Book Silicon Germanium Carbon Alloys

Download or read book Silicon Germanium Carbon Alloys written by S. Pantellides and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2002-07-26 with total page 552 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Carbon (C) and Silicon Germanium (SiGe) work like a magic sauce. At least in small concentrations, they make everything taste better. It is remarkable enough that SiGe, a new material, and the heterobipolar transistor, a new device, appear on the brink of impacting the exploding wireless market. The addition of C to SiGe, albeit in small concentrations, looks to have breakthrough potential. Here, at last, is proof that materials science can put a rocket booster on the silicon-mind, the silicon transistor. Scientific excitement arises, as always, from the new possibilities a multicomponent materials system offers. Bandgaps can be changed, strains can be tuned, and properties can be tailored. This is catnip to the materials scientist. The wide array of techniques applied here to the SiGeC system bear testimony to the ingenious approaches now available for mastering the complexities of new materials

Book Epitaxial Growth of Nitrides on Germanium

Download or read book Epitaxial Growth of Nitrides on Germanium written by Ruben Lieten and published by ASP / VUBPRESS / UPA. This book was released on 2009-09 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive guide to the formation of epitaxial III-Nitrides and epitaxial Ge3N4 on germanium substrates--and solid phase epitaxy of germanium on silicon substrates--this work presents a simple but effective method for growing epitaxial III-Nitride layers on crystalline germanium surfaces. Beside epitaxial III-Nitride growth, a method is introduced to obtain epitaxial Ge3N4 on germanium. Finally a novel method to produce high-quality germanium layers on silicon is introduced, allowing interactions between germanium devices and silicon technology. This study provides researchers with a detailed look at the formation of crystalline nitrides on germanium, germanium on silicon, Schottky contacts on germanium, and electrochemical measurements.

Book Silicon Molecular Beam Epitaxy

Download or read book Silicon Molecular Beam Epitaxy written by E. Kasper and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-05-04 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This subject is divided into two volumes. Volume I is on homoepitaxy with the necessary systems, techniques, and models for growth and dopant incorporation. Three chapters on homoepitaxy are followed by two chapters describing the different ways in which MBE may be applied to create insulator/Si stackings which may be used for three-dimensional circuits. The two remaining chapters in Volume I are devoted to device applications. The first three chapters of Volume II treat all aspects of heteroepitaxy with the exception of the epitaxial insulator/Si structures already treated in volume I.

Book Strain Relaxation and Solid Phase Epitaxial Regrowth in Ion Implanted Strained Silicon and Strained Silicon Germanium

Download or read book Strain Relaxation and Solid Phase Epitaxial Regrowth in Ion Implanted Strained Silicon and Strained Silicon Germanium written by Michelle S. Phen and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In tension, regrowth related defects were nucleated as the amorphous-crystalline front advanced to the surface. Once regrowth was complete, the regrowth related defects propagated down to the strained interface and formed stacking faults which promoted further relaxation. In compression, the advancing amorphous-crystalline front roughened and nucleated an extended dislocation network. The density of these dislocations were stable and did not depend on temperature or duration of anneals. The results from this study conclude that the SPER process can be achieved without strain loss or defect nucleation for moderate strain values in tension. However, in compression all strain levels in this study nucleated defects and exhibited strain relaxation.

Book SiGe and Si Strained Layer Epitaxy for Silicon Heterostructure Devices

Download or read book SiGe and Si Strained Layer Epitaxy for Silicon Heterostructure Devices written by John D. Cressler and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-12-19 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What seems routine today was not always so. The field of Si-based heterostructures rests solidly on the shoulders of materials scientists and crystal growers, those purveyors of the semiconductor “black arts” associated with the deposition of pristine films of nanoscale dimensionality onto enormous Si wafers with near infinite precision. We can now grow near-defect free, nanoscale films of Si and SiGe strained-layer epitaxy compatible with conventional high-volume silicon integrated circuit manufacturing. SiGe and Si Strained-Layer Epitaxy for Silicon Heterostructure Devices tells the materials side of the story and details the many advances in the Si-SiGe strained-layer epitaxy for device applications. Drawn from the comprehensive and well-reviewed Silicon Heterostructure Handbook, this volume defines and details the many advances in the Si/SiGe strained-layer epitaxy for device applications. Mining the talents of an international panel of experts, the book covers modern SiGe epitaxial growth techniques, epi defects and dopant diffusion in thin films, stability constraints, and electronic properties of SiGe, strained Si, and Si-C alloys. It includes appendices on topics such as the properties of Si and Ge, the generalized Moll-Ross relations, integral charge-control relations, and sample SiGe HBT compact model parameters.

Book Strained Silicon Heterostructures

Download or read book Strained Silicon Heterostructures written by C. K. Maiti and published by IET. This book was released on 2001 with total page 520 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book comprehensively covers the areas of materials growth, characterisation and descriptions for the new devices in siliconheterostructure material systems. In recent years, the development of powerful epitaxial growth techniques such as molecular beam epitaxy (MBE), ultra-high vacuum chemical vapour deposition (UHVCVD) and other low temperature epitaxy techniques has given rise to a new area of research of bandgap engineering in silicon-based materials. This has paved the way not only for heterojunction bipolar and field effect transistors, but also for other fascinating novel quantum devices. This book provides an excellent introduction and valuable references for postgraduate students and research scientists.

Book C H N and O in Si and Characterization and Simulation of Materials and Processes

Download or read book C H N and O in Si and Characterization and Simulation of Materials and Processes written by A. Borghesi and published by Newnes. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Containing over 200 papers, this volume contains the proceedings of two symposia in the E-MRS series. Part I presents a state of the art review of the topic - Carbon, Hydrogen, Nitrogen and Oxygen in Silicon and in Other Elemental Semiconductors. There was strong representation from the industrial laboratories, illustrating that the topic is highly relevant for the semiconductor industry. The second part of the volume deals with a topic which is undergoing a process of convergence with two concerns that are more particularly application oriented. Firstly, the advanced instrumentation which, through the use of atomic force and tunnel microscopies, high resolution electron microscopy and other high precision analysis instruments, now allows for direct access to atomic mechanisms. Secondly, the technological development which in all areas of applications, particularly in the field of microelectronics and microsystems, requires as a result of the miniaturisation race, a precise mastery of the microscopic mechanisms.
