Download or read book Educational Research and Professional Learning in Changing Times The MARBLE Experience written by Jane Watson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-09-18 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Educational Research and Professional Learning in Changing Times reports three dimensions of a longitudinal Australian study with the ultimate aim of improving the mathematics learning outcomes for all middle school students in preparation for the quantitative literacy requirements of the 21st century. It was also hoped to improve the prospects for students with the interest to study further mathematics. The project provided professional learning opportunities for teachers, carried out case studies in individual schools, produced well-documented classroom activities in line with the aims, and measured teacher and student change over three years. The three main sections of the book cover the formal data collection and analysis, the qualitative analysis of the case studies, and some of the professional learning activities for teachers. The final section reports the reflections of the authors, especially in relation to the changing educational environment in which the project took place. Many other countries are experiencing similar educational change. The book will supplement other resources for graduate programs for pre-service and in-service mathematics teachers by modeling both a realistic approach to quantitative and qualitative research and a range of practical classroom activities. It will also assist those providing professional learning for teachers in the field unrelated to formal research, as two thirds of the content is based on classroom experiences with mathematics.
Download or read book A Conflict of Visions written by Thomas Sowell and published by Basic Books. This book was released on 2007-06-05 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thomas Sowell’s “extraordinary” explication of the competing visions of human nature lie at the heart of our political conflicts (New York Times) Controversies in politics arise from many sources, but the conflicts that endure for generations or centuries show a remarkably consistent pattern. In this classic work, Thomas Sowell analyzes this pattern. He describes the two competing visions that shape our debates about the nature of reason, justice, equality, and power: the "constrained" vision, which sees human nature as unchanging and selfish, and the "unconstrained" vision, in which human nature is malleable and perfectible. A Conflict of Visions offers a convincing case that ethical and policy disputes circle around the disparity between both outlooks.
Download or read book Charismatic to the Core written by Nikki Owen and published by SRA Books. This book was released on 2015-09-10 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are you charismatic enough to be a successful leader? You don’t have to shout or show off to be charismatic. Charisma is often seen as an intangible concept that unconsciously attracts a negative reaction in the world of business. There is a stereotypical image that a charismatic leader is a confident extrovert with a big personality. Even if charisma can be taught, (and many research papers indicate that you either have it or you don’t) the question is: how important is charisma for leadership success? Life puts layers onto individuals, much like paint. Year after year, more layers are added until you no longer know how deeply buried the authentic you is. It’s time to start celebrating the real you! In Charismatic to the Core, Nikki Owen strips away the unwanted layers and takes you back to your authentic self. It is a revelation, a rebirth, a realisation that life can be on your own terms. Your leadership impact can be whatever you desire it to be. When you are being true to who you really are at your core, your charisma shines through.

Download or read book Hidden and Revealed written by Dmytro Bintsarovskyi and published by Lexham Press. This book was released on 2021-07-14 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A major contribution to ecumenical reflection on the doctrine of God. The past century has seen renewed interest in the doctrine of God. While theological traditions disagree, their shared commitment to Nicene orthodoxy provides a common language for thinking and speaking about God. This dialogue has deepened our understanding of this shared way of thinking about God, but little has been done across ecumenical lines to explore God's hiddenness in revelation. In Hidden and Revealed, Dmytro Bintsarovskyi explores the hiddenness and revelation of God in two separate theological streams—Reformed and Orthodox. Bintsarovskyi shows that an understanding of both traditions reflects a deep structure of shared language, history, and commitments, while nevertheless reflecting real differences. With Herman Bavinck and John Meyendorff as his guides, Bintsarovskyi advances ecumenical dialogue on a doctrine central to our knowledge of God.

Download or read book Making Eye Health a Population Health Imperative written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2017-01-15 with total page 587 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ability to see deeply affects how human beings perceive and interpret the world around them. For most people, eyesight is part of everyday communication, social activities, educational and professional pursuits, the care of others, and the maintenance of personal health, independence, and mobility. Functioning eyes and vision system can reduce an adult's risk of chronic health conditions, death, falls and injuries, social isolation, depression, and other psychological problems. In children, properly maintained eye and vision health contributes to a child's social development, academic achievement, and better health across the lifespan. The public generally recognizes its reliance on sight and fears its loss, but emphasis on eye and vision health, in general, has not been integrated into daily life to the same extent as other health promotion activities, such as teeth brushing; hand washing; physical and mental exercise; and various injury prevention behaviors. A larger population health approach is needed to engage a wide range of stakeholders in coordinated efforts that can sustain the scope of behavior change. The shaping of socioeconomic environments can eventually lead to new social norms that promote eye and vision health. Making Eye Health a Population Health Imperative: Vision for Tomorrow proposes a new population-centered framework to guide action and coordination among various, and sometimes competing, stakeholders in pursuit of improved eye and vision health and health equity in the United States. Building on the momentum of previous public health efforts, this report also introduces a model for action that highlights different levels of prevention activities across a range of stakeholders and provides specific examples of how population health strategies can be translated into cohesive areas for action at federal, state, and local levels.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on her research and 30 years of experience helping people lead and manage meaningful change, Beverley Patwell offers a new framework to guide and enhance the change journey. This approach is humanizing, engaging, and results in the belief in a higher purpose that permeates throughout the organization while at the same time achieves outcomes that are far greater than one person’s single contribution. Patwell’s framework is effective in: • creating a shared vision that compels people to be engaged and involved in the change journey; • developing internal leaders and strong, cohesive and aligned teams to lead, manage and support the changes; and • developing strategies to effectively lead, manage and evaluate the human side of change. At the core of the framework are the Use-of-Self principles applied to the change process as seen through interviews with 24 multi-generational emerging, current and long-service leaders who explain why Use-of-Self remains a key element in successfully leading and managing change. The book also includes practical tools to help leaders and managers across the globe address change leadership challenges.
