Book Sectoral Plans and Pilot Projects for Sustainable Development

Download or read book Sectoral Plans and Pilot Projects for Sustainable Development written by Juanjo Galan and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-01-01 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is volume 2 of a two-volume work. It discusses a set of ten sectoral plans about natural environment, agriculture and husbandry, urban environment and social welfare, infrastructures and mobility, cultural heritage, tourism and public use, landscape, sustainability, socio-demography, economic development and governance. The sectoral plans are accompanied by eighteen pilot projects that develop in detail their most sensitive or relevant parts. The book is intended for planners and researchers from various disciplines, including urban planning, forestry, agriculture, cultural and touristic management, and sustainability studies. The book presents a unique example of integral planning at different scales and across different types of landscapes found on the outskirts of metropolitan areas. It features a sustainability orientated integrated plan to maximise the performance of the south-central area of the Calderona Mountain Range, Spain (Sierra Calderona). It is informed and driven by social, cultural, perceptual, sustainability and economic factors supported by a participative process, acknowledging the frequent conflict between the natural and cultural values found there and the strong pressure for transformation and public use. Incorporating new methodologies and graphical systems for regional and local planning, it constitutes an example of balanced and multidisciplinary planning, based on principles of sustainability, system thinking, new governance and local adaptation.

Book Retiree Health Plans in the Public Sector

Download or read book Retiree Health Plans in the Public Sector written by Robert L. Clark and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While retiree health plans are a dying benefit in the private sector, all US states and many local governments extend health insurance coverage to their retired employees. This book is the first to thoroughly examine public sector health insurance plans. Retiree Health Plans in the Public Sector provides a detailed description of the current plans offered and compares how they vary across states. Health insurance is an important component of compensation in the public sector as it helps governments attract and retain quality workers and encourages timely retirement for career employees. Rapidly rising medical costs, an aging labor force, and an increasing number of retirees have dramatically increased the cost of providing this benefit. A central theme of this analysis is a presentation of the actuarial accrued liabilities, the unfunded liabilities and the annual required contribution of the employers based on the actuarial statements for retiree health plans. The authors alsoinvestigate why some states face major funding problems while the costs of other states? plans are much more manageable. Extensively researched and well-suited for classroom and professional use alike, academics in the fields of economics and public policy will find this an unmatched resource. So too will policymakers, economists, legislators, public sector union leaders and those invested in public sector healthcare.

Book Education Sector Plans and their Implementation in Developing Countries

Download or read book Education Sector Plans and their Implementation in Developing Countries written by Roy Carr-Hill and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-03-09 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the factors affecting the successful implementation of Education Sector Plans in developing countries. It provides a detailed comparison that draws on data from 27 countries to offer careful research conclusions and policy recommendations. Offering a detailed comparison of the schooling situation (e.g. availability of potable water and toilets, provision for the disabled) as well as educational outcomes (both test scores and percentages out-of-school) from the 27 countries using empirical evidence, the book examines the resources that have been invested in different education sectors, investigating the development and success of each plan. The volume uses correlation analysis to compare factors including the availability of government funding, national characteristics, ministerial decisions, influences of country and donor stakeholders, as well as district- and school-level issues. Thorough comparative analysis of the data is then demonstrated, with two measures of achievements to identify which factors can be considered as the most important in order to reach realistic policy and research conclusions. Timely and engaging, this book will be of great interest to researchers, scholars, and postgraduate students in the field of education and international development, comparative education, and international education more broadly.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jamaica is highly exposed to multiple natural hazards, including tropical cyclones, floods, and droughts. Jamaica ranks 47th out of 191 countries in the 2023 Inform Risk index.1 Jamaica suffers from damaging winds, rain, and storm surges, especially during the tropical cyclone season. Over the coming decades, Jamaica is expected to experience more heatwaves, more irregular rainfalls that bring heightened hazards of droughts or flooding, stronger tropical cyclones, and raising sea levels. Intensified climate hazards interact with socioeconomic vulnerability in Jamaica—since infrastructure, population and tourism activities are concentrated in the coastal areas—amplifying climate related costs to the country’s physical assets, population, and the broader economy.

Book Growth and Development Planning in India

Download or read book Growth and Development Planning in India written by K. L. Datta and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2020-11-30 with total page 459 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The debate around growth has been an important feature of economic planning in India since Independence. This book deals with the wide range of issues related to the country's growth and development between 1951 and 2011, covering the 11 Five Year Plans formulated and implemented during this period, as well as in the decade after that. The author traces the changing nature of planning over time-from rigid state control on economic activities, to reliance on market-based planning in the time of economic reforms. He has dealt with the transition from growth measures in the 1970s, to the use of a mix of growth and redistribution in the 1980s, and the economic reforms and liberalization measures from 1991 onwards, and the inclusive growth we have seen in the twenty-first century. The central theme of the book is to analyse the role that planning played in maximizing the rate of economic growth and in improving the living standards of the people. Considering India's rapidly changing socio-economic environment, many of the issues around growth and development are contentious. The author discusses them here with academic rigour and an insider's insight, thus enabling a fair assessment.
