Acclaimed in America and Great Britain, Shakespeare for My Father weaves scenes from the Bard that delightfully coalesce with events in Ms. Redgrave's young life, eliciting memories of Sir Michael and engaging impressions of the celebrated stars who frequented the Redgrave's home and lives.

Book Shakespeare for My Father by Lynn Redgrave

Download or read book Shakespeare for My Father by Lynn Redgrave written by Meredith Cave and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shakespeare for My Father is a one-woman play written by Lynn Redgrrave about her life, the people she encounters, and her relationship with her father. She recounts stories of her childhood and early life and presents monologues, stories, and soliloquies from her family members and other actors and characters who impacted her life. She does this while weaving in scenes from Shakespeare's plays and sonnets that help her to express her feelings and eloquently connect with her father who shares her love for Shakespeare and the stage. I performed the first act of Shakespeare for My Father in the Ruth Pearce Wilson Lab Theatre on April 5, 6, and 7, 2013 as a fine arts honors thesis. I am a senior at Georgetown College, double majoring in Theater Performance Studies and Political Science. I could have composed a thesis in either subject, but I felt passionate about Theatre. I wanted to grow and challenge myself as an actor. Performing Shakespeare for My Father was truly the greatest feat thus far of my theatrical career. I learned more from this hands on experience than I did from any event in a classroom. I broadened my knowledge and experience in all elements of the theatre while learning more about myself as a person and a performer.

Book Autobiography in Shakespeare s Plays

Download or read book Autobiography in Shakespeare s Plays written by William Nicholas Knight and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2002 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shakespeare's authorship of his plays can no longer be in doubt with this book's clear identification of autobiographical passages throughout his work from his legal documents in Stratford and London courts. Shakespeare refers to the loss of his inheritance, by his father mortgaging it to his uncle, from early works such as Taming of the Shrew to the late Lear. His mother is referred to in As You Like It and Coriolanus; his twins in Comedy of Errors and Twelfth Night; and the loss of his son from Merchant of Venice to Macbeth. His daughters, as recipients of his accumulated wealth, are subjects of his concern from Lear to The Tempest. More important, the knowledge of the law in his personal pursuits is revealed as a source for the legal content in his works, which found fit audiences among jurists at the Inns of Court law schools and in King James' Court. Shakespeare pleased the king on these matters enough to have him command his plays to be repeated on an occasion. For himself, Shakespeare learned from his own writing how to deal with the language of law theoretically and conceptually with such concepts as equity and mercy in Chancery. He used his own family life, personal documents, and legal problems to give impetus to his version of borrowed characters, plots, plays, and history. These personal events, from the placement of the references, give his plays, which sometimes end with a fictionalized, wish-fulfillment, or literary compensation, an autobiographical initial compulsion.

Book Shakespeare s Sonnets

Download or read book Shakespeare s Sonnets written by Ch. Suryanarayana Rao and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2016-08-17 with total page 601 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shakespeare’s Sonnets: Philosophical Glimpses covers all 154 of Shakespeare’s sonnets with a sonnet-by-sonnet exposition and delves into the three riddles involving the handsome young man, the dark lady and the rival poet. The book unravels the spiritual dimension within these sonnets from the perspective of the author, an Indian scholar familiar with the literary traditions of his own country. The sonnets are interpreted as a genre of writing, namely, running devotional lyricism, which was never attempted before or after Shakespeare in England. A must-read for all who seek fresh insight into these sonnets, Shakespeare’s Sonnets: Philosophical Glimpses offers a study in self-improvement, in addition to expanding the literary understanding of this iconic author’s work.

Book My Father is a Book

Book excerpt: Bernard Malamud was one of the most accomplished American novelists of the postwar years. From the Pulitzer Prize winner The Fixer as well as The Assistant, named one of the best "100 All–Time Novels" by Time Magazine—to mention only two of the more than a dozen published books—he not only established himself in the first rank of American writers but also took the country's literature in new and important directions. In her signature memoir, Smith explores her renowned father's life and literary legacy. Malamud was among the most brilliant novelists of his era, and counted among his friends Philip Roth, Saul Bellow, Theodore Roethke, and Shirley Jackson. Yet Malamud was also very private. Only his family has had full access to his personal papers, including letters and journals that offer unique insight into the man and his work. In her candid, evocative, and loving memoir, his daughter brings Malamud to vivid life.
