Download or read book Silvical Characteristics of Eastern White Pine Pinus Strobus written by Robert W. Wilson (Jr.) and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: S2Much of the silvical information about our forest trees is widely scattered and sometimes difficult to find. To make this material more readily available, the U.S. Forest Service, is assembling information on the silvical characteristics of the important native forest tree species of the United States. It is expected that this information will be published as a comprehensive silvics manual. This paper presents the silvical characteristics of one specieseastern white pine. It contains the essential information that will appear in the general manual but has been written with particular reference to the species in the Northeast. Similar reports on other species have been prepared by the Northeastern Forest Experiment Station and several of the other regional experiment stations of the U.S. Forest Service. S3.

Book The Mensurational Characteristics of Eastern White Pine

Download or read book The Mensurational Characteristics of Eastern White Pine written by Robert Jay Marty and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: S2There probably is a more extensive professional and scientific literature relating to eastern white pine (Pinus strobus L.) than for any other North American forest tree species. Unfortunately this material is scattered in thousands of books, theses, bulletins, and journal articles, making access and retrieval a serious problem for the forest researcher and practitioner alike. Three of the most frequently used classes of white pine mensurational data are estimators of site index, tree volume tables, and stand growth and yield predictors. This paper brings together some of this information. Only the more widely applicable studies are reproduced here; much additional information of local significance is represented in the literature and is available.S3.

This timely book examines all of the key ecological, social, and economic management considerations essential to utilizeand sustain these vital woodlands effectively. First, it develops the background necessary to understand whatmakes the hardwood eco-system function, with a thorough examinationof the physiography, geology, soils, and climate of the region anda historical overview of its evolution and development frompre-European settlement to the present. Then, species by species, the book details the silvical characteristics of 34 important treespecies. Next, it offers expert recommendations for effectiveforest treatment and management, from specific concerns such astimber production, pollution, and financial planning to broaderissues, including the role of the natural resource manager and thebiological potential of the entire region. Generously supplemented with graphs and photos, Ecology andManagement of Central Hardwood Forests is important reading forforesters, natural resource managers, regional planners, environmental scientists, governmental officials--everyone with astake in the future of this critical living resource.
