Book The Christian s Duty to Reject Christmas

Download or read book The Christian s Duty to Reject Christmas written by Thomas Mockett and published by Puritan Publications. This book was released on 2015-11-09 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mockett’s argument in this work is directed to well-meaning Christians who are defiling the Regulative Principle – that God alone determines the manner and time in which sinners are to approach him. Writing against the, “observation of Christ’s nativity,” Mockett shows the Christian how he is to reject, whole-heartily, adding Christ into Christmas as a religious or worship observance. Mr. Mockett is not going to deal with taking Christ out of Christmas. Instead, he is going to painstakingly demonstrate the ill-use of trying to reclaim Christ for Christmas as an unholy venture. He will show that it is a detestable, sinful practice to put Christ back into Christmas since men have no warrant from God to do so. Though they do this in pretense of honoring Christ in a day of worship, and do so with a sincere heart, as Mockett shows, “Good intentions and well meanings cannot justify any unwarrantable practice.” Mockett’s treatment of this issue is clear and well documented. The student of Scripture and historical theology cannot but come away with believing that reclaiming Christ in Christmas is truly a violation of God’s word, and a sinful practice which has harmed the church throughout its history.

Advent devotional on 1 Corinthians 13, reflecting on the source of authentic, divine, transforming love. Everyone seems to say that Christmas is about love. It’s in the songs we hear as we shop for presents and in the adverts we see on TV. It’s in the cards we send and on the gift tags we write. And Christians can agree. Christmas really is about love, because love came down at Christmas in the person of Jesus Christ. This Advent devotional contains 24 daily readings from 1 Corinthians 13. Sinclair B Ferguson brings the rich theology of the incarnation to life with his trademark warmth and clarity. We'll see what “love” looked like in the life of Christ and be challenged to love like him. Each day's reading finishes with a question for reflection and a prayer. However you're feeling, your heart will be refreshed as you wonder again at the truth that love came down at Christmas.

Book Shocked by the Bible

    Book Details:
  • Author : Joe Kovacs
  • Publisher : HarperChristian + ORM
  • Release : 2008-09-28
  • ISBN : 1418567086
  • Pages : 222 pages

Download or read book Shocked by the Bible written by Joe Kovacs and published by HarperChristian + ORM. This book was released on 2008-09-28 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shocked by the Bible sets the record straight with well-researched, controversial, myth-breaking assertions about what the Bible really does—and doesn’t—say. And guess on which day the Bible says Jesus died. Believe it or not, the Good Book doesn't mention Friday, and even more surprisingly, while the Bible says Jesus rose from the grave, it does not say it occurred Sunday morning. Remember, Jesus' followers found an empty tomb then. But don't feel bad if you've always assumed otherwise. Like countless millions of people, you've just been misinformed, misled or even (dare we say) lied to about what the Bible actually says. In a stunning investigation, news veteran Joe Kovacs goes on a mission to help both Christians and non-Christians alike find out what the Bible really contains, and what it doesn't. "Shocked by the Bible: The Most Astonishing Facts You've Never Been Told" is an educational juggernaut that relies solely on the Holy Bible to reveal hundreds of Scriptural facts that many people of all persuasions simply don't know. The book instantly skyrocketed to the No. 1 position in three Bible-related categories on Amazon.com. "I'm among the biggest fans of the Bible of all time," says Kovacs. "My goal is to educate people about the solid truth of Scripture and to stop the spread of erroneous information. I want people to crack open their Bibles and see with their own eyes what's actually printed on the pages, and what's not. It's shocking!" According to Scripture, you won't find "Three Wise Men" mentioned anywhere in the story of Jesus' birth. For that matter, none are said to have shown up at the manger in Bethlehem. The truth straight from your own Bible is that an unspecified number of wise men first met Jesus as a "young child" in a "house," not a babe in a manger, and it might have been more than a year after He was born. Go ahead, look it up for yourself. Also, according to Scripture, you won't find a single mention of Easter eggs, but you will find God warning His people not to have anything to do with a pagan fertility goddess, whose name is synonymous with "Easter." "Yes, I'm a Bible-believing Christian," says Kovacs. "But I'm not here to convert anyone. People are free to believe whatever they wish and can come to their own conclusions. I just want to show them the biblical record is often very different from what many assume. Not only will Christians love this book, but I think Jews, Muslims and even agnostics and atheists will get a kick out of it as well."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When was Christmas first celebrated? How did December 25 become the date for the feast? How did the Bible’s “magi from the East” become three kings named Melchior, Caspar, and Balthasar who rode camels from three different continents to worship the newborn Christ? How did the Feast of the Nativity generate an entire liturgical season from Advent to Candlemas? Why did medieval and Renaissance artists portray Joseph as an old man? When did the first Christmas music appear? And who was the real Saint Nicholas? These and many other questions are answered in this revised and expanded edition of The Origins of Christmas. The story of the origins of Christmas is not well known, but it is a fascinating tale. It begins when the first Christians had little interest in Christ’s Nativity, and it finishes when Christmas had become an integral part of Christian life and Western culture. The Origins of Christmas covers a variety of topics in a concise and accessible style, and is suitable for group discussions.

Book excerpt: Dr. Chuck Missler, a widely recognized Biblical authority, updates his classic study of Christmas for 2007. He explores the background, and myths, surrounding our favorite holiday. What really happened in Bethlehem two thousand years ago? Who were the "Magi?" Why a virgin birth? What does a Christmas Tree have to do with it?Each year at Christmas we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. After the New Year, we struggle to remember to add a year as we date our checks, which should remind us that the entire Western World reckons its calendar from the birth of the One who changed the world more than any other before or since. It is disturbing to discover that much of what we have been taught about the Christmas season seems to be more tradition than truth. Santa Claus isn't the only myth or legend that has arisen out of this season. On what "loophole" does the Messianic hope rest?

Book 4000 Years of Christmas

Download or read book 4000 Years of Christmas written by Earl W. Count and published by Ulysses Press. This book was released on 2000-09-29 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What if our entire civilization could write its own memoirs and tell the complete story of Christmas past? Surprisingly, the tale would begin not in Bethlehem, but two thousand years earlier in the cradle of civilization. It would be a nostalgic story involving Christians and non-Christians alike. Babylonians Greeks, and Romans - whose ancient customs became part of the Christmas celebration - would people its pages. We would see early Europeans hanging fir sprigs and winter greenery to renew life and protect against the cold blasts of Arctic wind. People who had not yet learned of the Christ child would be burning Yule logs. Of course, the most important chapter in these memoirs would take place in a manger surrounded by Wise Men and marked with a brilliant star. But the tale would continue on for another two thousand years as generation after generation added to the customs of Christmas.

Book excerpt: "How can you believe all this stuff? This is the number-one question Catholics get asked and, sometimes, we ask ourselves. Why do we believe that God exists, that he became a man and came to save us, that what looks like a wafer of bread is actually his body? Why do we believe that he inspired a holy book and founded an infallible Church to teach us the one true way to live? Ever since he became Catholic, Trent Horn has spent a lot of time answering these questions, trying to explain to friends, family, and total strangers the reasons for his Catholic faith. Some didn't believe in God, or even in the existence of truth. Others said they were spiritual but didn't think you needed religion to be happy. Some were Christians who thought Catholic doctrines over-complicated the pure gospel. And some were fellow Catholics who had a hard time understanding everything they professed to believe on Sunday. Why We're Catholic assembles the clearest, friendliest, most helpful answers that Trent learned to give to all these people and more. Beginning with how we can know reality and ending with our hope of eternal life, it s the perfect way to help skeptics and seekers (or Catholics who want to firm up their faith) understand the evidence that bolsters our belief and brings us joy" --

Book Bah Humbug How Christians Should Think About the Christmas Holiday

Download or read book Bah Humbug How Christians Should Think About the Christmas Holiday written by C. Matthew McMahon and published by Puritan Publications. This book was released on 2012-10-20 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When it comes to the Christmas Holiday, Christians fall on one of two sides: either they abandon it altogether as pagan and idolatrous, or they celebrate it all together as the most wonderful time of the year. Some have nothing to do with Christmas at all, and others invite Christmas into sermons, Sunday worship, family gatherings and the like. People who believe Christmas is idolatrous quote church history and expound the Regulative Principle of worship. Those who want to celebrate Christmas want to reclaim Christmas as eminently Christian since “Jesus is the Reason for the Season.” What is the biblical view? Is it one or the other, or is there a view more accommodating to both sides? What if both of those extreme views are wrong, and there is another option that is less thought about but more biblically based? Can Christians partake in Christmas…or not? This is not a scan or facsimile, has been updated in modern English for easy reading and has an active table of contents for electronic versions.

Throughout the world today, people celebrate Christmas joyously and with great excitement. It is one of the biggest holidays being celebrated everywhere. However, the question is: 'Do we know the reason for the season?' Jennifer V. Clark, is a Christian book writer, editor, and most importantly a dedicated Christian inspired by God who has decided to enlighten Christians worldwide and everyone who would come across this book on the subject of Christmas and its significance. It is a book that explicitly explains the subject matter and you will surely be blessed. It's time to understand beyond the Christmas celebration and tap into the realities of the blessings that came through the birth of Jesus Christ. He came with a long-lasting solution that will satisfy your heart yearnings - Salvation of your soul. Amidst our traditions and celebrations, the reason for the season has begun to lose its value as time passes by. For many, Christmas is a time to spend time with loved ones, friends, and family. For some, it is a time of giving and receiving many gifts. While for others, it is a time for home decoration with ornaments and lights. Why do we celebrate Christmas? Christmas celebration exceeds dining and wining alone, enjoying with loved ones, or placing Christmas trees in homes, it is a time we remember and appreciate the love of Christ to humanity. It is a time when we thank God for his amazing plan to redeem mankind. Jesus Christ is the reason for the season, He is the reason for Christmas! From John 3: 16, we have: 16. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. The love of God surpasses that of man in that He, through His infinite love and wisdom, thought it good to send Jesus to this world of sin, so that we might have eternal life! Christmas is a time we commemorate the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, through which we now have the joy of salvation. He came to this world to redeem mankind. We were, as it were, on our way to eternal destruction and damnation before Jesus came. However, through His sacrifices, we have the opportunity to be reconciled to God. He came for our redemption and we should be completely grateful to God for this wonderful day. This book: 'Christmas is all about Jesus' is recommended to everyone who wants to know the reason for Christmas, and appreciate God for the gift He has given us so we might have everlasting life. We will discuss the following: The creation of man The Fall of Man The plan of redemption Prophecies concerning the birth of Jesus Christ and their fulfillment, and The reason for the season - which is Jesus Christ. Each chapter is well structured with appropriate Bible verses to ease your understanding of the concept, help you have a better understanding of Christmas and you will appreciate God the more for His great plan to redeem the human race. As you read through every chapter of this book, may you derive the joy, and peace that came with the Birth of Jesus Christ, and may Christ Jesus come into your life. Amen. Happy Reading and Stay Blessed!
