Book A Comparison of Proposed Ventilation Requirements for Inboard Engine Recreational Boat Compartments

Download or read book A Comparison of Proposed Ventilation Requirements for Inboard Engine Recreational Boat Compartments written by J. R. Welker and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a final report of a study comparing theoretical ventilation effectiveness of proposed requirements for the ventilation of compartments in inboard recreational boats. Using ideal mixing assumptions, calculated performance of specifications based upon fuel spill quantity, varying according to fuel system design, was compared with calculated performance of specifications based upon compartment size. Under the assumptions of ideal mixing, a ventilation specification based upon compartment size provides a less variable level of ventilation effectiveness (more consistent reduction in flammable concentrations) over a range of compartment volumes than a specification based upon an assumed spill size. A test program verified that, for common compartment configurations, actual compartment ventilation is not inconsistent with the assumptions of ideal mixing. Therefore a specification based on compartment volume is preferable to one based upon assumed spill size.
