Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Master of Fate is a debut novella that narrates the story of Remilekun, an orphan, whose desire to fulfil his late mother's dream of getting education takes him to the university. He finds true love at the university with a good girl from a different tribe. Their true love stands firm against all stiff oppositions. However, their true love is short-lived as the newlyweds find themselves in the den of a notorious kidnapping gang, known as the Czar Boys, led by Hitler. The story reaches a nervy moment when the accidental killing of Hitler in police custody reveals state security complicit, a calculated move by the police intended to prevent the dreaded outlaw from letting the cat out of the bag. The story reveals the perverse nature of humans from corruption to injustice, from greed to obsession, and from betrayal to murder. The craftily-plotted story reaches a twisty conclusion that leaves the reader, wondering whom to ever trust again.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most children love to hear stories, especially at bedtime. The favorite story of my two sons was told them by their father, over and over again, of which they never tired: HOW HE CAME OVER TO AMERICA FROM SCOTLAND ON A BIG BOAT. My purpose in writing this story now, of my voyage to Africa on a freighter, is that my grandchildren and great grandchildren might enjoy hearing of some of my experiences, which in the providence of God, have taken place in my life. Some statistics and a little information was acquired from the library before leaving for the various countries. This has been interwoven in my travelogue all of which was written on board ship.

Book When Life Was Egg Creams and Baseball Teams

Download or read book When Life Was Egg Creams and Baseball Teams written by Craig Howard and published by Craig Howard. This book was released on 2007-02 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Remember when life was so much simpler.... I loved to listen to stories of how my parents and grandparents grew up and what life was like in their times. I enjoyed this so much that I decided to tell the story of my childhood, a time when life was simpler and less pressured, when families were closer and spent more time together, when people were less materialistic, when kids could play outside alone and families could leave their doors open without concern. A time when neighbors took care of each other's kids without being asked or being paid and sports stars and movie stars plied their trade for love of what they did, not how much they got paid and when a boy's life revolved around "egg creams and baseball teams." I know that we can only keep the past alive in our memories, our hearts and in our stories but as we share these stories not only with each other but also with the youth of today, we have the hope that sharing these stories with those who will have the power to shape the future will convince them to keep some of the more positive elements of the past alive in their own ways. So sit back, kick your feet up, treat yourself to a big glass of ice cold milk with a freshly baked black and white cookie, a creamy charlotte rouge or a gooey chocolate clair and allow your mind to wander back to those "good old days" as you read my story.

Book Watching Grandma Circle the Drain

Download or read book Watching Grandma Circle the Drain written by Allen Smith and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2011-07-28 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his latest tour de force, Allen Smith takes on the challenges of life from his own gritty perspective. Everything from surviving on-line dating to enduring his first sigmoidoscopy and advancing age. Watching Grandma Circle the Drain is a collection of Smith's most entertaining work from his previously published columns. In addition to his own experience with struggling to learn Spanish and annihilating the game of golf, he gives the reader an inside look at some of the things they've never wondered about, like managing persistent telemarketers, what it's like to qualify as a sperm donor and some of the most unusual ways to make a living without a college degree. In part two, Smith takes aim at news stories by attacking issues like home schooling, women competing in the Tour de France, dozing air traffic controllers and the first person to marry (and divorce) himself. Watching Grandma Circle the Drain is a bite-sized, entertaining look at the way we complicate our lives. Once you read it, you'll never look at life the same way again.

Book Why I Never Had Kids

Download or read book Why I Never Had Kids written by Michael Matre and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2020-03-23 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After writing and publishing myriad newspaper and magazine articles beginning in my junior year of high school, as a journalism major at Bowling Green State University, and during my four-year career as a military writer in the United States Air Force, I wanted to write and publish a book. Beyond the many plays I have written, two of which have been produced by community theater groups, writing a book is the only writer's challenge I have yet to accomplish. Knowing that nonfiction is often the better choice for a first-time author regarding publication as opposed to fiction, I decided to write a memoir about my adventurous and mischievous childhood through my maturation as a fulfilled adult. The title Why I Never Had Kids struck me as being appropriate because it is the truth. Neither my wife, Fran, nor I ever wanted to deal with the childhood antics, some just downright dangerous, related in this book. I started making the notes two years ago and wrote the book in about two months after retiring from my corporate job in late 2018. Most of the incidents were fun and easy to write, but some were not. The pieces "Losing Pepper" and "The Wreck in West Virginia" resurrected painful memories but had to be included. This book is absolutely a work of nonfiction. The dialogue is as close to being exact as I can remember it. The incidents are correct. Everything you read here really happened. Reference is made to my mother's sometimes stinging sense of discipline, but she was in no way a child beater. She was a lovely, loving woman who made sure that my brother, sister, and I were properly fed, clothed, and grew up in a well-maintained home. She reveled in our successes and softened our failures, but Mom had rules. You didn't talk back, swear, sneak cigarettes, or drink Dad's beer. We all came out the better for that. Mom and Dad did things that I do not think I could have done as a parent, particularly the family vacations that took us hundreds of miles from home by car, with Dad doing the driving. I had a wonderful childhood, and the intent of this work is to deliver testimony to that and to entertain you as well.
