Download or read book Time and Eternity written by Brian Leftow and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2018-09-05 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Brian Leftow makes an important contribution to the longstanding debate among philosophers and theologians about the nature of God's eternity. The author develops a powerful and original defense of the notion that God is eternal in that he exists timelessly; that is, that though God exists, he does not exist at any time. Leftow defends the claim that a timeless God can be an object of human experience, and he attempts to delineate the extent of such a God's omniscience. Finally, the author pays special attention to the relation between the claim that God is timeless and the claim that God is metaphysically simple.

Download or read book Growing Old written by Danielle Quinodoz and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-05-22 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: People react very differently to the process of ageing. Some people shy away from old age for as long as they can and eventually spend it reflecting on times when they were physically and mentally stronger and more independent. For others old age is embraced as a new adventure and something to look forward to. In this book psychoanalyst Danielle Quinodoz highlights the value of old age and the fact that although many elderly people have suffered losses, either of their own good health or through bereavement, most have managed to retain the most important thing – their sense of self. Quinodoz argues that growing old provides us with the opportunity to learn more about ourselves and instead of facing it with dread, it should be celebrated. Divided into accessible chapters this book covers topics including: the internal life-history remembering phases of life anxiety about death being a psychoanalyst and growing old. Throughout Growing Old the author draws on both her clinical experience of working with the elderly, and her own personal experience of growing old. This makes it an interesting read for both practising psychoanalysts, and those who wish to gain a greater insight of the natural progression into later life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. Bassali has searched the Scriptures to find what they say about eternity and its two destinies - heaven and hell. He presents his findings in a readable, Scripture-based, practical, instructive, and exhilarating fashion. His book is a must for all those who wish to know how to keep out of the lake of fire and spend an eternity of bliss, light, and glory with Christ. The author declares clearly the basic doctrines of the Gospel to a generation wandering in theological confusion. He reaches out to the millions of nominal Christians and to the more than four billion outside of Christianity, showing them the way to God. This is a Christ-centered book. It reveals that the key to heaven is a genuine, honest, and heartfelt relationship with the blessed Person of Jesus Christ - the only One who can save and the only way to God. Dr. Maurice Bassali is a retired physician who lives with his wife Margaret in Manalapan, Florida. He belongs to the assembly of Plymouth Brethren in nearby Lake Worth. Dr. Bassali is a devout Christian who loves the Lord and invests his time in searching the Holy Scriptures and writing Christian books and articles. He has authored two other books with Xulon Press: Praise: The Door to God's Presence, and Destined for Glory. He is also the author of Medicine For The Soul (Carlton Press, 1987) and The God of Jacob (Believers Bookshelf, 2007). Download or read book God Eternity and the Nature of Time written by Alan Padgett and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2000-06-16 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the timelessness of God, providing a detailed analysis of the nature of time and eternity. Padgett offers a biblical and historical survey of the doctrine of eternity, rejecting both theories of eternity being both 'timeless' and 'everlasting'. Padgett argues that traditionally the doctrine of absolute divine timelessness is not compatible with God's actions in the world. ÒGod is in some sense temporal, yet He is the ground of time, the Lord of time and is 'relatively' timeless.
Download or read book Meditations of an Exile written by Tom Reidy and published by TOM REIDY. This book was released on 2012-12-03 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Meditations of an Exile is a collection of essays on a wide variety of unique religious topics, some of which have rarely been covered anywhere else. These include: why the Roman Empire and slavery are not condemned in Scripture; seeming conflict between the two natures of Christ; intriguing parallels between the history of Biblical Israel that reflect in reverse the past, present, and possible future of Christianity; why the modern state of Israel is not the Israel foretold in Biblical prophecy; the Eternal Design; why the Church tolerates and even supports pro-abortion politicians; why evangelization will not work in the West; who were the "giants" so often referred to in the Old Testament; is it evident from Scripture that intelligent life does not exist beyond earth? Meditations concludes with a commentary on the passion and death of Jesus that analyzes why the Jewish authorities arrested Jesus in the way they did and why the Romans never considered Jesus a political threat even after Palm Sunday.

Download or read book The Judgment of Love written by James M. Matarazzo Jr and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2018-10-19 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book seeks to explore the concept of divine judgment in Christian eschatology. It contends that this judgment is salvific rather than destructive. This notion can be described aphoristically as iudicandus est salvandus ("to be judged is to be saved"). The provocation to Christian eschatology is that human beings are not saved from judgment, but are saved within it. The exploration begins defining the context and moves into a review of the symbols and problems of judgment through a reappraisal of De novissimis ("concerning the last things"), the last section found in traditional works of Christian dogmatics. This is followed by a critical engagement with the soteriological optimism posited by four twentieth- and twenty-first century theologians: Sergei Bulgakov, Hans Urs von Balthasar, J. A. T. Robinson, and Marilyn McCord Adams. The event of the judgment is then defined as the event of absolute recognition: that it is within the eschatic recognition of God, the self, and the other that transformation and glorification of human persons occur in a way that avoids a dual outcome of salvation and damnation. The book concludes by proposing that we may approach divine judgment with faith, hope, and love--not only for ourselves, but for the human race as a whole.
Download or read book Time Twilight and Eternity written by Thom Rock and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2017-05-25 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ancient rhythm of night becoming day becoming night again has always set the tempo of our everyday lives. The daily spin and tilt of the Earth rules our clocks and calendars as well as our human bodies. Yet our minutes and hours and days all too often slip away completely unnoticed. For generations and cultures around the globe and across the ages, though, the moments surrounding sunrise and sunset have been noticeable exceptions: believers and seekers have long gathered in the gloaming to pause and reflect on the notion that the sacred unfolds, if it unfolds anywhere, in ordinary time. In Time, Twilight, and Eternity, Thom Rock explores the rich tradition of that unfolding, not only through the physics and optics of any twilight hour or rising or setting sun, but also through the whispered prayers of so many faith traditions. An unforgettable journey through the mysteries and wonders of dusk and dawn--as well as the extraordinary gifts of common prayer, ordinary time, and everyday grace--this poetic and evocative work is ultimately about our own rising and setting . . . and rising again; the daily practice of resurrection and fully inhabiting our lives here and now.
