Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Centered on the practice of seeking rebirth in the Pure Land paradise Sukhāvatī, the Amitābha cult has been the dominant form of Buddhism in Korea since the middle of the Silla period (ca. 300–935). In Aspiring to Enlightenment, Richard McBride combines analyses of scriptural, exegetical, hagiographical, epigraphical, art historical, and literary materials to provide an episodic account of the cult in Silla times and its rise in an East Asian context through the mutually interconnected perspectives of doctrine and practice. McBride demonstrates that the Pure Land tradition emerging in Korea in the seventh and eighth centuries was vibrant and collaborative and that Silla monk-scholars actively participated in a shared, international Buddhist discourse. Monks such as the exegete par excellence Wŏnhyo and the Yogācāra proponent Kyŏnghŭng did not belong to a specific sect or school, but like their colleagues in China, they participated in a broadly inclusive doctrinal tradition. He examines scholarly debates surrounding the cults of Maitreya and Amitābha, the practice of buddhānusmṛti, the recollection of Amitābha, the “ten recollections” within the larger Mahāyāna context of the bodhisattva’s path of practice, the emerging Huayan intellectual tradition, and the influential interpretations of medieval Chinese Pure Land proponents Tanluan and Shandao. Finally, his work illuminates the legacy of the Silla Pure Land tradition, revealing how the writings of Silla monks continued to be of great value to Japanese monks for several centuries. With its fresh and comprehensive approach to the study of Pure Land Buddhism, Aspiring to Enlightenment is important for not only students and scholars of Korean history and religion and East Asian Buddhism, but also those interested in the complex relationship between doctrinal writings and devotional practice “on the ground.”

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most people live their entire lives not knowing that spiritual awakening and enlightenment are the birthright of every single human being ever born on this planet, and can be attained completely outside of orthodoxy and orthopraxy and in a single lifetime. No child in any modern society is taught that they are the best person to lead their own self-healing, awakening and enlightenment, nor are they freely provided with the tools that are available today to do so, the jagged pieces of which are clutched possessively in the hands of orthodoxies and orthopraxies around the world and throughout history. In his short and easy to read book, the author, who is a process specialist, sets out his interpretation of the processes, stages and likely results of spiritual awakening and enlightenment, in the spirit of adding his voice to growing calls and hopes for a planetary awakening. This seventy page book contains a collection of information including definitions, stages, symptoms, warnings and suggestions regarding awakening and enlightenment that the author has collected over the last three decades as well as from recent online scans. Most religious information originates in some way from the big five of religion Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam and Judaism), with some references to Sufism and Wicca. The main orthopraxy source was Buddha-Dharma, and the author has added supportive information throughout from well-known contemporary and historical minds.Everything was then filtered to remove any religious or organizational editorializing that orthodoxies and orthopraxies must weave into such information, so that what remains is simply information. From there, duplication was eliminated, relevant and common terms, definitions, stages and categories were merged, and modern language and contemporary research findings were added where available and relevant. Those seeking spiritual awakening and enlightenment still must forge their own path and do all the work, but understanding the processes occurring within can make the greatest ride in existence a touch smoother.

Book excerpt: “Goes through the entire gamut of topics covered by the Vedas, making use of yoga, detachment, the ego, karma, dharma, love, meditation and much more.” —East and West Magazine This complete guide to enlightenment presents the wisdom of the ancient science of self-inquiry, a time-tested means for achieving spiritual freedom. The author discusses the purpose of self-inquiry, the quest for lasting happiness, issues of identity and transcendence, the role of wisdom and action, and the subconscious obstacles to freedom. He convincingly refutes the popular view that enlightenment is a unique state of consciousness and debunks a host of other enlightenment myths. In his straightforward style he reveals proven methods for purifying the mind, and includes chapters on love, the science of energy transformation and meditation. He takes the reader from the beginning to the end of the spiritual path, patiently unfolding the logic of self-inquiry. “Vedanta is the original systemized enlightenment teaching, and James does an extraordinary job of extracting the essential nectar of the teachings from its dusty, ancient, Sanskrit origins and elucidating it with utmost clarity. One review cannot do this teaching, with its rich history and depth, even a modicum of justice. James’s book is the best introduction there is to this subject.” —Consciousness Junkie “Explains methods of Vedanta in his survey of spiritual techniques, pairing theory with practice and explaining the myths and realities behind an enlightened state. From reflections on moving to a larger living space and clutter to assimilating experiences, How to Attain Enlightenment is a powerful survey any new age library needs.” —The Bookwatch

This book was released on 2019-07 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essentiality I is the first book of the series that presents Essentiality, a Science of Spirituality and a Technology for Enlightenment. The author, Mycal, an enlightened being, explains the true nature of the Creator (God) and Her universe; exactly what is enlightenment; and how to achieve it quickly. Mycal explains all in concrete Western terms (as opposed to the vagueness of Eastern descriptions in Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism, Zen, etc.). In the Essentiality School of Accelerated Enlightenment, students achieve enlightenment in only 5 years while continuing their normal life. You are an individualization of Essence, a divine particle of the One, a spirit. You have created for yourself the illusion of only being human so you can incarnate inside the Human Matrix and immerse yourself in your Human Drama. Enlightenment is a permanent awakening to Who You Really Are, an immortal spirit, and to your perception of, and communication with, your Divine Essence. Your Shell: Your illusion of human being is a shell of energy that surrounds you-consciousness. It blocks your perception of the One Essence and generates your experience of human being. You-spirit are the creator of your shell. What you have created, you can discreate. Discreation of your shell is the fast path to enlightenment. The Essentiality Being Transformation Technology teaches you how to discreate it. The Human Adventure Game has 5 Stages: Evil, Drama, Awakening, Enlightenment, and Illumination. You-spirit come to Earth is to explore the polarity opposite of your Divine Essence of Love and Power. You are here to savor doing evil and being done to by evil, problems, struggle, conflict, failures, and drama. None of this can you experience being your True Divine Self. But eventually, you will tire of the Human Game, enter the Dark Night of the Old Soul, and want to Return to Essence. That is the time to seek out the Essentiality School. Book excerpt: Enlightenment Unfolds is a sequel to Kaz Tanahashi's previous collection, Moon in a Dewdrop, which has become a primary source on Dogen for Western Zen students. Dogen Zenji (1200–1253) is unquestionably the most significant religious figure in Japanese history. Founder of the Soto school of Zen (which emphasizes the practice of zazen or sitting meditation), he was a prolific writer whose works have remained popular for six hundred years. Enlightenment Unfolds presents even more of the incisive and inspiring writings of this seminal figure, focusing on essays from his great life work, Treasury of the True Dharma Eye, as well as poems, talks, and correspondence, much of which appears here in English for the first time. Tanahashi has brought together his own translations of Dogen with those of some of the most respected Zen teachers and writers of our own day, including Reb Anderson, Edward Espe Brown, Norman Fisher, Gil Fronsdal, Blanche Hartman, Jane Hirschfield, Daniel Leighton, Alan Senauke, Katherine Thanas, Mel Weitzman, and Michael Wenger.
