Book Politics as Social Text in India

Download or read book Politics as Social Text in India written by Jayabrata Sarkar and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2021-03-30 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the emergence of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) as an alternative political force in Uttar Pradesh. It focuses on the historical continuity of Dalit social justice movements and organizational politics from pre- to post-colonial India and its subsequent institutionalization as a political force with the rise of the BSP in the state since the 1980s. The volume discusses the new age Dalit–Bahujan politics and its ethnicization of caste groups to create a bahujan samaj. The book analyzes the focused political leadership of Kanshiram and Mayawati, the strong party organization, and how they evolved an empowered Dalit ideology and identity by grassroots mobilization and championing Dalit icons and history. The author also explores the party’s strategies, slogans and alliances with other political parties and communities and its political manoeuvrings to retain its influence over the electorate. The book also effectively identifies the reasons for the political marginalization of the BSP in present times in the context of the phenomenal rise of the BJP in the state. The book will be of great interest to researchers and scholars of political science, sociology, Dalit and subaltern studies, exclusion studies and those working on the intersectionality of caste and class. It will also be useful for policy makers, think tanks and NGOs working in the domain of caste, marginality, social exclusion and identity politics.

Book Dalits Through the Ages

Download or read book Dalits Through the Ages written by Er. Bharat Singh Tippal and published by K.K. Publications. This book was released on 2021-08-03 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dalits, the downtrodden sections of our society are a unique Indian entity that we do not find in any other country or nation in the world. The Dalits are a part and parcel of our social fabric and the nation can not really progress unless this vast section develops along with others. Dalits in India, as a social group, have their own identity. In fact, as a community, they are still to have been discovered and explored. This community deserves fair conduct from the nation, polity and society. The word, Dalit, as per Oxford Dictionary means, a member of the lowest caste, however, it is now used as a term for the Scheduled Castes in our country. Dalit is relatively a new term, while Scheduled Caste is a statutory term, used for those castes, which have been included in a particular schedule in our Constitution. The Government has special plans and schemes for the upliftment of the Dalits and various non-governmental voluntary organizations are also committed to serving them. But, it is a long journey and every sane and responsible citizen has to contribute his or her bit. This comprehensive, compact and authentic book is an asset for all social activists, anthropologists, other scholars, researchers and general readers. Table of Contents Preface v 1. Book Varshphal Annual Predication

Download or read book Varshphal Annual Predication written by S.P. Gour and published by All India Federation of Astrologers' Societies. This book was released on with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Parashari Jaimini and Tajik are the three most popular systems of Vedic Astrology. Parashar gives more importance to the planets while Jaimini considers the rashis to be more important. Tajik is mainly used in Prashna Shastra and in Varshaphal. Tajik diverts slightly always from the main stream of the traditional methods and employs newer techniques of Astrology. 'Tajik Neelakanthi', of Acharya Neelakantha, which was composed in the 16th century AD, is the base of Taik Jyotish. This does not mean that Varshaphal and Prashna techniques were not practised in vedic Astrology before this. 'Uttar Kalamrit' of Kalidas mentions and describes the computation of Varshaphal dasha which is different from the 'Mudda dasha' of Varshaphal. Apart from this, 'Shat Panchashikha' of Prithyushyas is the established classic of Prashna Shastra, which was composed centuries before 'Tajik Neelakanthi'. Ancient Kairaleeya Jyotish is also well known for considering Prashna to be their main technique. The influence of Greek and Arab culture is clearly seen on the word 'Tajik'. Arrival of the invaders from Western Asia initiated the exchange of culture between India and West Asia. This exchange introduced some newer techniques to our Vedic Astrology. One of these techniques was Tajik. This has been marked as the beginning of Tajik jyotish. Tajik word does not belong to Sanskrit. There are different opinions regarding this issue. Some scholars consider it to be a distorted from of the word 'Jatak'. Another view is that meaning of Tajik is a horse in Turkish and Persian language. The speed of this technique has been compared to that of a horse and for this reason it has been named Tajik. In any case the influence of Mohammedans on this knowledge is very clear. This is also confirmed by the other words of Tajik, namely mudda, muntha, sahams and the names of the Tajik yogas like Ithasal, Ikkabal, Ishraf, nakta, radda and khallasar etc. Moving at the average speed of 1° per day, Sun completes one round of the Zodiac in one year. For casting the annual horoscope we select the time when Sun reaches the longitude of the natal Sun. The horoscope cast for that date and time becomes the annual horoscope and the Varshaphal is decided on the basis of this horoscope. In a similar manner prediction for any year of the person's life can be given on the basis of the annual horoscope. In other words the annual horoscope is based on the longitude of the natal Sun and not on the date and time of birth. This also means that the date, day and time of the annual horoscope is generally different from that of the birth horoscope.
