Download or read book Risking Leadership Training Timothy for today s church written by Steve Baney, M. Div. and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2014-12 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Leadership is no simple task. To lead in a godly way involves a considerable amount of risk. Paul understood this truth when the Holy Spirit inspired him to write his first letter to his disciple, Timothy. By studying Timothy's ministry (as recorded in Acts) and the instruction he received from Paul, we have much to learn about discipleship and ministry leadership. Risking Leadership is designed as a self-guided study and/or a group study, taking the reader step-by-step through the entire letter of 1 Timothy, with special emphasis given to application to today's life and ministry leadership. It begins with a brief biography of Timothy, based upon Acts and other biblical texts that describe him. This study is essential for effectiveness in the way you follow and serve Jesus Christ. "I have sent to you Timothy, my son whom I love, who is faithful in the Lord. He will remind you of my way of life in Christ Jesus, which agrees with what I teach everywhere in every church" (1 Corinthians 4:17 NIV).

Download or read book Refusing to Wait for Heaven written by Steve Baney, M. Div. and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2015-05-19 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do I have to wait for heaven to receive blessings from Jesus? What if my life needs blessings right now? What did Jesus mean when he said he makes all things new? What if I refuse to wait? This book will change your entire perspective on life, salvation, and heaven. We need newness. Find it through this study of God's Word. This is salvation. This is good news. This is what it means to be made all new. Too many religious leaders and church members have offered little more than new information. What people crave has much less to do with information and much more to do with transformation. What difference does it make? People who are frustrated with their life situation - hurt by wounds, and mourning loss - are craving something new. They're craving change, not information. The information about finding mercy in Jesus Christ is good news for me. But it's incomplete. I also want my life to be new. This is why I've decided that I'm Refusing to Wait for Heaven. Includes reflection questions.

Download or read book The Worship Pastor written by Zac M. Hicks and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2016-10-11 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern worship leaders are restless. They have inherited a model of leadership that equates leading worship with being a rock star. But leading worship is more than a performance, it's about shaping souls and making disciples. Every worship leader is really a pastor. The Worship Pastor is a practical and biblical introduction to this essential pastoral role. Filled with engaging, illustrative stories it is organized to address questions of theory and practice, striving to balance conversational accessibility with informed instruction. Part One presents a series of evocative "vignettes"--intriguing and descriptive titles and metaphors of who a Worship Pastor is and what he or she does. It shows the Worship Pastor as Church-Lover, Disciple Maker, Corporate Mystic, and Doxological Philosopher. Part Two covers specific roles related to ministry within the worship service itself--the Worship Pastor as Theological Dietician, Caregiver, Mortician, Emotional Shepherd, War General, Prophetic Guardian, Missional Historian, and Liturgical Architect. Part Three looks at ministry beyond the worship service--the Worship Pastor as Visionary Teacher, Evangelist, Artist Chaplain, and Team Leader. While some worship leaders are eager to embrace their pastoral role, many are lost and confused or lack the resources of time or money to figure out what this role looks like. Pastor Zac Hicks gives us a clear guide to leading worship, one that takes the pastoral call seriously.
Download or read book Doxology and Theology written by Paul Galbreath and published by Peter Lang Incorporated, International Academic Publishers. This book was released on 2008 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, which developed from an understanding of the dialectical relationship between theology and the church, provides information about the function and domain of language in the church through an analysis of its creedal statements. The study begins with an historical investigation of the crisis in linguistic interpretation in the church and theological community. Subsequently, a philosophical framework is presented through an investigation of particularly significant aspects of Ludwig Wittgenstein's later writings. Following a discussion of the alternative readings of Wittgenstein by theologians, examples are presented for ways in which we can apply Wittgenstein's linguistic approach to the interpretation of creeds. After distinguishing optional approaches to the creeds, the book presents an understanding of creedal statements in light of Wittgenstein. Reclaiming the functional nature of doxological language within its liturgical context provides a central connection between the language of the church and the actions of its members.

Download or read book Grand Entrance written by Edith M. Humphrey and published by Brazos Press. This book was released on 2011-04-01 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Can we understand worship in a way that transcends style, relevance, and aesthetics? Taking into account the most contested issues of the "worship wars," prominent New Testament scholar Edith Humphrey shows how the act of entering into God's presence is central to all true Christian worship. Regardless of worship style, when we come into God's presence, we praise God alongside angels and with the whole of creation. Seeking to reclaim the forgotten theme of worship as entry into God's presence, Humphrey shows its prominence in the Bible, providing an accessible but thorough study of the Old and New Testaments. She analyzes key moments in church history to show how worship developed in Eastern and Western churches. She also draws insights from healthy worshiping communities around the globe. The book offers practical guidance to worship directors, pastors, thoughtful lay readers, and students with regards to balanced and faithful worship.
