Book Static Stability of Seaplane Floats and Hulls

Download or read book Static Stability of Seaplane Floats and Hulls written by Walter Stuart Diehl and published by . This book was released on 1924 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the important factors in seaplane design is the stability at rest on the water. Ordinarily this is secuted by basing a new design on the proportions followed in some old and successful design. Sufficient data has been compiled from various sources to clear up this point in each of the cases requiring study. These cases are lateral and longitudinal stability of twin floats, longitudinal stability of single floats, and lateral stability where wing tip floats are used (as with a single main float or boat hull). The longitudinal stability of boat hulls is so great that it may be neglected. The method followed in the case of single and twin engine floats is to obtain a satisfactory approximation to the metacentric height and study the values actually used in successful designs.

Book Designing Seaplane Hulls and Floats

Download or read book Designing Seaplane Hulls and Floats written by and published by . This book was released on 1926 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental data, such as the results of tank tests of models, render it possible to predict, at least in principle, as to how a hull or float of a given shape will comport itself. We will see further along, however, how uncertain these methods are and how they leave room for empiricism, which will reign for a long time yet in seaplane research bureaus.

Book General Aviation Aircraft Design

Download or read book General Aviation Aircraft Design written by Snorri Gudmundsson and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2013-09-03 with total page 1058 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Find the right answer the first time with this useful handbook of preliminary aircraft design. Written by an engineer with close to 20 years of design experience, General Aviation Aircraft Design: Applied Methods and Procedures provides the practicing engineer with a versatile handbook that serves as the first source for finding answers to realistic aircraft design questions. The book is structured in an "equation/derivation/solved example" format for easy access to content. Readers will find it a valuable guide to topics such as sizing of horizontal and vertical tails to minimize drag, sizing of lifting surfaces to ensure proper dynamic stability, numerical performance methods, and common faults and fixes in aircraft design. In most cases, numerical examples involve actual aircraft specs. Concepts are visually depicted by a number of useful black-and-white figures, photos, and graphs (with full-color images included in the eBook only). Broad and deep in coverage, it is intended for practicing engineers, aerospace engineering students, mathematically astute amateur aircraft designers, and anyone interested in aircraft design. - Organized by articles and structured in an "equation/derivation/solved example" format for easy access to the content you need - Numerical examples involve actual aircraft specs - Contains high-interest topics not found in other texts, including sizing of horizontal and vertical tails to minimize drag, sizing of lifting surfaces to ensure proper dynamic stability, numerical performance methods, and common faults and fixes in aircraft design - Provides a unique safety-oriented design checklist based on industry experience - Discusses advantages and disadvantages of using computational tools during the design process - Features detailed summaries of design options detailing the pros and cons of each aerodynamic solution - Includes three case studies showing applications to business jets, general aviation aircraft, and UAVs - Numerous high-quality graphics clearly illustrate the book's concepts (note: images are full-color in eBook only)

Book A Correlation of the Dimensions Proportions and Loadings of Existing Seaplane Floats and Flying Boat Hulls

Download or read book A Correlation of the Dimensions Proportions and Loadings of Existing Seaplane Floats and Flying Boat Hulls written by Fred W. S. Locke and published by . This book was released on 1943 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The design of most machines is a series of compromises, and seaplanes and flying boats are no exception. It is the purpose of this study to determine as far as possible what loadings and proportions have been arrived at by designers, and what, if any, interrelations exist between the loadings and proportions. It is believed that the study may be useful for reference. It should be remembered that differences between the designs considered are in part determined by differing requirements and that the designs are not all of equal merit.
