Book Selling School Budgets in Hard Times

Download or read book Selling School Budgets in Hard Times written by William Goldstein and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Financial planning for education is a difficult task as schools struggle for a share of diminishing tax resources. The presentation of school budgets for voter approval must be done as effectively as possible. When presenting budgets, administrators should take into account that the public has a low tolerance for detail, budgets are boring, a well informed public is more positive, presentation materials should be attractive and brief, support groups are needed, and the media should be used wisely. The most important component of the process is the presentation of the budget support material. Fifteen suggestions for presenting budget proposals to the public are provided. The printed budget should be attractive, be self-explanatory, answer the public's questions, use graphics and easily understood tables, and use clear uncluttered prose. The author provides an example of a "bird's eye" budget that is easy to read, understandable, and inexpensively produced. A checklist for assessing a school's budget presentation is provided. Selling budgets in difficult times is hard work that takes careful planning and thorough understanding of demographics, social climate, and financial capabilities. (MD)

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We're defined by our failures only if we let ourselves be. In today's stressful climate of education budget shortfalls, ever-evolving academic standards, and widespread cultural transformation, how can educators find the confidence to become the leaders they hope to be? Thrive through the Five helps school leaders navigate that challenging 5 percent of work (and life) when things are really, really hard. The goal of this book is to not just help readers survive through those moments, days, and seasons, but to lead through them and truly thrive. The superintendent of Gunter ISD, a growing school district an hour north of Dallas, Dr. Siler offers a refreshingly honest account of the challenges and pitfalls of leadership. Coupled with her infectious optimism, her wisdom and insight invite educational professionals to take the next best step and move confidently--even through the toughest times. "Thrive through the Five transforms challenges into positive opportunities and achievement. It's a must-read for school leaders." --Jon Gordon, New York Times best-selling author of The Energy Bus and The Power of Positive Leadership "In Thrive through the Five, Dr. Siler uses her own experiences and expertise to provide practical, relevant insights into how all school leaders can thrive in those difficult times. This should be required reading for anyone who dares to be a great leader." --Kevin Brown, EdD, executive director, Texas Association of School Administrators "Thrive through the Five is a great story of one leader's journey to find a way through the parts of our jobs that don't always bring us the most joy, but often take up the most time. The quotes will inspire and the process will clearly help you navigate the 5 percent that has such an impact on our world both emotionally and physically as leaders." --Joe Sanfelippo, PhD, superintendent, Fall Creek School District, and author of Hacking Leadership

Book Personalizing Staff Development

Download or read book Personalizing Staff Development written by Judith Christensen and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This booklet examines teachers' professional development from the standpoint of several recent reform reports, particularly the concept of the career ladder. A critique of this model serves as a reference point for an alternative approach to professional development called the "Career Lattice Model". This individualized model for growth in the teaching profession evolved from research on teacher career stages. The career lattice is a model that can provide financial, empowering, and personal incentives, and its flexibility provides options for teachers in various stages of their careers. It emphasizes collegiality, not competition, and can be used alone or as part of a career ladder or other career incentive plan. Examples are offered of the use of the career lattice model, and its strengths and limitations are pointed out. (JD)
