Shared prosperity is measured as income growth among the bottom 40 percent of the income distribution in the population. The two goals should be achieved in a way that is sustainable from economic, social, and environmental perspectives. Shared Prosperity: Paving the Way in Europe and Central Asia focuses on the second goal and proposes a framework that integrates both macroeconomic and microeconomic elements. The macro variables, particularly changes in relative prices, affect income growth differentially along the income distribution; at the same time, the microeconomic distribution of assets at the bottom of the distribution determines the capacity of the bottom 40 to take advantage of the macroeconomic environment and contribute to overall growth. Growth and the incidence of growth are thus understood as jointly determined processes. Besides this integration, the main input of the framework is the finding that the trade-off between growth and equity may be an issue only in the short run. Over the long run, redistribution policies that increase the productive capacity of the bottom 40 percent enhance the overall growth potential of the economy. This report considers shared prosperity in Europe and Central Asia and concludes that the performance in sharing prosperity during the period 2000–10 was good, on average, but heterogeneous across countries and that sustainability is unclear. It also describes examples of the application of the framework to selected countries in the region. Finally, the report provides a tool to structure the policy discussion around the goal of shared prosperity and explains that specific policy links associated with the goal can be established only after a thorough analysis of the country-specific context.

That the preservation of biological diversity also requires global co operation has been confirmed by over 170 countries which have already acceded to the "Convention on Biological Diversity". It is thus an important task to provide the foundations for joint action. Germany, one of the largest source countries of international tourism, must feel particularly obligated in this regard. The report published here is the result of a research project com missioned by the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation. The study pursued and examined the thesis that the Convention on Biological Diversity be used as a central instrument for arriving at international principles and regulations for combining nature conservation and tourism which could lead to a sustainable development of tourism. To further the discussion, the authors brought the study to a logical conclusion by working out a proposal for a "tourism protocol" additional to the existing Convention on Biodiversity. Such a protocol additional to the Convention would entail the stipulation of internationally binding implementation and regulations for achieving sustainable tourism.

El proyecto "Implementación de un programa de investigación en accidentes de tránsito aplicando pruebas piloto de intervención en terreno, para el fortalecimiento de la seguridad vial en corredores críticos de accidentalidad vial del transporte público intermunicipal" (Mintransporte, Minciencias y SENA), donde se obtuvo el diseño de metodologías con aplicación de instrumentos técnicos para la implementación de pruebas pilotos que apoyaron la identificación de tramos de concentración de accidentes, con estrategias para incidir en su seguridad vial. El proyecto sobre la estructuración y creación del "Observatorio de seguridad vial del departamento de Boyacá" (ITBOY), que facilitó la creación de este organismo de recopilación-investigación-extensión, encargado de la gestión de bases de datos de accidentalidad, sus labores se concentraron en proyectos de seguridad vial con directrices y recomendaciones formuladas para informar al público, a las comunidades y a los entes legisladores, operadores y órganos responsables, así como para la aplicación de programas nacionales, regionales y locales con propósitos de disminución de los índices de accidentalidad. Finalmente, se suma el proyecto desarrollado para la Secretaría Distrital de Movilidad de Bogotá, que determinó la investigación de acciones para la actualización del manual de auditoría de seguridad vial.
