spacecraft boosters, the origin of noise generated by compressors in aircraft turbojet engines, and the subjective effects of noise on humans. Because many of these investigations are still in progress, the extent to which they are treated is limited in some cases. It is hoped, however, that the information presented here will stimulate interest in acoustics and the control of noise, and will guide interested persons to sources of specific information in the literature presently available."--Foreword.
