Book Self Transcendence and Ego Surrender A Quiet Enough Ego Or an Ever Quieter Ego

Download or read book Self Transcendence and Ego Surrender A Quiet Enough Ego Or an Ever Quieter Ego written by David Hartman and published by Wellness Press. This book was released on 2015-08 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abraham Maslow discovered a natural evolution of adult development, moving through meeting increasingly subtle human needs to self-transcendence and ego surrender. One's ego surrenders by quieting, recognizing itself to be a sibling to other aspects of the psyche rather than a parent or an overlord, and acknowledging the rightful leadership of the ultimate organizing principle within, the Transpersonal Self. The quieting can follow the course of balance, seeking a "quiet-enough ego," or of growth, seeking an "ever-quieter ego." Either choice brings increasing tranquility amidst the challenges of life in today's world because, paradoxically, an experience of ego surrender and of letting go increases an individual's internal locus of control, the deep knowing that what happens to them is a consequence of their own actions. Transpersonal Psychology helps people by escorting them through the layers of their personal work: repairing damage done by early abuse and neglect, becoming accountable for one's own shadow, meeting and befriending the archetypal inhabitants of one's unconscious, and developing one's optimal functioning to fulfill one's destiny. Progress all the way to your highest potential, to the higher stages of ego development, what Abraham Maslow called "transcending self-actualization" and what Carl Jung called "individuation." Transpersonal self-actualization is opening our visionary potential, clearing away the blocks that have kept us from seeing our own true light. Our shadows provide sanctuary for our fears, but also point the way to our greatest strengths. Create a vision for the future, and develop strategies for achieving that vision. An expanded worldview propels you to higher levels of meaning, life purpose, and identity - your real, true identity. Develop mindfulness, a witness perspective, taoistic receptivity, transcendence through humility, resilience and serenity. Experience the higher stages of ego development - "transcending self-actualization" or "individuation."

Book Transcending Self interest

Download or read book Transcending Self interest written by Heidi A. Wayment and published by American Psychological Association (APA). This book was released on 2008 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "For decades social scientists have observed that Americans are becoming more selfish, headstrong, and callous. Instead of lamenting a cultural slide toward narcissism, Transcending Self-Interest: Psychological Explorations of the Quiet Ego provides a constructive framework for understanding--and conducting research on--both the problems of egocentrism and the ways of transcending it. Heidi A. Wayment and Jack J. Bauer have assembled a group of contributors who are helping to reshape how the field of psychology defines the self in the 21st century. In the spirit of positive psychology, these authors call us to move beyond individualistic and pathological notions of self versus other. Their theories and research suggest two paths to this transcendence: (a) balancing the needs of self and others in one's everyday life and (b) developing compassion, nondefensive self-awareness, and interdependent self-identity. At the end of these converging paths lies a quiet ego--an ego less concerned with self-promotion than with the flourishing of both the self and others. Readers will find in this volume inspiration not only for future work in psychology but also for their own efforts toward personal development"--Jacket. Book The Spiritual Self and the Transcendence of the Ego

Download or read book The Spiritual Self and the Transcendence of the Ego written by William Vissen Rago and published by . This book was released on 2021-06-15 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you think about self-awareness, it becomes apparent that there is a sense of "I-ness" that accompanies most of our conscious perceptions but not all of them. If you think about behavior, it becomes apparent that the meaning of our perceptions is what organizes and directs our behavior. Therefore, experience seems to be telling us that it is the I of self-awareness that is responsible for our behavior. So, what happens when this I is not present but behavior not only continues but is also adapted to the environment? Who is it that perceives the world at this moment, and is it this hidden entity that behaves? At its heart this is what this book is about. It begins with our behavior and says that if the I self is not present in self-consciousness, but we still behave then there must be a different form of self that perceives the world and acts according to this perception. That is, there must be different forms of self that co-exist with the I but we do not readily recognize. In questioning our experience we will recognize the presence of three phases of self, the "me" self, the "I" self (or what we know as the ego) and a third phase, the spiritual self. This book begins with these phases and discusses the implications for not only how we perceive and behave in the world but also the possibility of deeper meanings hiding in the presence of these selves. Meanings associated with the presence of the spiritual self that reach into the smallest levels of the universe to reveal the potential human being possesses to shape the world in which we live.

Book The Ego Is Not the Real You

Download or read book The Ego Is Not the Real You written by David R. Hawkins, M.D., Ph.D. and published by National Geographic Books. This book was released on 2021-08-31 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Learn to let go of the illusions of the ego and discover the real you with this collection of inspiring quotes on the ego, mind, and spiritual enlightenment from human-consciousness expert Dr. David R. Hawkins. Are you willing to let go of seeing yourself as the ego believes you to be? Are you willing to go further, to know that the ego itself is an illusion? In this book, select teachings from Dr. David R. Hawkins’s extensive body of work will guide you in the process of realization, surrender, and transformation. When we let go of the old ways of thinking, our attachments, and the false promises of the ego, we discover the truth that we are one with All. Features classic passages, including: It is not really necessary to subdue the ego, but merely to stop identifying with it. Every life experience, no matter how “tragic,” contains a hidden lesson. When we discover and acknowledge the hidden gift that is there, a healing takes place. Enlightenment is not a condition to be obtained; it is merely a certainty to be surrendered to, for the Self is already one’s Reality. It is the Self that is attracting one to spiritual information. To be enlightened merely means that consciousness has realized its most inner, innate quality as nonlinear subjectivity and its capacity for awareness. The only energy that has more power than the strength of the collective ego is that of Spiritual Truth. “This book is small in size, but it can have a massive impact on your life. It will take you through the process of a total transformation of consciousness—if you choose to apply its teachings deeply within yourself.” — From the Introduction by Fran Grace, Ph.D.

Book excerpt: This book delivers scientific backing for the stages of ego growth, what it means to have a mature ego, and the steps to take for getting there. Not only does the path of growing up the ego connect us to the mission of our souls, it also provides a crucible strong enough to support the transcendent experiences we so yearn for. In learning of the essential role of the ego--that of keeping us alive and giving us a sense of self-- readers soon discover that when we're born, the ego has as much growing up to do as the rest of us. When bonding with caretakers is interrupted or fails, we see the results in children and adults who lack self-esteem, cannot be empathic, cannot establish healthy relationships, and who may act out in varying ways. Like no other book in its genre, GROW UP YOUR EGO shows how the ego can "grow up" at any time through the identification and maturing of defense mechanisms; by learning how to appropriately self-soothe; and through wholesome relationships. In language anyone can understand, this self-help book leads readers through chapter content and exercises. Case examples and step-by-step encouragement contribute to this holistic overview of how spirituality is par and parcel of our humanness.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The brilliant, controversial, bestselling critique of American culture that “hits with the approximate force and effect of electroshock therapy” (The New York Times)—now featuring a new afterword by Andrew Ferguson in a twenty-fifth anniversary edition. In 1987, eminent political philosopher Allan Bloom published The Closing of the American Mind, an appraisal of contemporary America that “hits with the approximate force and effect of electroshock therapy” (The New York Times) and has not only been vindicated, but has also become more urgent today. In clear, spirited prose, Bloom argues that the social and political crises of contemporary America are part of a larger intellectual crisis: the result of a dangerous narrowing of curiosity and exploration by the university elites. Now, in this twenty-fifth anniversary edition, acclaimed author and journalist Andrew Ferguson contributes a new essay that describes why Bloom’s argument caused such a furor at publication and why our culture so deeply resists its truths today.

Book From Therapy to Life Mastery Coaching as a Natural Next Step from Hypnotherapy

Download or read book From Therapy to Life Mastery Coaching as a Natural Next Step from Hypnotherapy written by David Hartman and published by Wellness Press. This book was released on 2014-11 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The focus in psychology and psychotherapy for most of the twentieth century was on repairing the negatives of symptoms, traumas, disorders and deficits. Then around the turn of the century a refreshing movement began to gain credibility: Positive psychology and positive psychotherapy. Positive psychotherapy contrasts with standard therapeutic interventions for symptoms of mental or emotional dysfunction by increasing positive emotion, engagement, character strengths, and meaning rather than directly targeting negative symptoms. This developing trend is a direct descendent of the humanistic psychology movement and transpersonal psychology which evolved in the second half of the twentieth century. A further development in this continuum adds the dimension of adult development for optimal functioning into as yet unrealized potential: life coaching. Coaching hypnosis is the deliberate use of hypnotic strategies and principles as an adjunct to accepted coaching process. The inclusion of hypnosis, NLP techniques, and hypnotic strategies and principles in coaching is not only appropriate but highly effective. We will document some of the neuroscience reasons for this. Hypnosis creates a state of dual effect: relaxation yet responsiveness. The conscious mind is calmed, enabling access to the unconscious mind - 'trance logic' - a way of reasoning that does not follow the rules of 'normal' logical processes. Through this mechanism, an individual may have experiences and interpret them in ways that transcend their conscious rational belief system, opening new perspectives and expanded horizons of what is possible. Hypnosis: a new dimension in coaching.
