Book excerpt: This book is, quite simply, remarkable journalism, and remarkable writing. --Robert B. Parker An infamous murder spree. A monstrous hoax. The definitive book--updated with new evidence. "DeSalvo Is the Strangler!" declared the headlines after handyman Albert DeSalvo confessed to eleven brutal rape/murders that terrorized Boston from 1962 to 1964. The repeat sex offender boasted he had raped an additional 2,000 women. His story became the subject of a bestselling book and major Hollywood movie. But DeSalvo was not The Boston Strangler. Author Susan Kelly's detailed investigation shows us the true DeSalvo--a pathological liar whose hunger for celebrity drove him to false confessions--and indicates that the stranglings were committed by more than one killer. In an eye-opening update that explores stunning DNA findings, a shocking re-autopsy, and expert profiling evidence, she shows why this savage, unsolved case continues to fascinate and haunt us. With 16 Pages Of Powerful Photos "Taut with suspense. . .crackles like a bestselling novel." --Barry Reed, author of The Verdict "Prodigious research." --Publishers Weekly

Book excerpt: The New York Times–bestselling account of the serial killer’s rampage and the ensuing manhunt. Now a Hulu true crime thriller starring Keira Knightley. On June 14, 1962, twenty-five-year-old Juris Slesers arrived at his mother’s apartment to drive her to church. But there was no answer at the door. When he pushed his way inside, Juris found Anna Slesers dead on the kitchen floor, the cord of her housecoat knotted tightly around her neck. Over the next two years, twelve more bodies were discovered in and around Boston: all women, all sexually assaulted, and all strangled. None of the victims exhibited any signs of struggle, nothing was stolen from their homes, and there were no signs of forcible entry. The police could find no discernable motive or clues. Who was this madman? How was he entering women’s homes? And what insanity was driving him? Drawn from hundreds of hours of personal interviews, as well as police, medical, and court documentation, this is a grisly, horrifying, and meticulously researched account of Albert DeSalvo—an American serial killer on par with Jack the Ripper.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: AN ANTHOLOGY OF TRUE CRIME LOOKING BACK AT SERIAL KILLERS WHO USED STRANGULATION AS THEIR M.O. STRANGLER JOHN John Reginald Christie was a prolific serial killer active in England during the 1940s and 1950s. He murdered at least six women including his wife-and some believe this number is higher, as well as a baby-before being arrested, convicted, and hanged. He lured women to his flat under the guise of assisting them with some medical procedure such as abortion and strangled and raped them; oftentimes while they were unconscious or dead, thus giving rise to allegations that he was a necrophiliac. Christie also likely framed his neighbor Timothy Evans for the death of Evans' wife and infant daughter for which Evans was convicted and hanged. GIRL STRANGLER Most female serial killers use poison or a gun to dispose of their victims. Dana Sue Gray was one of the few who was a "hands on" killer, strangling numerous elderly women in the Southern California area in the early 1990s. But what led her to go on this murderous rampage that one police detective described as "the most brutal crimes I've ever seen"? Dana was a compulsive "shopping addict" who would steal her victims credit cards and speed off to the nearest shopping mall to indulge in her habit. A lifelong thrill-seeker and horror movie fan, Dana would succumb to her base impulses and become arguably the most violent female serial killer in modern times. HILLSIDE STRANGLERS Cousins Kenneth Bianchi and Angelo Buono, Jr. are collectively known by their media epithet "The Hillside Strangler." These two men were responsible for the murders of at least nine females, ages 12 to 28, during the late 1970s in Los Angeles, California, and Bianchi killed two more in Washington. After their first three victims did not gain much attention because they were prostitutes, Bianchi and Buono decided to abduct and murder middle-class "nice" girls. Five victims were found on hillsides in the Glendale-Highland Park area during Thanksgiving weekend in 1977 and the resulting panic led to the coining of the moniker "Hillside Strangler." SUFFOLK STRANGLER Steven Gerald James Wright was considered to be an ordinary, everyday English barman. Friends and family thought that his gambling addiction and his relationship issues were the brunt of his problems, but little did they know that was only scratching the surface of his nasty habits. He followed into the footsteps of the British serial killers that had come before him, like the legendary "Jack the Ripper," by primarily preying on the prostitutes of the red light district. BOSTON STRANGLER Albert DeSalvo, the infamous "Boston Strangler" is considered to be "America's first 'serial killer' of the modern era." He is responsible for as many as 13 women's murders in the Boston area between 14 June 1962 and 4 January 1964. Victims were as young as 19 and as old as 85. Whereas police did not believe that all of the murders were committed by the same person, the public was convinced that one person, dubbed "The Boston Strangler," was the sole suspect. ROADSIDE STRANGLER When one envisions a serial killer, they think of a cold, calculating, heartless monster. As humans, some of us have developed ways to recognize other humans that are looking to cause us harm. If we look at a mug shot of famous another serial killer, like Charles Manson or Jeffery Dahmer, one could say that these men "look" like serial killers. Maybe it's because of their wild eyes, the way that they hold themselves, or the "creepy" feeling one receives from their presence. These factors are enough to make a person stay as far away from the killer as possible, but sadly, not all predators come with a warning sign. Michael Bruce Ross, later to be known as the Roadside Strangler, was a ruthless predator that slipped under the radars of the multiple women that he attacked, raped, and murdered.

Book Introduction to Boston Strangler

Download or read book Introduction to Boston Strangler written by Gilad James, PhD and published by Gilad James Mystery School. This book was released on with total page 65 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Boston Strangler was a notorious serial killer who terrorized Boston, Massachusetts, in the early 1960s. The killer was responsible for the deaths of at least 13 women between June 1962 and January 1964, and possibly more. The victims ranged in age from 19 to 85, and all were strangled with articles of their own clothing. The killer also sexually assaulted some of his victims. The media coverage of the killings and the investigation into the perpetrator became a cultural phenomenon at the time. The case inspired numerous books, movies, and television shows, and it remains one of the most infamous and mysterious murder cases in American history. The identity of the Boston Strangler was the subject of much speculation and investigation for years after the killings. Several men were considered to be suspects, but it was ultimately Albert DeSalvo who confessed to the murders in 1965. DeSalvo was a handyman in the Boston area who had a history of sexual assaults and other crimes. He claimed that he had committed the murders during a series of burglaries, but his confession was later disputed by some experts who argued that he may not have been the true killer. The mystery of the Boston Strangler continues to captivate true crime enthusiasts and historians alike, and the case remains one of the most intriguing and disturbing murder mysteries of the 20th century.

Sample Book Insights: #1 The body of the girl was found in a flowerbed near the northern hills. She had been strangled, and her neck was surrounded by a line of dark, purplish bruises. She was small and thin, and she could not have lived more than fifteen or sixteen years. #2 Salerno believed that the girl had been dumped there deliberately, not tossed or dropped. He thought that two men had carried her from a car. The ice plant next to the curb had been pushed out of place, and the dirt beneath it had been freshly disturbed. #3 Salerno went to talk to the Koehns, who had not heard anything during the night. They told him that they slept like logs. He then went to interview everyone on Alta Terrace. It was a peaceful street. #4 Angelo Buono, the killer, was wiry and had Sicilian coloring. He was kind to animals and had a way with the ladies. He was bored that evening, so he went through the house checking for dust.

Download or read book Kenneth Bianchi Angelo Buono Jr written by Ashley Brammer and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2021-05-24 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Hillside Strangler, later the Hillside Stranglers, is the media epithet for one, later two, American serial killers who terrorized Los Angeles between October 1977 and February 1978, with the nicknames originating from the fact that many of the victims' bodies were discovered in the hills surrounding greater Los Angeles. It was initially believed that only one person was responsible for the killings. The police, however, knew from the positions of the bodies that two criminals were working together, but withheld this information from the press. These two were eventually discovered to be the cousins Kenneth Bianchi and Angelo Buono Jr., who was later convicted of kidnapping, raping, torturing, and murdering 10 women and girls ranging in age from 12 to 28 years old. This book documents the shocking story of an abusive childhood that created a monster, and the suspect's possible involvement in a separate string of killings of teenagers in Rochester, New York. Did these men truly have multiple personalities, or was he a cunning sociopath enacting a daring hoax against the criminal justice system? By the end, you make up your own mind.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Los Angeles, the heartbeat, where sounds of lust and shopping swallow up catcalls, shameless bragging, screams of terror and delight, and from passing LAPD prowl cars darting down the San Diego Freeway comes the sad and lonesome wail of sirens--police sirens--the song of the city. The city streets are a carnival, it is burlesque. The city moves like an insect. It scurries. Neon beats against the window like a probe, even in the day. And somewhere, buried deep within this crazy world, are two killers who call this place home. Their hunting ground. Their dumping ground. One of them, a man whose birth given name was Kenneth Bianchi but whom his friends know as Ken, waits in the shadows sipping beer and smoking a cigarette and watching the show with delightful glee. These women - whether it be a Valley Girl or a lowly prostitute - all seem to remind him of his mother. His mother had been a prostitute who'd given him up as a child. When he first grew up and can remember, he was dressed as a girl by his mother, and he stayed that way for two or three years. And after that he was treated like what he would call the dog of the family. But that was long ago and far away; that was then and this is now. Tonight, his senses are accelerated and he can hear the pain and the sin on every street corner. It's like they were calling to him, for him and his cousin Angelo to end their pain and suffering once and for all. The world around him continues to live and breathe, and as he watches sinners kiss, as he watches them gambol and dance, he is reminded of why he's really here. DUMPING GROUND is an unflinching glimpse into the trail of their victims - from the victims point of view as well - and the aftermath that so aptly named them The Hillside Stranglers.

Book excerpt: The story of a musical prodigy turned serial killer—including his shocking confession—is exposed in the L.A. Times bestselling author’s true crime classic. To the outside world, Anthony Allen Shore was an average guy: a twice-divorced father who drove a tow truck in suburban Houston. But in his mind he was a superstar. A musical prodigy who never realized his potential, Shore decided to outsmart society by getting away with murder. And he wanted the whole world to know it. After brutally killing a sixteen-year-old girl, he told the local NBC affiliate precisely where to find her body. Eight years passed before DNA evidence caught up with Shore. Subsequent police investigations revealed a violent megalomaniac who had sexually abused his own daughters. He confessed to murdering four females, one only nine years old. And he hinted at many more—leading authorities to suspect he might be the notorious “I-45 Serial Killer.” In Strangler, bestselling author Corey Mitchell recounts the case from its twisted beginnings to its chilling conclusion.

Book excerpt: If you like first person accounts of true crime stories, you will love this book. I invite the reader to follow me through my investigation of the Leslie Barry murder; the trial of Art Anzures for the murder; the evidence that led me to my 3 suspects; how my investigation of the Barry murder led me to the defense of Angelo Buono in the Hillside Strangler case; and what happened in my personal life as a result of my attempts to expose the systematic cover-up in California V. Angelo Buono. The single most important clue in the case came from the statement of a 14 year old boy on the night of the Barry murder. I wasn't at the crime scene that night, but would read the statement in police reports a week and a half later. When I read it, I was astonished that the police seemed to be showing no interest in this remarkable 16 word statement from a friend of the victim. The cops ignoring evidence that could help crack a case that had baffled them for 18 months, caused me to wonder if they were so stupid they couldn't connect these two simple dots or if something more sinister was going on. A dozen books or more have been written about the Hillside Strangler case, and taking a cue from the books, screenwriters have used the case in movies and TV cop shows to lend an air of credibility to their fictitious story lines. The Irony hasn't escaped me that these writers are using a fiction to give credibility to a fiction. However, these movies and cop shows have kept the myth that Kenneth Bianchi and Angelo Buono were the Hillside Stranglers alive. I've heard rumors that in recent years the LAPD destroyed all the evidence from their Hillside Strangler investigation. If these rumors are true, you can bet the farm that it wasn't done to save space, but to protect the guilty. I've reduce that statement by the 14 year old boy to 4 words and made it the title of this book. A Crossing of Paths is the true story of the Hillside Strangler case.
