Book Self diffusion in Ice Single Crystals

Download or read book Self diffusion in Ice Single Crystals written by Kazuhiko Itagaki and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Measurements of the diffusion constants in single crystals of ice in directions parallel and perpendicular to the c-axis are described. The anisotropy of activation energy was obtained. The higher activation energy perpendicular to the c-axis indicates the free interstitial molecular jump mechanism for diffusion in ice. (Author).

Book Ice Physics and the Natural Environment

Download or read book Ice Physics and the Natural Environment written by John S. Wettlaufer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Advanced Study Institute Ice Physics in the Natural and Endangered Environ ment was held at Acquafredda di Maratea, Italy, from September 7 to 19, 1997. The ASI was designed to study the broad range of ice science and technology, and it brought together an appropriately interdisciplinary group of lecturers and students to study the many facets of the subject. The talks and poster presentations explored how basic molecular physics of ice have important environmental consequences, and, con versely, how natural phenomena present new questions for fundamental study. The of lectures discusses these linkages, in order that overall unity of following sunimary the subject and this volume can be perceived. Not all of the lecturers and participants were able to contribute a written piece, but their active involvement was crucial to the success of the Institute and thereby influenced the content of the volume. We began the Institute by retracing the history of the search for a microscopic un derstanding of melting. Our motivation was straightforward. Nearly every phenome non involving ice in the environment is influenced by the change of phase from solid to liquid or vice-versa. Hence, a sufficiently deep physical picture of the melting tran sition enriches our appreciation of a vast array of geophysical and technical problems.

Download or read book Ice Physics written by Peter Victor Hobbs and published by . This book was released on 2010-05-06 with total page 856 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph provides an account of the physics and chemistry of ice. Informed by research from physicists, chemists and glaciologists, the book places emphasis on the basic physical properties of ice, the modes of nucleation and growth of ice, and the interpretation of these phenomena in terms of molecular structure.

Book The Electrodynamics of Water and Ice

Download or read book The Electrodynamics of Water and Ice written by Vasily Artemov and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-04-20 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a research monograph summarizing recent advances related to the molecular structure of water and ice, and it is based on the latest spectroscopic data available. A special focus is given to radio- and microwave frequency regions. Within the five interconnected chapters, the author reviews the electromagnetic waves interaction with water, ice, and moist substances, discussing the microscopic mechanisms behind the dielectric responses. Well-established classic views concerning the structure of water and ice are considered along with new approaches related to atomic and molecular dynamics. Particular attention is given to nanofluidics, atmospheric science, and electrochemistry. The mathematical apparatus, based on diverse approaches employed in condensed matter physics, is widely used and allows the reader to quantitatively describe the electrodynamic response of water and ice in both bulk and confined states. This book is intended for a wide audience covering physicists, electrochemists, geophysicists, engineers, biophysicists, and general scientists who work on the electromagnetic radiation interaction with water and moist substances.
