Book Unleashing Your Own Potential

Download or read book Unleashing Your Own Potential written by Robert W Henry and published by Aviva Publishing. This book was released on 2023-12-20 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Unleashing Your Own Potential, Robert Henry, a former bank robber, teaches us to look closely at the decisions we make and make better ones. He knows from experience how important it is to make the right kinds of decisions because they can determine our destiny. His successful career in real estate and the personal happiness he’s found are testaments to the fact that the right decisions can open doors to achieving your full potential. Do you feel there is greatness inside you, but you don’t know how to unleash it? Unleashing Your Own Potential: The Self-Leadership Journey from Rock Bottom to Prosperity is a page-turner that is part memoir, part personal development, written by a man who transformed himself from living a life of crime to one of prosperity and giving back. Henry’s story is like none you’ve ever read before. After a difficult upbringing that Henry shares, he seemed to turn things around by going into sales and prospering in his career. In fact, he was doing so well that he and some of his colleagues decided to go into business for themselves. That’s when everything started to fall apart. The company Henry worked for, learning their employees might soon become their competitors, brought unjust criminal accusations against them, making Henry’s life very difficult. After being found guilty of crimes that were not really crimes at all, his life became complicated when he was assigned to a corrupt probation officer. This probation officer did everything imaginable to keep Henry from getting back on his feet until Henry became determined to get out from under the probation officer’s power. The result—Henry decided to pay off his court fines as quickly as possible, and he did that through a series of bank robberies. Without giving away everything that happened to Henry, the end result was he was caught and went to prison. While Henry’s life to that point might seem somewhat sensational to readers, what happened next is remarkable. Henry determined that this time, he would take control of his life by making better decisions. With Unleashing Your Own Potential, Henry has turned his story into a teaching tool. Each chapter begins with a segment of his personal story, followed by a discussion of how that story applies to important lessons we all need to learn. One of the biggest of those lessons is how to make better decisions. Henry states, “To make better decisions, we must train ourselves to engage our rational system more often. That means slowing down and being more intentional about our choices. By evaluating our options and considering our decisions’ potential consequences, we can make more informed choices that are more likely to lead to our desired outcomes.” Henry had failed to make an informed choice when he became a bank robber, but he has made such choices ever since. The result has been a life of prosperity in real estate and coaching others on how to succeed in business and life. Henry does not lecture the reader but offers simple but effective techniques we can use to apply the lessons learned to our lives. For example, in making decisions about your future, he recommends using the 10/10/10 rule. This technique involves considering how you will feel about your decision in ten minutes, ten months, and ten years. By thinking about the future, we put the decision in a better perspective and then can make a better decision. Henry uses powerful and inspirational quotes throughout the book: “It’s not what happens to you that determines how far you will go in life; it is how you handle what happens to you,” from Zig Ziglar. Henry did not handle well some of the adversity he faced, but going to prison changed his ability to make better decisions about how to handle difficult situations. He states, “The key to achieving optimal decision-making lies in self-awareness, critical thinking, and emotional intelligence.” He discusses all three of these decision-making influences in detail. Ultimately, everything in life revolves around the decisions we make and how we decide to handle situations. Henry discusses how to avoid negative thought patterns so we aren’t trapped by them. He encourages us to reach out to others to build a support network. He recommends developing a clear sense of purpose so that we don’t lose sight of our goals when adversity strikes. He helps us learn how to overcome fear and refuse to be a victim of circumstances by realizing what part of our circumstances we can control. Henry knows from personal experience that learning these lessons and making these changes is not easy. He states: “It was a challenging process. I had to confront some hard truths about myself and my past. But I knew it was the only way to move forward and create something positive from this experience.” He discusses how he used his time in prison as an opportunity to grow and change, to read more than 700 books on personal growth and development, and to begin the journey that ultimately led him from prison to prosperity by taking 100 percent responsibility for his life. The results Henry achieved are beyond impressive. Best of all, the road to those results is practical. No matter your adversities, Henry offers advice to help you discover and unleash your potential.

Book High School Mathematics at Work

Download or read book High School Mathematics at Work written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1998-06-27 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Traditionally, vocational mathematics and precollege mathematics have been separate in schools. But the technological world in which today's students will work and live calls for increasing connection between mathematics and its applications. Workplace-based mathematics may be good mathematics for everyone. High School Mathematics at Work illuminates the interplay between technical and academic mathematics. This collection of thought-provoking essaysâ€"by mathematicians, educators, and other expertsâ€"is enhanced with illustrative tasks from workplace and everyday contexts that suggest ways to strengthen high school mathematical education. This important book addresses how to make mathematical education of all students meaningfulâ€"how to meet the practical needs of students entering the work force after high school as well as the needs of students going on to postsecondary education. The short readable essays frame basic issues, provide background, and suggest alternatives to the traditional separation between technical and academic mathematics. They are accompanied by intriguing multipart problems that illustrate how deep mathematics functions in everyday settingsâ€"from analysis of ambulance response times to energy utilization, from buying a used car to "rounding off" to simplify problems. The book addresses the role of standards in mathematics education, discussing issues such as finding common ground between science and mathematics education standards, improving the articulation from school to work, and comparing SAT results across settings. Experts discuss how to develop curricula so that students learn to solve problems they are likely to encounter in lifeâ€"while also providing them with approaches to unfamiliar problems. The book also addresses how teachers can help prepare students for postsecondary education. For teacher education the book explores the changing nature of pedagogy and new approaches to teacher development. What kind of teaching will allow mathematics to be a guide rather than a gatekeeper to many career paths? Essays discuss pedagogical implication in problem-centered teaching, the role of complex mathematical tasks in teacher education, and the idea of making open-ended tasksâ€"and the student work they elicitâ€"central to professional discourse. High School Mathematics at Work presents thoughtful views from experts. It identifies rich possibilities for teaching mathematics and preparing students for the technological challenges of the future. This book will inform and inspire teachers, teacher educators, curriculum developers, and others involved in improving mathematics education and the capabilities of tomorrow's work force.

Book The Making of Modern Finance

Download or read book The Making of Modern Finance written by Samuel Knafo and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-07-03 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Making of Modern Finance is a path-breaking study of the construction of liberal financial governance and demonstrates how complex forms of control by the state profoundly transformed the nature of modern finance. Challenging dominant theoretical conceptions of liberal financial governance in international political economy, this book argues that liberal economic governance is too often perceived as a passive form of governance. It situates the gold standard in relation to practices of monetary governance which preceded it, tracing the evolution of monetary governance from the late middle Ages to show how the 19th century gold standard transformed the way states relate to finance. More specifically, Knafo demonstrates that the institutions of the gold standard helped to put in place instruments of modern monetary policy that are usually associated with central banking and argues that the gold standard was a prelude to Keynesian policies rather than its antithesis. The author reveals that these state interventions played a vital role in the rise of modern financial techniques which emerged in the late 18th and 19th century and served as the foundation for contemporary financial systems. This book will be of strong interest to students and scholars of international political economy, economic history and historical sociology. It will appeal to those interested in monetary and financial history, the modern state, liberal governance, and varieties of capitalism.

Book Journalists and Knowledge Practices

Download or read book Journalists and Knowledge Practices written by Hansjakob Ziemer and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-11-11 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This multi-disciplinary anthology provides new perspectives on the journalist’s role in knowledge generation in the newspaper age—covering diverse topics from fake news to new technologies. Fake news, journalistic authority, and the introduction of cutting-edge technologies are often viewed as new topics in journalism. However, these issues were prevalent long before the twenty-first century. Connecting for the first time two burgeoning strands of research—a newly perceived history of knowledge and the study of journalism—Journalists and Knowledge Practices provides insights into the journalist’s role in the world of knowledge in the newspaper age (ca. 1860s to 1970s). This multi-disciplinary anthology asks how journalists conducted their work and reconstructs histories of journalistic practices in specific regional constellations in Europe and North America. From fake news writing to inventing psychological concepts, integrating electric telegrams to fabricating photographs, explaining pandemics to creating communities, these case studies written by distinguished scholars from various disciplines in the humanities show how notions of fact and truth were shaped, new technologies integrated, and knowledge transfers arranged. This book is crucial reading for scholars and students interested in the historically changing relationships between journalistic practices and the generation and dissemination of knowledge. This volume is crucial reading for scholars and students interested in the history of journalistic practice.
