He quotes the torva voluptas frontis of Claudian, " the stern voluptuousness of look;"--Aristotle--'hsv pita. 0o -goTiTo--" a sweetness with terror;"--and Cicero, who says that an orator ought to have suavitatem austeram et solidam, non dulcem atque decoctam, " a suavity austere and with a body to it, not cloying and over-cooked." This decoctam, which is a bold word for Cicero, resembles the epithet mulled, which Shakspeare applies to peace. (Coriolanus--Act 4. Scene the 5th.)
