Book Sexual Problems of Today

Download or read book Sexual Problems of Today written by William J. Robinson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-02 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Sexual Problems of Today I publish this volume because I believe the world, the Anglo-Saxon world in particular, is in need of it. Only the crudest intellect and the most perverted "morality" will see anything obscene or improper in this book. The thinking and truly cultured man and woman know that there can be nothing improper in discussing problems of the deepest vital importance to the individual and the race, that there is nothing obscene in the scientific treatment of questions which deal with the prevention of disease, misery and death. Everything that contributes to the joy, happiness, physical health and mental and spiritual efficiency of the individual is pure and moral. The justification for the existence of this book will be found in its pages - on every page. Preface To The Second Edition It was my intention to incorporate some new matter in this edition. But the information that a new edition was needed, and at once too, came so much sooner than I expected - it is barely eight months since the first edition made its appearance - and, what with my practice and writing two other books, I am so busy just at present, that I am obliged to send out this edition a mere facsimile of the first. But apparently even as it is, Sexual Problems of To-day is a useful and necessary book. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Sexual Conduct

  • Author : William Simon
  • Publisher : Routledge
  • Release : 2017-07-05
  • ISBN : 1351491172
  • Pages : 377 pages

Download or read book Sexual Conduct written by William Simon and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-05 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first edition of Sexual Conduct, published in 1973, swiftly became a landmark text in the sociology of sexuality. It went on to profoundly shape the ideas of several generations of scholars and has become the foundation text of what is now known as the "social constructionist" approach to sexuality. The present edition, revised, updated, and containing new introductory and concluding materials, introduces a classic text to a new generation of students and professionals.Traditional views of human sexuality posit models of man and woman in which biological arrangements are translated into sociocultural imperatives. This is best summarized in the phrase "anatomy is destiny." Consequently, the almost exclusive concern has been with the power of biology and nature in sexual conduct as opposed to understanding the significance and impact of social life. In Sexual Conduct, Gagnon and Simon lucidly argue that sexual activities, of all kinds, may be understood as the outcome of a complex psychosocial process of development. Using the social script theory, the authors trace the ways in which sexuality is learned and fitted into particular moments in the lifecycle and in different modes of behavior.Sexual Conduct is a major attempt to consider sexuality within a non-biological, social psychological framework. It is a valuable addition to the study of human sexuality, and will be of interest to students of sociology, psychology, psychiatry, social work, and medicine.

Sexual dysfunctions present in all cultures and ethnicities around the world. Sexual problems have an especially high prevalence among patients with psychiatric syndromes -- yet, in recent years, the field of psychiatry has shifted away from the treatment of sexual disorders. Clinical Manual of Sexual Disorders is the first comprehensive text in decades to address the management and treatment of sexual dysfunctions and disorders. Using a conceptual model that incorporates biological, psychological, and cultural interventions as its guiding principle, the book explores and evaluates the epidemiology of sexual disorders and paraphilias, sexual dysfunctions with comorbid psychiatric disorders, sexual problems associated with various medications, and sexual disorders in specific patient populations. Written by 25 contributing clinical specialists from around the world, the text combines conceptual shifts within the field of human sexuality with the latest research findings into a practical three-part volume. The first four chapters cover general areas relevant to the clinical understanding of human sexuality and sexual dysfunctions within the frame of psychiatry. The second part of the book outlines the major sexual dysfunctions, including male erectile disorder, female arousal disorder, premature ejaculation, and paraphilias. And the final chapters address the management of sexual issues in two unique patient populations that are often neglected in other textbooks -- children and adolescents and older adults. The book includes several unique features to further enhance learner retention Tables, charts, figures, and illustrations to enhance the reading material Evaluations, questionnaires and other patient materials Take-away points on key clinical issues at the end of each chapter Case examples from the authors' own practices References for further reading Restoration of sexual function can improve the quality of life for many individuals with and without psychiatric disorders, making recognition and treatment of sexual problems of utmost importance to any general psychiatric practice.
