Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In bringing to the readers the book 5G Multimedia Communication: Technology, Multiservices and Deployment, the aim is to present current work and direction on the challenging subject of multimedia communications, with theoretical and practical roots. The past two decades have witnessed an extremely fast evolution of mobile cellular network technology. The fifth generation of mobile wireless systems has achieved the first milestone toward finalization and deployment by 2020. This is vital to the development of future multimedia communications. Also, it is necessary to consider 5G technology from the performance point of view by analyzing network capabilities to the operator and to the end user in terms of data rate, capacity, coverage, energy efficiency, connectivity and latency. The book is divided into three major parts with each part containing four to seven chapters: • Critical enabling technology • Multiservices network • Deployment scenarios The first part discusses enabling technologies, such as green communication, channel modeling, massive and distributed MIMO and ML-based networks. In the second part, different methodologies and standards for multiservices have been discussed. Exclusive chapters have been dedicated to each of the open research challenges such as multimedia operating in 5G environment, network slicing optimization, mobile edge computing, mobile video multicast/broadcast, integrated satellite and drone communication. The third part paved the way to deployment scenarios for different innovative services including integration of a multienergy system in smart cities, intelligent transportation systems, 5G connectivity in the transport sector, healthcare services, 5G edge-based video surveillance and challenges of connectivity for massive IoT in 5G and beyond systems. The book is written by experts in the field who introduced scientific and engineering concepts, covering the 5G multimedia communication areas. The book can be read cover-to-cover or selectively in the areas of interest for the readers. Generally, the book is intended for novel readers who could benefit from understanding general concepts, practitioners who seek guidance into the field and senior-level as well as graduate-level engineering students in understanding the process of today’s wireless multimedia communications.
Download or read book Processing of Visible Language written by Paul Kolers and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 531 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The organization of the page as a technological device and our acquisition of information from it were subjects of keen interest to psychologists and designers a century ago. Research on the topics proceeded briskly for more than a quarter of a century then, and was brought together in the still useful survey and analysis of them all that E. B. Huey published in 1908 as "The psychology and pedagogy of reading, with a review of the history of reading and writing and of methods, texts, and hygiene in reading. " Research on the psychological aspects of literacy tended to diminish after that peak, but research on design and on the technology of presenting infor mation has flourished apace meanwhile. Perhaps somewhat stimulated by the reissue of Huey's book by MIT Press in 1968, psychologists have returned to the study of literacy. The symposium that the present volume reports was an effort to bring together again psychologists interested in literacy and related forms of information acquisition, graphics designers, and engineers actively involved in the development and deployment of the newer technology. During this century, psychologists, graphics designers, and engineers have lost much of the mutual communication that their joint enterprise should encourage. The design of machines has often followed the convenience of packaging, the design of displays has often followed the designer's personal esthetic.
Download or read book Wireless Communications written by Asrar U.H. Sheikh and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-06-27 with total page 765 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wireless communication systems, since their inception in the form of cellular communications, have spread rapidly throughout the western world and the trend is catching on in the developing countries as well. These sys tems have caused revolutionary changes in the way we live. Cellular Commu nications have become important both as means of communication and as a new domain ofcommercial enterprise. Hand held telephones are now rapidly replacing the fixed telephone and in less than twenty years, the number of subscribers has reached nearly three quarters of a billion. In a short span of twenty years, the cellular communications progressed from the first genera tion to the third generation systems, which started operations in Japan on October 1,2001. The first generation wireless technology, which was thought to be obsolete is now being used for fixed wired telephony in several coun tries of Asia, Africa and Latin America. As some commentator said in 1983, the cellular system is the best thing that has happened in telecommunications since the introduction ofcomputers to the masses. This book is written to provide readers with the fundamental concepts ofwireless communications. It is intended for a graduate course on wireless communications but it could be easily adopted at the senior level by skipping material involving difficult mathematical manipulations. The text does not go through the rigorous material on mathematical treatment of electromagnetic waves and propagation, rather it emphasizes more on the practical aspects of this.

Download or read book Ion Induced Electron Emission from Crystalline Solids written by Hiroshi Kudo and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-07-01 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph deals with ion induced electron emission from crystalline solids bombarded by fast ions. During the past decade, electron spectroscopy combined with the ion channeling technique has revealed various "messages" about ion solid and electron solid interactions carried by the emitted elec trons. While the ion induced electrons produced by binary encounter pro cesses are of primary interest in this book, closely related topics such as the emission of ion induced Auger electrons from crystal targets are also reviewed, with emphasis on their interdisciplinary aspects, for example, their relation to photoelectron diffraction. In addition to these topics, the book describes the underlying physics and experimental techniques so that it should provide useful information for students and scientists working in ion beam based re search and development in various areas of atomic and solid state physics, materials science, surface science, etc. I am much indebted to the gererations of students who have passed through my laboratory, since they have stimulated me with elementary but essential questions in various phases of the studies. I am also grateful to T. Azuma, Y. Kido, K. Kimura, H. Naramoto, and S. Seki for critical reading of the manuscript. Download or read book The Psychology of Reading written by Keith Rayner and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-14 with total page 544 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last 20 years have witnessed a revolution in reading research. Cognitive psychologists, using high-speed computers to aid in the collection and analysis of data, have developed tools that have begun to answer questions that were previously thought unanswerable. These tools allow for a "chronometric," or moment-to-moment, analysis of the reading process. Foremost among them is the use of the record of eye movements to help reveal the underlying perceptual and cognitive processes of reading. This volume provides a coherent framework for the research accomplished on the reading process over the past 15 years. It emphasizes how readers go about extracting information from the printed page and how they comprehend the text.
