Book Stability and Robustness of Multivariable Feedback Systems

Download or read book Stability and Robustness of Multivariable Feedback Systems written by Michael George Safonov and published by MIT Press (MA). This book was released on 1980-01 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book on stability theory and robustness will interest researchers and advanced graduate students in the area of feedback control engineering, circuits, and systems. It will also appeal to mathematicians who are involved in applications of functional analysis to engineering problems. The book provides a methodology for the rigorous treatment of such inherently feedback aspects of dynamical system design as robustness and sensitivity, just as many researchers are beginning to realize that this type of methodology is mandatory if modern systems theory is to be used to design complicated multivariable and large-scale systems. The main objective of the book is to provide a clear mathematical formulation of the issues that arise in designing feedback systems that are robust against the destabilizing effects of unknown-but-bounded uncertainty in component dynamics. It is the first study to identify formal methods for the quantitative analysis of multiloop feedback system robustness. The view that is presents of nonlinear, multiloop feedback system stability theory is unique, lucid, and conceptually appealing. Lyapunov and input-output stability theories are unified in a new and simple geometrical perspective based on the topological separation of spaces. This perspective greatly facilitates visualization of the underlying conceptual issues in stability and robustness theory and serves to motivate specific results concerning the robustness of feedback systems. Potentially, this methodology may be applied to nonlinear feedback design, validation of modeling approximations, hierarchical control system design, and stability margin analysis for multiloop feedback systems. This book is the third publication in The MIT Press Series in Signal Processing, Optimization, and Control, edited by Alan S. Willsky.

Book Multivariable Feedback Control

Download or read book Multivariable Feedback Control written by Sigurd Skogestad and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2005-11-04 with total page 594 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multivariable Feedback Control: Analysis and Design, Second Edition presents a rigorous, yet easily readable, introduction to the analysis and design of robust multivariable control systems. Focusing on practical feedback control and not on system theory in general, this book provides the reader with insights into the opportunities and limitations of feedback control. Taking into account the latest developments in the field, this fully revised and updated second edition: * features a new chapter devoted to the use of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs); * presents current results on fundamental performance limitations introduced by RHP-poles and RHP-zeros; * introduces updated material on the selection of controlled variables and self-optimizing control; * provides simple IMC tuning rules for PID control; * covers additional material including unstable plants, the feedback amplifier, the lower gain margin and a clear strategy for incorporating integral action into LQG control; * includes numerous worked examples, exercises and case studies, which make frequent use of Matlab and the new Robust Control toolbox. Multivariable Feedback Control: Analysis and Design, Second Edition is an excellent resource for advanced undergraduate and graduate courses studying multivariable control. It is also an invaluable tool for engineers who want to understand multivariable control, its limitations, and how it can be applied in practice. The analysis techniques and the material on control structure design should prove very useful in the new emerging area of systems biology. Reviews of the first edition: "Being rich in insights and practical tips on controller design, the book should also prove to be very beneficial to industrial control engineers, both as a reference book and as an educational tool." Applied Mechanics Reviews "In summary, this book can be strongly recommended not only as a basic text in multivariable control techniques for graduate and undergraduate students, but also as a valuable source of information for control engineers." International Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing

Book Robust and Insensitive Design of Multivariable Feedback Systems Multimodel Design

Download or read book Robust and Insensitive Design of Multivariable Feedback Systems Multimodel Design written by Irmfried Hartmann and published by Vieweg+teubner Verlag. This book was released on 1986 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The object of this monograph is to present some optimal design methods in a certain sense for obtaining linear multivariable feedback systems such that they become insensitive or robust properties. The treatment is mainly confined to linear time invariant discrete systems with the exception of the sections 3.1 and 3.3 in which it was used linear time-invariant conti nuous systems. Sensitivity and robust methods for multivariable feedback systems have been extensively studied about the last decade and the successful development has led to a much better under standing of the performance of insensitive and robust proce dures. The contribution of this monograph is an improved beha viour of the feedback systems under the influence of distur bance, parameter variations and/or nonlinear effects with new design methods. Furthermore, in chapter 3 the reader finds improved necessary and sufficient conditions for robust stabi lity of the closed-loop system. The authors would like to express their thanks to Mrs. Regina Hade, who typed with great patience our manuscript and Mrs. Monika Thieke who drew the figures and symbols very careful.

Book Feedback Control Theory

Download or read book Feedback Control Theory written by John C. Doyle and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2013-04-09 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An excellent introduction to feedback control system design, this book offers a theoretical approach that captures the essential issues and can be applied to a wide range of practical problems. Its explorations of recent developments in the field emphasize the relationship of new procedures to classical control theory, with a focus on single input and output systems that keeps concepts accessible to students with limited backgrounds. The text is geared toward a single-semester senior course or a graduate-level class for students of electrical engineering. The opening chapters constitute a basic treatment of feedback design. Topics include a detailed formulation of the control design program, the fundamental issue of performance/stability robustness tradeoff, and the graphical design technique of loopshaping. Subsequent chapters extend the discussion of the loopshaping technique and connect it with notions of optimality. Concluding chapters examine controller design via optimization, offering a mathematical approach that is useful for multivariable systems.

Book Advanced and Multivariable Control

Download or read book Advanced and Multivariable Control written by Lalo Magni and published by Società Editrice Esculapio. This book was released on 2023-05-05 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook is designed for an advanced course in control theory. The purpose of Chapter 1 is to introduce some results on the stability of dynamic systems achieved with the Lyapunov theory, and on its use for the synthesis of nonlinear control laws. The definition of norms and gains of dynamic systems is reported in Chapter 2 to provide the reader with the mathematical tools required in the following chapters. Some basic techniques for the analysis and the control of single-input, single-output systems are recalled in Chapter 3 to motivate the introduction, in the following chapters, of synthesis techniques for multi-input, multi-output systems. The analysis of multivariable systems, in terms of poles and zeros, manipulation rules of block diagrams, frequency response, stability of the feedback system, and static and dynamic performance, are discussed in Chapters 4 and 5. In Chapter 6 the pole-placement approach for the synthesis of state feedback control laws and state observers is described. Optimal control synthesis techniques for continuous- time systems are presented from Chapter 7 to 10. Specifically, the Linear Quadratic control method, the Kalman filter and the LQG control are widely described together with their main properties. These results are then extended to the discrete-time case in Chapter 11. The main algorithms and results of Model Predictive Control are finally presented in Chapter 12. Some useful mathematical notions are summarized in the Appendix. • stability • Lyapunov theory • multivariable systems • pole placement • state observers • optimal control • linear quadratic control • Kalman filter • LQG control • model predictive control

Book Methods for Assessing the Robustness Properties of a Linear Multivariable Feedback Design

Download or read book Methods for Assessing the Robustness Properties of a Linear Multivariable Feedback Design written by Ian Postlethwaite and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On completing the design of a multivariable feedback system it is always desirable to be able to predict that under certain changes the system will remain stable. In these notes some methods are described for determining the robustness properties of a multivariable feedback system under (1) simultaneous variation of sensor (or actuator) gains; (2) simultaneous nonlinear perturbations of loop gains; and (3) plant parameter uncertainty. Book Multivariable Feedback Systems

Download or read book Multivariable Feedback Systems written by F. M. Callier and published by Springer. This book was released on 1982-08-31 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is the result of our teaching in the last few years of a first year graduate course on multivariable feedback systems addressed to control engineers. The prerequisites are modest: an undergraduate course in control (for acquaintance with concepts, terms, and design goals) and a senior-graduate course in linear systems. This volume covers lumped linear time-invariant multi-input multi-output systems with strong emphasis on control problems. The purpose is to provide a rapid introduction to some of the main and simpler results of control theory and to provide access to the current literature. Note that our exposition pays particular attention to the time-domain behavior of the systems under study. Note also that we cover neither optimization nor stochastic systems since these topics are treated in separate courses. As is obvious from its abundant literature, multivariable control is a very rapidly developing field. Consequently, we have no expectation that our exposition will become definitive; however, we hope that our efforts will be found useful. To get an idea of the contents, we suggest reading carefully the table of contents and the introduction of the chapters. Roughly, Chapter 1 is an introduction to feedback issues in a multivariable context (desensitization, large gain, singular values, etc. ). Chapters 2 and 3 cover the mathematical tools for handling transfer functions as polynomial-matrix fractions and for studying systems described by polynomial matrices. Chapter 4 uses these tools to cover the general theory of interconnected systems.
