Book Principles of Tidal Sedimentology

Download or read book Principles of Tidal Sedimentology written by Richard A. Davis Jr. and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-10-20 with total page 622 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a comprehensive, contemporary review of tidal environments and deposits. Individual chapters, each written by world-class experts, cover the full spectrum of coastal, shallow-marine and even deep-marine settings where tidal action influences or controls sediment movement and deposition. Both siliciclastic and carbonate deposits are covered. Various chapters examine the dynamics of sediment transport by tides, and the morphodynamics of tidal systems. Several chapters explore the occurrence of tidal deposits in the stratigraphic context of entire sedimentary basins. This book is essential reading for both coastal geologists and managers, and geologists interested in extracting hydrocarbons from complex tidal successions.

Book Tidal Signatures in Modern and Ancient Sediments

Download or read book Tidal Signatures in Modern and Ancient Sediments written by B. W. Flemming and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-04-01 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This IAS Special Publication contains 23 papers presented at the 3rd International Research Symposium on Modern and Ancient Clastic Tidal Deposits. This symposium series has an enviable international reputation for its quality, and so the contributions represent the latest developments in the field. The conference was preceded and followed by a number of field trips to some of the most prominent tidal flat and barrier island systems of continental Europe, and these have been written up as overview papers that summarize the current state of knowledge about these various tidal regions. The latest research results from this very specialized field. Book Coastal Geology

    Book Details:
  • Author : Juan A. Morales
  • Publisher : Springer Nature
  • Release : 2022-03-18
  • ISBN : 3030961214
  • Pages : 463 pages

Download or read book Coastal Geology written by Juan A. Morales and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-03-18 with total page 463 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook shows all the existing knowledge about coastal geology and its implications for coastal management. In the last decades, the geological sciences have been supplying exciting information about the coastal systems, not only from its dynamics but also providing a sedimentary concept to understand and interpret the preserved coastal stratigraphical record. Furthermore, recent investigations have been focused on the prevention of coastal hazards like storms, tsunamis, or sea-level fluctuation. This discipline has an increasing interest after the expanding human activities around the coasts worldwide. The present trend is that many of the problems raised by the coast–human interaction must be resolved by using the Integrated Coastal Zone Management. The chapters of this book have a double-level structure. The first part of each chapter contains the necessary information for undergraduate courses studying coastal geology. The second part includes advanced information and examples to be used by graduate students and novel professionals.

Book Origin of the Dutch coastal landscape

Download or read book Origin of the Dutch coastal landscape written by Peter Vos and published by Barkhuis. This book was released on 2015-09-01 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The topic of this book is the Origin of the Dutch coastal landscape during the Holocene. The landscape evolution is vizualized in series of palaeogeographical maps and the driving mechanisms behind the environmental changes are discussed. The practice to make palaeogeographical map reconstructions in the Netherlands developed after the Second World War when a lot of regional geological and soil scientific mapping programs were carried out by government institutions and universities. These maps show when and how the surveyed sediments were formed. The palaeogeographical map reconstructions are subsequently used for the understanding and modelling of the long-term coastal evolution, coastal-management issues, landscape-archaeological purposes and for education and public information reasons. Geoarchaeological investigations play an important role in this study. Geological and palaeo-environmental data from archaeological excavations (‘key sites') provided essential information for the palaeolandscape reconstructions. In the presented regional- and local-case studies of this book, examples of these sites are shown.

Book Coastal Dynamics

Download or read book Coastal Dynamics written by Willem T Bakker and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2012-11-09 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our world is constantly changing, governed by continuity, dynamic interactions and boundary conditions. For many coasts, the common denominators contributing to these changes are sand, waves, tides, salt gradients, and human interaction, all themes that are treated in this valuable textbook.Confining itself to essentials, the coverage reflects centuries of theoretical and practical knowledge of Dutch coastal engineers. Focussing, where applicable, on linear theory, the book shows how the essentials of local coastal behavior can be reproduced and predicted.

Book The Physical Geography of Western Europe

Download or read book The Physical Geography of Western Europe written by Eduard A. Koster and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2005-05-19 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A distinguished team of Western European scholars has written an advanced, full-length physical geography designed to be a state-of -the-art evaluation of the physical environment of Western Europe, being both retrospective and prospective in its perception of environmental change. The unique natural and regional environments of Western Europe are discussed, as well as the physical geographic framework of the region. Particular emphasis is placed on the impact and responses of human society on the physical environment of the region which is characterized by a very high population density. As an enhanced reference work it will be of enduring value.

Book Muddy Coast Dynamics and Resource Management

Download or read book Muddy Coast Dynamics and Resource Management written by B.W. Flemming and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2000-12-08 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Muddy coasts are land-sea transitional environments commonly found along low-energy shorelines which either receive large annual supplies of muddy sediments, or where unconsolidated muddy deposits are being eroded by wave action. In providing 21 case studies in different parts of the world this book provides an up-to-date review of the state of the art in muddy coast research. Issues dealing with hydrodynamics and suspended matter transport, erosion, deposition, and sediment budgets on tidal flats, primary production, nutrient fluxes and mineralization in lagoons are treated in a multi disciplinary manner. Most articles deal with issues which are of relevance with respect to global warming and future sea level rise.

Book Terrigenous Clastic Depositional Systems

Download or read book Terrigenous Clastic Depositional Systems written by William E. Galloway and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 505 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nonrenewable energy resources, comprising fossil fuels and uranium, are not ran domly distributed within the Earth's crust. They formed in response to a complex array of geologic controls, notably the genesis of the sedimentary rocks that host most commercial energy resources. It is this genetic relationship between economic re sources and environment that forms the basis for this book. Our grouping of petro leum, coal, uranium, and ground water may appear to be incongruous or artificial. But our basic premise is that these ostensibly disparate resources share common genetic attributes and that the sedimentological principles governing their natural distributions and influencing their recovery are fundamentally similar. Our combined careers have focused on these four resources, and our experiences in projects worldwide reveal that certain recurring geologic factors are important in controlling the distribution of com mercial accumulations and subsurface fluid flow. These critical factors include the shape and stability of the receiving basin, the major depositional elements and their internal detail, and the modifications during burial that are brought about in these sediments by pressure, circulating fluids, heating, and chemical reaction. Since the first edition of this book in 1983, there has been a quantum leap in the volume of literature devoted to genetic stratigraphy and refinement of sedimentologi cal principles and a commensurate increase in the application of these concepts to resource exploration and development.
