Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Nanomaterials" is a special topic of recent research and is a milestone of nanoscience and nanotechnology. Nanoscale materials are a series of substances/compounds, in which at least one dimension has smaller size than 100 nm. Nanomaterials have a broad area of development, which is growing rapidly day by day. Their impact on commercial applications as well as on the respective academia and education is huge. The basic points of this book can be divided into synthesis of nanomaterials and their applications. For example, special mention is about metal-oxide nanostructures, nanocomposites, and polymeric nanomaterials. Also, synthesis, characterizations, various processes, fabrications and some promising applications are also developed and analyzed.

Book Migrations of Fines in Porous Media

Download or read book Migrations of Fines in Porous Media written by Kartic C. Khilar and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1998-10-31 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book entirely on the topic of Migration of Fine Particles in Porous Media. There are two purposes for the use of this book. First, the book is intended to serve as a comprehensive monograph for scientists and engineers concerned with problems of erosion, pollution and plugging due to migration of fines in porous media. Second, the book is recommended to be used as a reference book for courses offered at senior or graduate level on the topics of flow through porous media, soil erosion and pollution, or formation damage. The migration of fine particles in porous media is an engineering concern in oil production, soil erosion, ground water pollution and in the operation of filter beds. As a result, the topic has been studied by researchers working in a number of disciplines. These studies in different disciplines are conducted, by and large, independently and hence there is some repetition and perhaps more importantly there is a lack of uniformity and coherence. These studies, nevertheless, complement each other. To illustrate the point, consider for example the migration of fine particles induced by hydrodynamic forces.

Book Synthesis Characterization of Silica Coated Iron Oxide Nanoparticles by Sol Gel Technique

Download or read book Synthesis Characterization of Silica Coated Iron Oxide Nanoparticles by Sol Gel Technique written by and published by . This book was released on with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: \Alpha$-Fe_2O_3$ nanoparticles and Silica Coated $Fe_2O_3$ Particles were synthesized by hydrothermal method and acid - base hydrolysis of TEOS respectively. The Core Shell Particles has been characterized by SEM, XRD, and Particle size analysis. From particle size analysis, it was seen that, the distribution maxima of $Fe_2O_3$ and $Fe_2O_3@SiO_2$ coated nanoparticle were of 120 & 350 nm, 150nm & 550 nm respectively. From XRD analysis, it was confirmed that silica sample nanoparticles is amorphous in nature. The SEM/EDX analysis data represents the presence of $Fe_2O_3@SiO_2$ and show only the compositions of $Si, O & Fe2O_3$ peaks. As $Fe_2O_3$ nanoparticles show applications in many fields including high density magnetic storage devices, ferrofluids, magnetic refrigeration systems, and catalysis. Aggregation of nanoparticles can be prevented by coating the particles with other materials. The core/shell structure enhances the thermal and chemical stability of the nanoparticles, improves solubility, makes them less cytotoxic and allows conjugation of other molecules to these particles.

Book Scientific and Clinical Applications of Magnetic Carriers

Download or read book Scientific and Clinical Applications of Magnetic Carriers written by Urs Häfeli and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 618 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The discovery of uniform latex particles by polymer chemists of the Dow Chemical Company nearly 50 years ago opened up new exciting fields for scientists and physicians and established many new biomedical applications. Many in vitro diagnostic tests such as the latex agglutination tests, analytical cell and phagocytosis tests have since become rou tine. They were all developed on the basis of small particles bound to biological active molecules and fluorescent and radioactive markers. Further developments are ongoing, with the focus now shifted to applications of polymer particles in the controlled and di rected transport of drugs in living systems. Four important factors make microspheres interesting for in vivo applications: First, biocompatible polymer particles can be used to transport known amounts of drug and re lease them in a controlled fashion. Second, particles can be made of materials which bio degrade in living organisms without doing any harm. Third, particles with modified surfaces are able to avoid rapid capture by the reticuloendothelial system and therefore en hance their blood circulation time. Fourth, combining particles with specific molecules may allow organ-directed targeting.

Book Morphology and Orientational Behavior of Silica coated Spindle type Hematite Particles in a Magnetic Field Probed by Small angle X ray Scattering

Download or read book Morphology and Orientational Behavior of Silica coated Spindle type Hematite Particles in a Magnetic Field Probed by Small angle X ray Scattering written by and published by . This book was released on with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Form factor and magnetic properties of silica-coated spindle-type hematite nanoparticles are determined from SAXS measurements with applied magnetic field and magnetometry measurements. The particle size, polydispersity and porosity are determined using a core−shell model for the form factor. The particles are found to align with their long axis perpendicular to the applied field. The orientational order is determined from the SAXS data and compared to the orientational order obtained from magnetometry. The direct access to both, the orientational order of the particles, and the magnetic moments allow one to determine the magnetic properties of the individual spindle-type hematite particles. We study the influence of the silica coating on the magnetic properties and find a fundamentally different behavior of silica-coated particles. The silica coating reduces the effective magnetic moment of the particles. This effect is enhanced with field strength and can be explained by superparamagnetic relaxation in the highly porous particles.
