Book Self diffusion and Impurity Diffusion in Pure Metals

Download or read book Self diffusion and Impurity Diffusion in Pure Metals written by Gerhard Neumann and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-08-19 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Diffusion in metals is an important phenomenon, which has many applications, for example in all kinds of steel and aluminum production, and in alloy formation (technical applications e.g. in superconductivity and semiconductor science). In this book the data on diffusion in metals are shown, both in graphs and in equations. Reliable data on diffusion in metals are required by researchers who try to make sense of results from all kinds of metallurgical experiments, and they are equally needed by theorists and computer modelers. The previous compilation dates from 1990, and measurements relying on the electron microprobe and the recent Rutherford backscattering technique were hardly taken into account there. This reference book, containing all results on self-diffusion and impurity diffusion in pure metals with an indication of their reliability, will be useful to everyone in this field for the theory, fundamental research and industrial applications covered. • Up-to-date and complete (including EPMA and RBS investigations) • Indication of reliability of the measurements • Reassessment of many early results • Data can easily be extracted from Tables and Graphs

Book SELF DIFFUSION IN DELTA IRON

Download or read book SELF DIFFUSION IN DELTA IRON written by LARS I. STAFFANSSON and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Self-diffusion of Fe was measured in delta Fe between 1404 and 1518 C. Although the delta Fe results are adequately described by the equation D equals 0.019 exp ( -42400/RT) sq cm per sec, in order to join these coefficients in a reasonable way with the self-diffusion coefficients of alpha Fe, it is necessary to introduce a curved line in the plot of logarithm of diffusivity versus reciprocal of absolute temperature. Although this curved line diminishes the magnitude of the Curie point anomalies observed for self-diffusion in alpha Fe and probably for diffusion in Fe-V alloys, it does not appear that the excess vacancy formation energy arising from spin ordering is enough to account for the whole Curie point effect. Possible ways to obtain information about changes in the activation energy for vacancy motion are discussed. (Author).

Book Diffusion in Solid Metals and Alloys Diffusion in festen Metallen und Legierungen

Download or read book Diffusion in Solid Metals and Alloys Diffusion in festen Metallen und Legierungen written by H. Bakker and published by Springer. This book was released on 1990-12-19 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The interest in diffusion in solids is as old as physical metallurgy or materials science. It stems from application-oriented as well as from scientific reasons. First, a knowledge of diffusion is basic to an understanding of many microstructural changes that occur in solid matter at elevated temperatures. For processes like phase transformations, precipitation or dissolution of a second phase, recrystallization, oxidation, creep, annealing etc., solid state diffusion is fundamental and ubiquitous. The second reason for studying diffusion is to learn more about how atoms move in solid matter. Volume III/26 presents for the first time a comprehensive collection of diffusion data for solid metals and alloys. The critical compilation of data has resulted in tables and series of diagrams which show in 13 chapters data for the following properties: Self- and impurity-diffusion in metallic elements, self-diffusion in homogeneous binary alloys, chemical diffusion in binary and ternary alloys, diffusion in amorphous alloys, diffusion of interstitial foreign atoms like hydrogen, carbon, oxygen and nitrogen in metallic elements, mass and pressure dependence of diffusion, diffusion along dislocations, grain and interphase boundary diffusion, and diffusion on surfaces.

Book Diffusion in Crystalline Solids

Download or read book Diffusion in Crystalline Solids written by G E Murch and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 503 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Diffusion in Crystalline Solids addresses some of the most active areas of research on diffusion in crystalline solids. Topics covered include measurement of tracer diffusion coefficients in solids, diffusion in silicon and germanium, atom transport in oxides of the fluorite structure, tracer diffusion in concentrated alloys, diffusion in dislocations, grain boundary diffusion mechanisms in metals, and the use of the Monte Carlo Method to simulate diffusion kinetics. This book is made up of eight chapters and begins with an introduction to the measurement of diffusion coefficients with radioisotopes. The following three chapters consider diffusion in materials of substantial technological importance such as silicon and germanium. Atomic transport in oxides of the fluorite structure is described, and diffusion in concentrated alloys, including intermetallic compounds, is analyzed. The next two chapters delve into diffusion along short-circuiting paths, focusing on the effect of diffusion down dislocations on the form of the tracer concentration profile. The book also discusses the mechanisms of diffusion in grain boundaries in metals by invoking considerable work done on grain-boundary structure. The last two chapters are concerned with computer simulation, paying particular attention to machine calculations and the Monte Carlo method. The book concludes by exploring the fundamental atomic migration process and presenting some state-of-the-art calculations for defect energies and the topology of the saddle surface. Students and researchers of material science will find this book extremely useful.

Book Thermodynamics of Point Defects and Their Relation with Bulk Properties

Download or read book Thermodynamics of Point Defects and Their Relation with Bulk Properties written by P.A. Varotsos and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 489 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Defects in Solids, Volume 14: Thermodynamics of Point Defects and Their Relation with Bulk Properties focuses on the methodologies, approaches, and reactions involved in the study of point defects in solids. The book first offers information on thermodynamic functions and formation of vacancies. Topics include parameters from the comparison with isochoric perfect crystal; relation between isobaric and isochoric parameters; temperature dependence of thermodynamic functions of solids; and statistical approach to vacancy parameters. The text then ponders on the formation of other point defects, migration, and thermodynamics of specific heat. The publication explains the analysis of experiments yielding defect parameters, including X-ray parameters, analysis of specific heat measurements, and ionic conductivity and reorientation of dipoles. The text also takes a look at mixed alkali and silver halides, explanation of empirical laws, as well as explanation of the empirical laws connecting activation entropy and enthalpy to the activation volume and variation of the bulk modulus with composition. The selection is a dependable reference for scientists and geophysicists interested in the thermodynamics of point defects.
