Book Silkworm Seed Cocoon Production

Download or read book Silkworm Seed Cocoon Production written by Hussain Mubashar and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sericulture, Silkworm (Bombyxmori L.; Bombycidae) rearing and cultivation of mulberry for the production of natural silk in the form of cocoons has been utilized as an important industry in tropical and temperate regions of the world. The study was undertaken to evaluate the adaptability of silkworm lines under stress environment with reference to seed cocoon production. Eleven inbred silkworm lines were exposed to various rearing conditions in laboratory as well as field conditions during autumn and spring season. The Evaluation Index values showed that some of the silkworm lines are commercially viable and need to be used in developing silkworm hybrids for better cocoon production. The study also emphasizes on the rearing of silkworm lines under controlled conditions of temperature and humidity for seed cocoon production.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In sericulturally advanced countries, the seed production technologies have been perfected to its highest level. Though, in India silkworm seed production is practiced since decades, it is yet to be standardized to its perfection. To meet the requirement of seed to Indian sericulture farmers, the country requires more than 30 crore disease free commercial silkworm seed. However, all the agencies in the country together produce only 24 crore disease free layings (Dfls) and thus there is production shortage of some six crore disease free layings. In this backdrop, this book is prepared with the objective to explain the various strategies to be adopted in the production of better quality and higher quantity of silkworm eggs. The book "Silkworm Egg Science: Principles & Protocols" tries to motivate and assist in its efforts to unveil secrete of the various existing problems related to silkworm egg to increase production, productivity and quality of cocoons. Spread over ten chapters, the book has wide coverage on disinfection and hygiene, egg production technologies, embryonic development, egg diapause and biochemical modulations, preservation of eggs, hibernation schedules, artificial hatching of eggs for rearing of silkworm in appropriate season, methods of incubation, adaptation to changing environment besides prevention and control of pebrine disease of eggs and pests to achieve sustained and quality silkworm eggs and stable cocoon crop. The technical components are meticulously incorporated in this book to make it fairly comprehensive reference material. The book is designed to address wide range of readers, experts, university teachers, students, researchers, technologists, policy makers and fulfill the hopes and aspirations of all those engaged in sericulture in general and egg production in particular. The information furnished in this book will be of immense importance not only to Indian sericulture but also to South Asian and African countries and will find an application at all levels of sericulture.

Book Tropical Wild Silk Cocoons of India

Download or read book Tropical Wild Silk Cocoons of India written by P. K. Mohanty and published by Daya Books. This book was released on 2003 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In India, the production to tropical tasar silk remained next to mulberry silk for decades, constituting about 4 per cent of the total silk production. Here is an ever increasing demand for tasar silk owing to its strength, lustre and copper brown colour. The tasar silk production has stagnated and declined in the recent past through the demand is increasing. The important reasons for low production are attributed to traditional method of silkworm rearing on all trees in natural habitat, which exposes the larvae to a number of predators, parasites and diseases apart from natural vagaries. The wild sericigenous insects like tasar silkworms have in due course of time came to stay as semi domestic for the regular efforts and interests that revolved round its economic utility. Age-old craft lived with the age-old practices linked with the culture and tradition of the aboriginals; has not allowed the industry to take a commercial shape and spread. However, due stress on the application of 4 Ms, viz., man, material, machine and management need to be emphasized towards enhancing quality linked production. Considering the overall potentiality of wild silkmoths in India, the technology perfection and its adoption could go a long way in harnessing the available flora for rearing tasar silkworms which in turn can be expected to increase the cocoon productivity. In this book emphasis has been given on the types of cocoon, quality and quantum of cocoon production and introduction of improvised seed technology package. This is expected to help the readers a systematic and scientific way of cultivating the tasar. Discussion has been made as to the significance of tropical tasar culture for sustainable development. Relevant detailed references, illustrations and tables with exhaustive index had an enduring appeal for the sericulturists, biotechnologists, technocrats and students of sericulture background. Contents Chapter 1: Introduction; Chapter 2: Silk Scenario; Chapter 3: Taxonomic Profile of Silkworms; Chapter 4: Development and Biometry; Chapter 5: Biometry and Typology; Chapter 6: The Future Scenario.

Book Adaptation of Silkworm to Different Ecology of Nepal

Download or read book Adaptation of Silkworm to Different Ecology of Nepal written by Narahari Prasad Ghimire and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2013 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Relatively harder and high production potential silkworms suitable to different ecological domains are necessary for sericulture enterprise, a farm based labor intensive agro-enterprise. The climatic data proves that mid-hill has favorable agro-eco-climate for mulberry based bivoltine sericulture. This book explores the adaptability of bivoltine silkworm pure breed and hybrid genotypes to different ecological domains through different experiments including seven ecological domains, two pure breeds and five hybrids. Based on performance through multi-location testing over years, the book finish off the suitable ecological domains for pure breeds (J12 and C12) as Pokhara and Dhunibesi, while for hybrids as Khopasi and Pokhara (J12xC12) and Dhunibesi (N109xN112). The book recommends focusing future research and development in this discipline to concentrate seed cocoon production on highly productive and low mortality ecological domains and assess best performing silkworm hybrids for quality cocoon with better economic returns. The information is useful for sericulturists, professionals working in the field of Entomology and students studying Entomology, specifically the sericulture."
