Book Searching Ashes for Burning Embers

Download or read book Searching Ashes for Burning Embers written by Olin Joseph Tunnell and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2008-05-23 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Olin Tunnel's journalistic curiosity led him in many directions. He drove to a secluded rural Ku Klux Klan meeting on a night in the 1950's and risked taking notes by flashlight while robed Klansmen were speaking and burning crosses. Later he recalls posing as a homeless vagrant at various Salvation Army lodges. He also admits sneaking into a CBS network rehearsal wearing dark glasses and carrying a clipboard. He shares a unique style of expression through stories, reflections and poetry. Writing for as long as he remembers, he brings humor, inspiration and insight from over seven decades of living. In spite of chronic childhood asthma that continued into high school and almost prevented graduation, he became an Eagle Scout, ordained United Methodist Minister, speech and drama teacher, and a school social worker. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Texas Wesleyan University and a Master of Divinity Degree from Emory University. He is a Texas Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Chemical Dependency Counselor.

Book An Australian Search Party

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In my former narrative I described our exploration of the Herbert River, lying at the south end of Rockingham Channel, with its fruitless issue; and I now take up the thread of my story from that point, thinking it can hardly fail to be of interest to the reader, not only as regards the wild nature of the country traversed, but also as showing the anxiety manifested by the inhabitants of these remote districts to clear up the fate of their unhappy brethren. I may also here mention, for the information of such of my readers as may not have read the preceding portions of the narrative, that Cardwell is the name of a small township situated on the shores of Rockingham Bay; and that Townsville is a settlement some hundred miles further south, known also as Cleveland Bay.

Book Gave a am Or On the Track of the Cow And In Search of the Mysterious Word And In Search of the Hidden Light

Download or read book Gave a am Or On the Track of the Cow And In Search of the Mysterious Word And In Search of the Hidden Light written by Sebastian J. Carri and published by Otto Harrassowitz Verlag. This book was released on 2000 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gavesanam deals with the Vedic discourse on many levels. It is mostly with the Rgvedic and the Yajurvedic texts, that is, with the hymns and the ritual texts, that it does so. The work shows a search for an insight into the highly cultivated poetic mind of the Rsis, which displays mystery and myth, knowledge and secrecy in their creations. The first two chapters illustrate with some clarity the method which is adopted in order to come to grips with a few of the symbolic and metaphorical, mythic and ritualistic texts and lays the foundation for the rest of the essay. The approach is interpretive and, therefore, necessarily speculative. In the main, the procedure is neither classificatory nor descriptive of the texts, since many scholars have done excellent work in this manner. The present exercise highlights the importance of the Vedic Ida, the Vedic World, the Vedic gods and goddesses like the Mitravaruna, Agni, Vak, Visnu, Sarasvat, Soma, and so on, from an interpretive point of view. A few figures make comprehension easier and more concrete. The work as a whole may be considered to be a long essay of progressive approximations, which means that the thoughts that are presented have to be corrected and complemented by further approximations in a truly academic and scientific spirit. Such an effort opens a new way for a better understanding and appreciation of the Vedic and the post-Vedic literature and culture.
