Book Multimodal Aspects of Statewide Transportation Planning

Download or read book Multimodal Aspects of Statewide Transportation Planning written by Henry L. Peyrebrune and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2000 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis report will be of interest to department of transportation ( DOT) administrators, planning supervisors, managers, and staffs, as well as to planning consultants that work with them. It provides information for practitioners interested in the results of attempts to apply multimodal considerations at the statewide level and identifies key research findings. It covers post-ISTEA (Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991) processes and projects and both passenger and freight activities. The report examines the application of three multimodal aspects: alternatives, modal mix, and integration into three statewide planning functions, which include state planning, corridor studies, and financing, budgeting, and programming. The emphasis is on implementation. This report of the Transportation Research Board documents processes and research currently under development, using three approaches: a literature review, results of a survey of state DOTs, and five case studies. It cites the following states with exemplary practices in multimodal/intermodal transportation based on a 1998 report by the policy research project at the University of Texas on Multimodal/ Intermodal Transportation: Florida, Minnesota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin.

Book Multimodal Freight Transportation Within the Great Lakes Saint Lawrence Basin

Download or read book Multimodal Freight Transportation Within the Great Lakes Saint Lawrence Basin written by Richard D. Stewart (Mariner) and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2012 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "TRB's National Cooperative Freight Research Program (NCFRP) Report 17: Multimodal Freight Transportation Within the Great Lakes--Saint Lawrence Basin describes the current multimodal freight transportation system within this bi-national region--Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Ontario, and Quebec--and its importance to regional, United States, and Canadian economies. The report also analyzes the system's overall performance and related opportunities and constraints to improving performance and to meet projected freight flows. The report includes an analysis of each mode's capacity and the major commodities each of them moves; the barriers and constraints that impact each mode's ability to move cargo; the performance implications in terms of major commodity supply chains (coal, automotive parts and machinery, containerized consumer goods, grains, and iron ore); and a strategic freight planning process for multimodal transport chain performance going forward."--Publisher's description.

Book Public Transport Planning

Download or read book Public Transport Planning written by B I Singal and published by Copal Publishing Group. This book was released on 2018-07-07 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Congestion, lack of mobility and rising air pollution in our cities are becoming areas of serious concern for all stakeholders: authorities, operators and commuters alike. It is also widely accepted that augmentation of public transport (PT) both in quality and quantity will provide relief. A critical issue in this context is the choice of a particular PT mode for a city. Comprehensive information on various modes, aspects of planning a city‐wide PT network and choice of mode is not easily available at one place to students, planners and city officials. This book is an attempt to bridge this gap. This book is based on author’s direct experience in planning, design and implementation of urban transport projects particularly public transport projects in India and abroad, in the overall context of urban mobility. The content of the book is largely at a conceptual level and brings out the finer points in planning. The book is divided into five parts, i.e. modes of public transport, planning a citywide public transport network, planning road‐based modes, planning rail transit and other planning issues.
