Download or read book Prestressed Concrete written by Charles W. Dolan and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-11-14 with total page 467 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook imparts a firm understanding of the behavior of prestressed concrete and how it relates to design based on the 2014 ACI Building Code. It presents the fundamental behavior of prestressed concrete and then adapts this to the design of structures. The book focuses on prestressed concrete members including slabs, beams, and axially loaded members and provides computational examples to support current design practice along with practical information related to details and construction with prestressed concrete. It illustrates concepts and calculations with Mathcad and EXCEL worksheets. Written with both lucid instructional presentation as well as comprehensive, rigorous detail, the book is ideal for both students in graduate-level courses as well as practicing engineers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Serviceability failures of concrete structures involving excessive cracking or deflection are relatively common, even in structures that comply with code requirements. This is often as a result of a failure to adequately account for the time-dependent deformations of concrete in the design of the structure. The serviceability provisions embodied in

Download or read book Partial Prestressing From Theory to Practice written by M.Z. Cohn and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These volumes contain the edited documents presented at the NATO-Sponsored Advanced Research Workshop (ARW) on Partial Pre8tre88ing, from Theory to Practice, held at the CEBTP Research Centre of Saint-Remy-Ies-Chevreuse, France, June 18-22, 1984. The workshop was a direct extension of the International Symposium on Nonlinearity and Continuity in Pre8tre88ed Concrete, organized by the editor at the University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Canada, July 4-6, 1983. The organization of the NATO-ARW on Partial Prestressing was prompted by the need to explain and reduce the wide dirrerences of expert oph:iipn· on the subject, which make more difficult the accep tance of partial prestressing by the profession at large. Specifically, the workshop attempted to: - produce a more unified picture of partial presetressing, by con fronting and, where possible, reconciling some conflicting American and European views on this subject; - bring theoretical advances on partial prestressing within the grasp of engineering practice; - provide the required background for developing some guidelines on the use of partial prestressing, in agreement with existing structural concrete standards. The five themes selected for the workshop agenda were: (1) Problems of Partially Prestressed Concrete (PPC). (2) Partially Prestressed Concrete Members: Static Loading. (3) PPC Members: Repeated and Dynamic Loadings. (4) Continuity in Partially Prestressed Concrete. (5) Practice of Partial Prestressing.

Download or read book Introduction to Strain Based Structural Health Monitoring of Civil Structures written by Branko Glisic and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2024-08-12 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive introduction to strain-based structural health monitoring of civil structures, with focus on measurement and data analysis Introduction to Strain-Based Structural Health Monitoring of Civil Structures focuses on the SHM of civil structures and infrastructure, and develops the relevant topics of measurement and data analysis from a fundamental to advanced level. The book contains an overview of the available and emerging strain monitoring technologies like traditional strain-gauges and vibrating wire sensors, discrete and distributed fiber optic sensors, and large area electronics. The fundamentals of error analysis, as well as typical sources of errors in measurements, are discussed. Sources of strain in typical construction materials such concrete, steel, timber, and composite materials are also discussed, while both basic and advanced data interpretation and analysis for monitoring of concrete and steel structures are presented in detail. Methods applicable to a large spectrum of beam-like structural elements and civil structures, such as bridges, buildings, and pipelines, are summarized. These methods are developed at three scales: local scale (material or structural), global (structural) scale, and integrity scale, and are illustrated with practical examples. Key features: Defines and describes SHM and identifies its main components and stakeholders. Explores the potential and benefits as well as the limitations of SHM. Introduces strain-based structural health monitoring of civil structures, with focus on measurement and data analysis. Covers the physical principles, advantages, and limitations of various types of sensors. Covers fundamental error analysis and presents typical sources of errors. Covers the sources of short- and long-term strain, and how to interpret the strain measurement. Includes basic and advanced model-based methods for data analysis. Contains the basic strain-based SHM methods for monitoring various types of structures at local, global, and integrity scale. Suitable as a guide for practicing engineers, a reference for infrastructure owners, and a textbook for researchers and SHM university courses. A valuable companion to Glisic & Inaudi’s Fibre Optic Methods for Structural Health Monitoring. Introduction to Strain-Based Structural Health Monitoring of Civil Structures is essential, state-of-the-art reading for civil and structural engineers and professionals in SHM, as well as teachers, researchers, and students in civil engineering.

Download or read book Modern Prestressed Concrete written by James R. Libby and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 1990-11-30 with total page 902 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was written with a dual purpose, as a reference book for practicing engineers and as a textbook for students of prestressed concrete. It represents the fifth generation of books on this subject written by its author. Significant additions and revisions have been made in this edition. Chapters 2 and 3 contain new material intended to assist the engineer in understanding factors affecting the time-dependent properties of the reinforcement and concrete used in prestressing concrete, as well as to facilitate the evaluation of their effects on prestress loss and deflection. Flexural strength, shear strength, and bond of prestressed concrete members were treated in a single chapter in the of flexural strength has third edition. Now, in the fourth edition, the treatment been expanded, with more emphasis on strain compatibility, and placed in Chapter 5 which is devoted to this subject alone. Chapter 6 of this edition, on flexural-shear strength, torsional strength, and bond of prestressed reinforce ment, was expanded to include discussions of Compression Field Theory and torsion that were not treated in the earlier editions. In similar fashion, expanded discussions of loss of prestress, deflection, and partial prestressing now are presented separately, in Chapter 7. Minor additions and revisions have been made to the material contained in the remaining chapters with the exception of xv xvi I PREFACE Chapter 17. This chapter, which is devoted to construction considerations, has important new material on constructibility and tolerances as related to prestressed concrete.
