Download or read book Secret Body written by Jeffrey J. Kripal and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2017-11-14 with total page 493 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This latest work by the renowned historian of religions Jeffrey Kripal crystallizes his twenty-five years of work on two aspects of the contemporary study of religion: the erotic expression of mystical experience and the rise of the paranormal in American culture. Combining elements of memoir, manifesto, and anthology (a Kripal Reader, as it were), Secret Body reveals Kripal's oeuvre not as a series of disconnected books but as a dynamic corpus with the potential to renew and reshape the study of religion. Kripal explains how this oeuvre came about with his trademark humor and honesty, answers his censors and critics, and lays the foundation for a future theory of religion grounded in the cosmic nature of consciousness as such. No one interested in the history of religion and the erotic dimension of mysticism can afford to overlook Kripal's latest, his definitive intellectual self-portrait.

Book The Greatest Treachery in Human History

Download or read book The Greatest Treachery in Human History written by Daniel Harran and published by Austin Macauley Publishers. This book was released on 2023-06-23 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The initial goal of this book was to discover the ultimate purpose and meaning behind the abductions of human beings into UFOs—the alarming reality of which is still hardly known to the public. But as this study developed, it led to a series of revelations which brought us to an unexpected interpretation of this phenomenon. Indeed, it became all too obvious that there was a connection between these abductions and the absurd path that today’s human society is taking. More and more measures are being implemented that are threatening the health, well-being, and freedom of human beings the world over under the guise of ‘security’ purposes. Those responsible for this are not only our leaders, but occult forces--which are exposed in this book. We were therefore led to unveil what we can indeed refer to as the “greatest treachery in human history”: extremely powerful dark forces have been acting on Earth for a very long time unbeknownst to our population. These forces, identified in this book, are directly interfering in the governance of our world and are directly opposed to the harmonious evolution of Humankind, putting us all in grave danger. This book sheds an unprecedented new light on how this all relates to the tragic events Humanity has been going through since 2020.

Book Cosmos and Image in the Renaissance

Download or read book Cosmos and Image in the Renaissance written by Kathryn Banks and published by MHRA. This book was released on 2008 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Renaissance images could be real as well as linguistic. Human beings were often believed to be an image of the cosmos, and the sun an image of God. With Cosmos and Image in the Renaissance, Kathryn Banks explores the implications of this for poetic language and argues that linguistic images were a powerful tool for rethinking cosmic conceptions. She reassesses the role of natural-philosophical poetry in France, focusing upon its most well-known and widely-read exponent, Guillaume de Saluste Du Bartas. Through a sustained analysis of Maurice Sceve's delie, Banks also rethinks love lyric's oft-noted use of the beloved as image of the poet. Cosmos and Image makes an original contribution to our understanding of Renaissance thinking about the cosmic, the human, and the divine. It also proposes a mode of reading other Renaissance texts, and reflects at length upon the relation of 'literature' to history, to the history of science, and to political turmoil.

Download or read book Reading Communities written by Oana Panaïté and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2016-08-17 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is the product of a long-term collaboration between French and American scholars who share a common preoccupation with reading canonical and contemporary works of literature and cinema in a theoretical and pedagogical context. It offers a multipolar approach, informed by different historical, thematic, aesthetic, philosophical and formal perspectives, that allows for a more complete and nuanced understanding of the complex relations between artists and works commonly separated by disciplinary boundaries. The chapters cover a variety of literary genres and artistic forms such as the novel (Madame de Lafayette, Gustave Flaubert, André Weckmann, Ahmadou Kourouma, Calixthe Beyala, and Amélie Nothomb), poetry (Charles Baudelaire), theater (Aimé Césaire, Anne Hébert), the aphorism (Blaise Pascal), the essay (André Breton), the manifesto (Émile Zola), and film (François Truffaut, Ousmane Sembène), while also drawing parallels to works in other languages such as English and German in order to highlight the translingual and intercultural dimensions of the artistic process.

Book Life Creative Mimesis of Emotion

Download or read book Life Creative Mimesis of Emotion written by Anna-Teresa Tymieniecka and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are emotions, feelings, sentiments not the stuff of literature? That is where they project their 'inner logic' of aesthetic transmutation; there, beyond the instrument of language that they command. This collection explores how the lyrical virtualities of life-experience and the elegiac style in literature share a common core, lifting the human significance of life from abysmal vitality to esoteric heights, from abysmal grief to a serene reconciliation with destiny. The 'elegiac sequence' in the play of emotions, feelings, sentiments brings together life and literary creativity in its transformatory power. With papers by A. Giuculescu, John McGraw, R. Ellis, A. Carillo Canán, B. Watson, S. Bindeman, R.J. Wilson, L. Kimmel, B. Prochaska, T. Raczka, Chr. Eykman, J.S. Smith, G. Scheper, S. Feshbach, I. Vayl, H. Rudnick and others.
