This book was released on 1995 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Of the results of research and monitoring studies on contaminants in northern Canada, conducted under the auspices of the Green Plan's Arctic Environmental Strategy/Northern Contaminants Program. The studies cover sources and transport of contaminants; contamination of marine, freshwater, and terrestrial ecosystems; human exposure through diet and related health implications; communication and education of northern residents; and international initiatives addressing the global aspect of the problem. For each study, information is given on project leader and team, objective, rationale, description of study, activities in each of its operating years, and results.

Download or read book Deep Marine Systems written by Kevin T. Pickering and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-10-23 with total page 672 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Deep-water (below wave base) processes, although generallyhidden from view, shape the sedimentary record of more than 65% ofthe Earth’s surface, including large parts of ancientmountain belts. This book aims to inform advanced-levelundergraduate and postgraduate students, and professional Earthscientists with interests in physical oceanography and hydrocarbonexploration and production, about many of the important physicalaspects of deep-water (mainly deep-marine) systems. The authorsconsider transport and deposition in the deep sea, trace-fossilassemblages, and facies stacking patterns as an archive of theunderlying controls on deposit architecture (e.g., seismicity, climate change, autocyclicity). Topics include modern and ancientdeep-water sedimentary environments, tectonic settings, and howbasinal and extra-basinal processes generate the typicalcharacteristics of basin slopes, submarine canyons, contouritemounds and drifts, submarine fans, basin floors and abyssalplains.

Download or read book Scientific Results from JAPEX JNOC GSC Mallik 2L 38 Gas Hydrate Research Well Mackenzie Delta Northwest Territories Canada written by S. R. Dallimore and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Natural gas hydrate, a solid form of natural gas and water, occurs in nature in association with deep permafrost and in offshore environments adjacent to continental margins. This report presents results of a gas hydrate research well project located at the north-eastern edge of the Mackenzie Delta. The project brought together researchers from North America and Japan to undertake the first investigation of a natural gas hydrate occurrence beneath permafrost that included extensive dedicated coring and associated engineering and scientific studies. The report compiles papers from the project in the following categories: an overview of the project, including drilling operations; a regional overview of gas hydrate occurrences, permafrost conditions, and geology in the project area; geology and biostratigraphy of the drilled cores; physical properties and geochemistry of the cores; characteristics of the gas hydrate, including chemical and physical analyses; downhole geophysics; and regional gas hydrate occurrences, production, and climate change considerations. Includes author index.
