Book Shaft Friction of CFA Piles in Chalk

Download or read book Shaft Friction of CFA Piles in Chalk written by J. A. Lord and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CIRIA and member firms of the Federation of Piling Specialists (FPS) collaborated in instituting this research, in order to: - obtain and analyse new CFA pile test results in chalk, - re-examine the pile test data available at the time PR11 was written, - review whether the published value of b is conservative, - explore the factors that affect it, - refine design recommendations. This book makes recommendations for the design of shaft resistance of CFA piles in low- and medium- density chalk. It is not appropriate to the design of piles constructed by any other method. The report contains the graphical plots and analyses of pile test data and reviews some design aspects of continuous flight augered piles in chalk. Contents: 1 Introduction, 2 Analysis of results, 3 Identification of chalk with a low unit shaft resistance, 4 Pile testing and factors of safety, 5 Conclusions and recommendations, References, Appendix 1 Examination of exposed shaft of CFA piles, Appendix 2 Site investigation methods appropriate for CFA piling in chalk, Appendix 3 CFA piles in chalk pile load test information check list.

Book Piling Engineering Third Edition

Download or read book Piling Engineering Third Edition written by Ken Fleming and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2008-09-25 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Piling is a fast moving field and recent years have seen major advances in theory, methods, testing procedures and equipment. Some of these changes have been driven by the need for economies and efficiency, reduced spoil production and new methods of pile bore support. Advances in theoretical analyses allow pile design to be refined so that piles and pile groups perform to better advantage. This third edition of the well established book has been comprehensively updated. It provides an accessible and well-illustrated account of design techniques, methods of testing and analysis of piles, with a marked emphasis on practice but with design methods that incorporate the most recent advances in piling theory. Piling Engineering is written for geotechnical engineers, consultants and foundation contractors. It is also a useful reference for academics and advanced students on courses in piling, practical site investigation and foundation design and construction.

Book Practical Guide to Geo Engineering

Download or read book Practical Guide to Geo Engineering written by Milutin Srbulov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-04-07 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handy reference manual puts a wealth of ready-to-use information, data, and practical procedures within immediate reach of geo-engineers and technicians, whether they be in the field or office. It assembles and organizes the most-needed set of equations, tables, graphs and check-lists on six major subfields of geo-engineering: investigations, testing, properties, hazards, structures and works. This practical reference for the professional and others interested in the subject of ground engineering skips lengthy definitions to highlight best practice and methods proven most effective. While reflecting codes and standards, it also fills the gaps with non-standard approaches when existing ones are skimpy on practical details or agreement. Enhanced by 146 illustrations and 83 tables, the Practical Guide to Geo-Engineering points users to supporting information and data through its extensive reference list. Audience: This book is of interest to everyone involved in practical geo-engineering.

Book Model Uncertainties in Foundation Design

Download or read book Model Uncertainties in Foundation Design written by Chong Tang and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-03-17 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Model Uncertainties in Foundation Design is unique in the compilation of the largest and the most diverse load test databases to date, covering many foundation types (shallow foundations, spudcans, driven piles, drilled shafts, rock sockets and helical piles) and a wide range of ground conditions (soil to soft rock). All databases with names prefixed by NUS are available upon request. This book presents a comprehensive evaluation of the model factor mean (bias) and coefficient of variation (COV) for ultimate and serviceability limit state based on these databases. These statistics can be used directly for AASHTO LRFD calibration. Besides load test databases, performance databases for other geo-structures and their model factor statistics are provided. Based on this extensive literature survey, a practical three-tier scheme for classifying the model uncertainty of geo-structures according to the model factor mean and COV is proposed. This empirically grounded scheme can underpin the calibration of resistance factors as a function of the degree of understanding – a concept already adopted in the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code and being considered for the new draft for Eurocode 7 Part 1 (EN 1997-1:202x). The helical pile research in Chapter 7 was recognised by the 2020 ASCE Norman Medal.

Book Structural Repair of Traditional Buildings

Download or read book Structural Repair of Traditional Buildings written by PEB Robson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-11-17 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book will be of interest to everyone involved in the repair, maintenance and refurbishment of traditional buildings. Its purpose is to promote the successful structural repair of masonry, timber and unfired earth. The book begins by explaining how traditional structures work and how they are affected by the behaviour of the soil that supports them. It goes on to explain how the structural design of buildings has to cope with uncertainty. Techniques for doing so are well established for new buildings, but the viewpoint changes when existing buildings need to be repaired or refurbished. The most common sources of structural damage are listed. The more serious and progressive ones are described in detail, as an aid to diagnosis and prognosis. An understanding of prognosis enables repairers to decide whether urgent intervention is necessary or whether the problem can be allowed to run its course. A straightforward method is proposed for arriving at the most suitable remedy. Several typical repairs are illustrated. The book covers many allied topics, including the principles of conservation, health and safety and preventative maintenance. A chapter is devoted to the special needs of insured perils.

Download or read book Engineering in Chalk written by J. A. Lord and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides guidance on engineering in chalk. It describes the chalk's geological setting, its origins, occurrence, its stratigraphy, weathering and geomorphological situations, the material and mechanical properties. The descriptions are supported by a comprehensive set of photographs. It explains recommended schemes for the engineering description and classification of chalk, building on the work presented in CIRIA PR11, 'Foundations in Chalk'. The publication looks at the mechanical and material properties of intact, in-situ and compacted chalk and considers their implications for the design and construction of earthworks, cuttings, retaining walls and anchorages. Major sections deal with the selection and design of shallow and piled foundations. Based on analysis of the results of pile testing, the book makes recommendations for the design and choice of bored, CFA, driven cast-in-place and pre-formed piles in chalk and for estimating shaft and base resistances. Contents:1 Introduction, 2 The engineering geology of chalk, 3 Description and classification of chalk, 4 Mechanical properties of the chalk, 5 Chalk in embankments and fills, 6 Cuttings, retaining structures and anchorages in chalk, 7 Shallow foundations, 8 Piled foundations, 9 Site investigations in chalk, 10 Concluding remarks, References.
