Book Singular Limits in Thermodynamics of Viscous Fluids

Download or read book Singular Limits in Thermodynamics of Viscous Fluids written by Eduard Feireisl and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-03-28 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many interesting problems in mathematical fluid dynamics involve the behavior of solutions of nonlinear systems of partial differential equations as certain parameters vanish or become infinite. Frequently the limiting solution, provided the limit exists, satisfies a qualitatively different system of differential equations. This book is designed as an introduction to the problems involving singular limits based on the concept of weak or variational solutions. The primitive system consists of a complete system of partial differential equations describing the time evolution of the three basic state variables: the density, the velocity, and the absolute temperature associated to a fluid, which is supposed to be compressible, viscous, and heat conducting. It can be represented by the Navier-Stokes-Fourier-system that combines Newton's rheological law for the viscous stress and Fourier's law of heat conduction for the internal energy flux. As a summary, this book studies singular limits of weak solutions to the system governing the flow of thermally conducting compressible viscous fluids.

Book Mathematics and Life Sciences

Download or read book Mathematics and Life Sciences written by Alexandra V. Antoniouk and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2012-12-19 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book provides a unique collection of in-depth mathematical, statistical, and modeling methods and techniques for life sciences, as well as their applications in a number of areas within life sciences. The book provides also with a range of new ideas that represent emerging frontiers in life sciences where the application of such quantitative methods and techniques is becoming increasingly important. Many areas within life sciences are becoming increasingly quantitative and the progress in those areas will be more and more dependent on the successful development of advanced mathematical, statistical and modelling methodologies and techniques. The state-of-the-art developments in such methodologies and techniques are scattered throughout research journals and hardly accessible to the practitioners in those areas. This book identifies a number of frontier areas where such methodologies and techniques have recently been developed and are to be published here for the first time, bringing substantial potential benefit to a range of applications in life sciences. In addition, the book contains several state-of-the-art surveys at the interface of mathematics and life sciences that would benefit a larger interdisciplinary community. It is aimed at researchers in academia, practitioners and graduate students who want to foster interdisciplinary collaborations required to meet the challenges at the interface of modern life sciences and mathematics.

Book Proceedings of the Third International Algebra Conference

Download or read book Proceedings of the Third International Algebra Conference written by Yuen Fong and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains one invited lecture which was presented by the 1994 Fields Medal ist Professor E. Zelmanov and twelve other papers which were presented at the Third International Conference on Algebra and Their Related Topics at Chang Jung Christian University, Tainan, Republic of China, during the period June 26-July 1, 200l. All papers in this volume have been refereed by an international referee board and we would like to express our deepest thanks to all the referees who were so helpful and punctual in submitting their reports. Thanks are also due to the Promotion and Research Center of National Science Council of Republic of China and the Chang Jung Christian University for their generous financial support of this conference. The spirit of this conference is a continuation of the last two International Tainan Moscow Algebra Workshop on Algebras and Their Related Topics which were held in the mid-90's of the last century. The purpose of this very conference was to give a clear picture of the recent development and research in the fields of different kinds of algebras both in Taiwan and in the rest ofthe world, especially say, Russia" Europe, North America and South America. Thus, we were hoping to enhance the possibility of future cooperation in research work among the algebraists ofthe five continents. Here we would like to point out that this algebra gathering will constantly be held in the future in the southern part of Taiwan.

Book Proceedings Of The 7th And 8th Asian Logic Conferences

Download or read book Proceedings Of The 7th And 8th Asian Logic Conferences written by Mariko Yasugi and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2003-11-11 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 7th and the 8th Asian Logic Conferences belong to the series of logic conferences inaugurated in Singapore in 1981. This meeting is held once every three years and rotates among countries in the Asia-Pacific region, with interests in the broad area of logic, including theoretical computer science. It is now considered a major conference in this field and is regularly sponsored by the Association for Symbolic Logic. This book contains papers — many of them surveys by leading experts — of both the 7th meeting (in Hsi-Tou, Taiwan) and the 8th (in Chongqing, China). The volume planned for the 7th meeting was interrupted by the earthquake in Taiwan and the decision was made to combine the two proceedings. The 8th conference is also the ICM2002 Satellite Conference on Mathematical Logic.

Book Contributions to Operator Theory in Spaces with an Indefinite Metric

Download or read book Contributions to Operator Theory in Spaces with an Indefinite Metric written by Aad Dijksma and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is dedicated to Heinz Langer, a leading expert in spectral analysis and its applications, in particular to operators in spaces with an indefinite metric, on the occasion of his 60th birthday. The book begins with his biography and list of publications. It contains a selection of research papers, most of which are devoted to spectral analysis of operators or operator pencils with applications to ordinary and partial differential equations. Other papers deal with time-varying systems, interpolation and factorization problems, and topics from mathematical physics. About half of the papers contain further developments in the theory of operators in spaces with an indefinite metric and treat new applications. The book is of interest to a wide audience of pure and applied mathematicians.
