Download or read book Modern Methods for the Separation of Rarer Metal Ions written by Johann Korkisch and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 633 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern Methods for the Separation of Rarer Metal Ions describes several separation methods of more than 50 elements. This book is divided into 19 chapters that include separation methods involving the actinide elements, rare earths, and many rarer elements of the main and transition groups of the periodic table. The introductory chapter discusses the principles of the separation techniques presented in this book. The remaining chapters explore the application of specific separation methods, such as ion exchange, chromatography, liquid-liquid extraction, distillation, and coprecipitation. The approach of each chapter is a presentation of separation principle of an element first followed by numerous examples of applications to the solution of practical problems encountered in separation chemistry. Chapters 2 and 3 examine the separations involving the actinides and rare earth elements using ion exchange and liquid-liquid extraction These are followed by chapters dealing with separations of other rarer elements, which have been arranged according to their position in the periodic table. These elements are: Li, Rb, Cs, Fr, Be, Ra, Ga, In, Tl, Ge, Ag, Au, Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Nb, Ta, Mo, W, Tc, Re and the platinum metals. This book will be of great use to analytical chemists.

Book The Analytical Chemistry of the Noble Metals

Download or read book The Analytical Chemistry of the Noble Metals written by F. E. Beamish and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 624 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analytical Chemistry, Volume 24: The Analytical Chemistry of the Noble Metals describes the procedures for the separation, extraction, and analysis of noble metals. This book is composed of seven chapters, and begins with a survey on the influence of metallurgical factors on the susceptibility of platinum and gold metals to various corrosive agents. The succeeding chapter provides the methods of isolation of osmium and ruthenium from associated platinum metals and from base metals. A chapter examines the application of gravimetric methods for the separation of seven noble metals, including ruthenium, osmium, rhodium, iridium, palladium, platinum, and gold. Other chapters consider the procedures for volumetric, spectrophotometric, and spectrochemical analysis of noble metals. The concluding chapter describes the features and attributes of the equipment for noble metal analysis. This book is of value to analytical chemists and workers and researchers in metallurgy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume will capture transformational changes in both the chemistry and engineering side of solvent extraction, creating new directions and deepening our understanding of the structure and dynamics of liquid-liquid systems from the molecular- to nano- to meso- to bulk-scale. Reviews will cover advances in microfluidics, new tools for understanding the structure and dynamics of the liquid-liquid interface, ionic liquids in liquid-liquid extraction, molecular dynamics to visualize interactions in the solvent phase, liquid-liquid electrochemistry to interrogate the energetics of interfacial transport and complexation, design of new extractants, and the streamlining of process applications. --

Book Electrophoresis in Stabilizing Media

Download or read book Electrophoresis in Stabilizing Media written by John Whitaker and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paper Chromatography and Electrophoresis, Volume I: Electrophoresis in Stabilizing Media covers the general features of electrophoresis in stabilizing media. The book includes a consideration of the factors which determine the rate of movement of the compounds in an electrical field, the factors which must be controlled in order to obtain successful results, as well as the general arrangement and types of equipment used. The text also provides a description of methods for the separation of specific classes of compounds (amines, amino acids, peptides, proteins, nucleic acids, derivatives, and related compounds, carbohydrates, and organic acids and derivatives) normally encountered by chemists. Inorganic chemists, organic chemists, clinical chemists, and biochemists will find the book invaluable.

Book The Separation of Trace Elements in High purity Rhodium and Iridium Materials

Download or read book The Separation of Trace Elements in High purity Rhodium and Iridium Materials written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the determination of trace levels of impurities in high-purity rhodium and iridium materials by atomic-absorption spectrophotometry, significant interference is encountered from the high concentration level of the major element, despite the use of releasing agents. This report describes the experimental work carried out, firstly, on the extent of the interference and, secondly, on methods of separation that will permit interference-free measurement of the impurities. Chromatographic separation of the major element from the other noble metals is achieved by use of cellulose powder as the stationary phase and a mixture of tributyl phosphate and toluene as the mobile phase. Base-metal impurities are separated by means of the cation exchanger Dowex 50W-X8. Although the determination of rhodium, iridium, and ruthenium as impurities is not as good as that of platinum and palladium, the method does afford a means of analysing the ammonium chloride salts of rhodium and iridium at the 99,99 per cent purity level. With furnace atomization, the lower limits of determination range from 0,5 ug/g for palladium to 5,0 ug/g for iridium, with precisions varying between 3 and 23 per cent.

Book Preconcentration Techniques For Trace Elements

Download or read book Preconcentration Techniques For Trace Elements written by Zeev Alfassi and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1991-12-07 with total page 490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Accurate determination of trace elements is critical in various fields of science and technology. Direct measurement of trace elements in samples with complex matrices is often impractical, either due to analytical sensitivity limitations or matrix interferences. Preconcentration procedures are generally needed to eliminate matrix interferences and/or enrich minute amounts of analytes to a level for reliable measurements. Preconcentration Techniques for Trace Elements provides up-to-date information on various preconcentration techniques and detailed discussions regarding such topics as the dissolution of matrices, coprecipitation, solvent extraction, electrochemical means, ion exchange, sorption, chromatographic methods, flotation, membranes, volatization, polymer foam sorbents, fire assay, isotachophoresis, and filter papers. This comprehensive volume, featuring contributions from 21 experts from nine countries, will provide valuable reference material for all scientists and technicians dealing with trace analysis of real-world samples.
