Book excerpt: Excerpt from Secondary Degenerations of the Spinal Cord It being well proved that the ultimate nerve fibres do not anastomose with one another, but continue their course distinct and separate from their peripheral to their central extremity, we have {a reliable method of studying each individual nerve throughout its passage along the cord, as well as of investigating its relations to the central ganglia, by carefully observing the altera tions which are secondary to primary lesions of the nerve, tissue. Book The Finer Histological Changes in the Traumatic Degenerations of the Spinal Cord Following Bullet Wounds of the Cord Substance Or Shock to the Vertebral Column Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Finer Histological Changes in the Traumatic Degenerations of the Spinal Cord Following Bullet Wounds of the Cord Substance Or Shock to the Vertebral Column Classic Reprint written by Aubrey Mussen and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-27 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Finer Histological Changes in the Traumatic Degenerations of the Spinal Cord, Following Bullet Wounds of the Cord Substance, or Shock to the Vertebral Column On the opposite side a small localised disturbance situated on either side of a septum shows in a remarkable manner the effects of the concussion. (fig. 2 enlarged from A in Fig. Nerve fibres in various stages of degeneration are shown. In some instances the axis cylinders are only slightly swollen, and fill up completely their place in the sheath. In others they are larger and show minute deeply staining granules, and between the axis cylinder and the sheath there is frequently a large clear space due partly to the oedema, but principally to the falling out of the disintegrated myelin. In Fig. 3 one very large fibre is shown (300 diameters). In the centre of the fibre is the swollen axis cylinder, and this is surrounded by the degenerating myelin. Some debris partly fills the space around this mass. The whole is enclosed by glia structure, which is thicker than normal, and is broken in several places. Lying in the centre of the mass over the axis cylinder is a glia cell. The dark staining granules are probably fat. This condition of the fibre represents one of the stages in the formation of the myeloclast. Besides these changes in the fibres the glia also shows some interesting developments. As has already been mentioned there are numerous open spaces scattered through the section where the nerve fibre has fallen out. These spaces are surrounded by a glia structure which had previously formed the sheath of the nerve. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Diseases of the Spinal Cord Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Diseases of the Spinal Cord Classic Reprint written by Byrom Bramwell and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-09 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Diseases of the Spinal Cord In the following pages, which are based on a portion of my course of Lectures on Medicine, I have endeavoured to give a concise description of the more important points relating to the Diseases of the Spinal Cord. In some places the original form is retained, but for the most part I have, for the sake of condensation, abandoned the colloquial style of the lecture-room, and in many places arranged the matter in the form of headings. Believing that one great secret of all successful teaching is to teach by the eye as well as by the ear, I am in the habit of copiously illustrating my lectures by diagrams, drawings, and microscopical preparations. The diagrams and drawings are introduced into the text in the form of woodcuts, the microscopical sections are represented in colours. The chromo-lithographs are all drawn by myself, first with the camera lucida, and then in lithograph chalk; they are with two exceptions (figures 56 and 151, which are copied from Charcot) representations of my own sections. Book Retrograde Degeneration in the Spinal Nerves

Download or read book Retrograde Degeneration in the Spinal Nerves written by S. Walter Ranson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-07 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Retrograde Degeneration in the Spinal Nerves: A Dissertation Submitted to the Faculty of the Ogden Graduate School of Science in Candidacy Foe the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy In studying the literature on retrograde degeneration in the spinal nerves, it was found convenient to arrange the results of the difierent investigators in tabular form, placing the changes found in the various parts of the nervous system in separate columns under the following headings: central stumps of the severed nerves, ventral roots, dorsal roots, spinal ganglia, the spinal cord in general, the ventral horns and motor cells, the dorsal horns and the dorsal funiculi. In this way were tabulated the changes found in sixty-nine autopsies upon cases of more or less long standing amputation. In a separate table of the same kind were summar ized the changes observed by eighteen different investigators who had carried out experimental amputation and nerve resection in animals. When these tables were completed, it was possible to compare the results of the difierent investigators and see what changes were constant in any part of the nervous system. It is with reference to these tables that the following has been written, and for this reason it has been possible to make accurate, but at the same time very general, statements. Download or read book Musculoskeletal Diseases 2021 2024 written by Juerg Hodler and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book focuses on imaging of the musculoskeletal diseases. Over the last few years, there have been considerable advances in this area, driven by clinical as well as technological developments. The authors are all internationally renowned experts in their field. They are also excellent teachers, and provide didactically outstanding chapters. The book is disease-oriented and covers all relevant imaging modalities, with particular emphasis on magnetic resonance imaging. Important aspects of pediatric imaging are also included. IDKD books are completely re-written every four years. As a result, they offer a comprehensive review of the state of the art in imaging. The book is clearly structured with learning objectives, abstracts, subheadings, tables and take-home points, supported by design elements to help readers easily navigate through the text. As an IDKD book, it is particularly valuable for general radiologists, radiology residents, and interventional radiologists who want to update their diagnostic knowledge, and for clinicians interested in imaging as it relates to their specialty.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Universal Medical Journal, 1894, Vol. 2: A Monthly Magazine of the Progress of Every Branch of Medicine in All Parts of the World Dr. Sottas, speaking of retrograde degeneration of the anterior pyra mids, remarked that in four cases of transverse lesions of the Spinal cord, of syphilitic origin, in which. He had had occasion to observe, he had found, together with the classic secondary degeneration, an ascending degeneration of the anterior pyramids. This does not appear to be connected with a destructive process of the funicular cells of the gray substance, but with a retrograde degeneration - a fact already supported by experimental anatomy. Dr. Henry fraenkel reports some experiments upon animals, in which, after the injection of urine into the veins, he has observed in certain cases that some urines possess antidiuretic properties.
