Book Searches for the Baryon and Lepton number Violating Decays B 0 rightarrow Lambda c ell B rightarrow Lambda ell and B rightarrow bar Lambda ell

Download or read book Searches for the Baryon and Lepton number Violating Decays B 0 rightarrow Lambda c ell B rightarrow Lambda ell and B rightarrow bar Lambda ell written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Searches for B mesons decaying to final states containing a baryon and a lepton are performed, where the baryon is either [Lambda]{sub c} or [Lambda] and the lepton is a muon or an electron. These decays violate both baryon and lepton number and would be a signature of physics beyond the standard model. No significant signal is observed in any of the decay modes, and upper limits in the range (3.2 - 520) x 10−8 are set on the branching fractions at the 90% confidence level.

Book Search for Baryon number and Lepton number Violating Decays of Lambda Hyperons Using the CLAS Detector at Jefferson Laboratory

Download or read book Search for Baryon number and Lepton number Violating Decays of Lambda Hyperons Using the CLAS Detector at Jefferson Laboratory written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present a search for ten baryon-number violating decay modes of $\Lambda$ hyperons using the CLAS detector at Jefferson Laboratory. Nine of these decay modes result in a single meson and single lepton in the final state ($\Lambda \rightarrow m \ell$) and conserve either the sum or the difference of baryon and lepton number ($B \pm L$). The tenth decay mode ($\Lambda \rightarrow \bar{p}\pi^+$) represents a difference in baryon number of two units and no difference in lepton number. We observe no significant signal and set upper limits on the branching fractions of these reactions in the range $(4-200)\times 10^{-7}$ at the $90\%$ confidence level.

Book Evidence for B Semileptonic Decays Into the Lambda c Charm Baryon

Download or read book Evidence for B Semileptonic Decays Into the Lambda c Charm Baryon written by and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present the first evidence for B semileptonic decays into the charmed baryon [Lambda]{sub c} based on 420 fb−1 of data collected at the [Upsilon](4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II ee− storage rings. Events are tagged by fully reconstructing one of the B mesons in a hadronic decay mode. We measure the relative branching fraction [Beta]({bar B} 2![Lambda]{sub c}+ Xl−{bar {nu}}{sub {ell}})/[Beta]({bar B} 2![Lambda]{sub c}+/{bar {Lambda}}{sub c}−X) = (3.2 ± 0.9{sub stat.} ± 0.9{sub syst.})%. The significance of the signal including the systematic uncertainty is 4.9 standard deviations.

Book Rare Exclusive Dileptonic and Radiative Decays of Lambda subscript B Baryons in a Quark Model

Download or read book Rare Exclusive Dileptonic and Radiative Decays of Lambda subscript B Baryons in a Quark Model written by Lonnie James Mott and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ABSTRACT: Hadronic form factors for the rare weak transitions [Lambda][subscript b] [rightarrow] [Lambda][superscript (*)] are calculated using a nonrelativistic quark model. The form factors are extracted in two ways. An analytic extraction using single component wave functions (SCA) with the quark current being reduced to its nonrelativistic Pauli form is employed in the first method. In the second method, the form factors are extracted numerically using the full quark model wave function (MCN) with the full relativistic form of the quark current. Both sets of form factors are found to satisfy the relationships expecetd from the heavy quark effective theory (HQET). Differential decay rates, branching ratios and forward-backward asymmetries (FBAs) are calculated for the dileptonic decays [Lambda][subscript b][rightarrow] [Lambda][superscript (*)][ell]+[ell]-, for transitions to both ground state and excited daughter baryons. Inclusion of the long distance contributions from charmonium resonances significantly enhances the decay rates. It is found that in the MCN model the [Lambda](1600) mode is the dominant mode in the [mu] channel when charmonium resonances are considered; the [Lambda](1520) mode is also found to have a comparable branching ratio to that of the ground state in the [mu] channel. It has been found that the FBAs for decays to [Lambda](1115), [Lambda](1600) and [Lambda](1405) are less sensitive to the form of the form factors in certain kinematic regions.

Book Search for The Lambda Sub B Baryon at CDF

Download or read book Search for The Lambda Sub B Baryon at CDF written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The?{sub b} baryon has been observed recently by UA1 through its decay?{sub b} → J/??°. Although CDF finds twice as many J/? and observes?° decays, no evidence for an?{sub b} signal is seen. The UA1 data supports a lower than expected production P{sub T} for the?{sub b}, and therefore, a lower pion P{sub T}, below the observation threshold of CDF. This result suggests that UA1 and CDF are probably not inconsistent, but also that the production models are not quite right.

Book Determination of the Branching Fraction for B Rightarrow X sub C Ell Nu Decays and of verticalV sub Cb vertical from Hadronic Mass and Lepton Energy Moments

Download or read book Determination of the Branching Fraction for B Rightarrow X sub C Ell Nu Decays and of verticalV sub Cb vertical from Hadronic Mass and Lepton Energy Moments written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We determine the inclusive B [yields] X[sub c][ell][nu] branching fraction, [Beta][sub c[ell][nu]], the CKM matrix element V[sub cb], and other heavy-quark parameters from a simultaneous fit to moments of the hadronic-mass and lepton-energy distributions in semileptonic B-meson decays, measured as a function of the lower limit on the lepton energy, using data recorded with the BABAR detector. Using Heavy Quark Expansions (HQEs) to order 1/m[sub b][sup 3], we extract [Beta][sub ce[nu]] = (10.61 [+-] 0.16[sub exp] [+-] 0.06[sub HQE])% and V[sub cb] = (41.4 [+-] 0.4[sub exp] [+-] 0.4[sub HQE] [+-] 0.6[sub th]) x 10[sup -3]. The stated errors refer to the experimental, HQE, and additional theoretical uncertainties.

Book The Composite Nambu Goldstone Higgs

Download or read book The Composite Nambu Goldstone Higgs written by Giuliano Panico and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-11-17 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Hierarchy Problem is arguably the most important guiding principle concerning the extension to high-energy scales of the Standard Model (SM) of Fundamental Interactions. Every scenario for addressing this issue unavoidably predicts new physics in the TeV energy range, which is currently being probed directly by the LHC experimental program. Among the possible solutions to the Hierarchy Problem, the scenario of a composite Higgs boson is a very simple idea and a rather plausible picture has emerged over the years by combining the following ingredients: First, the Higgs must be a (pseudo-) Nambu-Goldstone boson, rather than a generic hadron of the new strong sector. Second, through the so-called ‘partial compositeness’, SM particles mix with strong sector resonances with suitable quantum numbers, so that they become a linear combination of elementary and composite degrees of freedom. Recently, general descriptions of the Composite Higgs Scenario were developed which successfully capture the relevant features of this theoretical framework in a largely model-independent way. The present book provides a concise and illustrative introduction to the subject for a broad audience of graduate students and non-specialist researchers in the fields of particle, nuclear and gravitational physics.
