Book Now My Eyes Have Seen You

Download or read book Now My Eyes Have Seen You written by Robert Fyall and published by InterVarsity Press. This book was released on 2002-07-15 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Now my eyes have seen you." (Job 42:5) Few biblical texts are more daunting, and yet more fascinating, than the book of Job—and few have been the subject of such diverse interpretation. For Robert Fyall, the mystery of God's ways and the appalling evil and suffering in the world are at the heart of Job's significant contribution to the canon of Scripture. This New Studies in Biblical Theology volume offers a holistic reading of Job, with particular reference to its depiction of creation and evil, and finds significant clues to its meaning in the striking imagery it uses. Fyall takes seriously the literary and artistic integrity of the book of Job, as well as its theological profundity. He concludes that it is not so much about suffering per se as about creation, providence and knowing God, and how—n the crucible of suffering—these are to be understood. He encourages us to listen to this remarkable literature, to be moved by it, and to see its progress from shrieking protest to repentence and vision. Addressing key issues in biblical theology, the works comprising New Studies in Biblical Theology are creative attempts to help Christians better understand their Bibles. The NSBT series is edited by D. A. Carson, aiming to simultaneously instruct and to edify, to interact with current scholarship and to point the way ahead.

Book Sea Through My Eyes

Download or read book Sea Through My Eyes written by Dr. Sonal Bhatia and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2021-08-19 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I married a sailor to put an end to my spinsterhood, but it was not an ordinary marital knot. On marrying him came along isolation, distance, pain, sacrifices and unconditional love. I bid him a safe voyage every time and waited days and months for his safe homecomings. Juggling with dual responsibilities of the family, maintaining the symbolic status of being a sailor’s wife, I take pride in the applets on his shoulder. I take pride to be his queen, and like me, there are millions of queens around the globe who wear a silent crown of compassion, courage and optimism. This memoir is my journey to the unknown world of unsung heroes working at sea, experiencing the terror which I came across while sailing: from a harrowing passage of Somalia to accidents that happened on board when the ship sailed in ferocious storms and deserted ports of call, the gruelling daily routine and dedication for work at the mercy of nature which changed my perspective and refute the myths about sailors. It is my journey to the floating world. A world that runs the major trades with no expectations or recognition. These sailors work in silence and retire in silence. Yes, it is the life of The Merchant Navy.

Book A Look Through My Eyes

Download or read book A Look Through My Eyes written by Dawn Vandenberg and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2012-11 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book begins with the story of a young boy, Rem Vandenberg, who was born in 1937 in the Netherlands just before the onslaught of the Second World War. His youth was a struggle to exist under the German occupation and in combating the depravation of poverty. Added to these hardships was the ongoing personal battle he fought daily in accepting the doctrines of the Roman Catholic Church which were heavily imposed on him by the uncompromising adult belief of the time. His authoritarian father loaded with the responsibility of caring for the large family was staunch in upholding his strong principles and instilling them into his children. Of a less serious nature and with a strong desire to be free of the bonds restricting him from freedom of expression and thought Rem was often on the punitive end of the disciple rod, both at school and home. Opposing this oppression was the endless love and compassion of his mother, who through the strength of her faith, was able to engulf the whole family under her mantle of love and bind them together into a caring family unit. At a young age Rem had to begin work to help support the family. What he was expected to do for a few cents per week was beyond the capability of this small undernourished lad. His father insisted on strength of character and allowed him to be pushed to the limit of his endurance. Held by the love of his family but tormented with the urge to be free of restrictions Rem finally took his life in his own hands. At the age of sixteen driven by the spirit of adventure he left home and joined the merchant navy. His first voyage was on a whaling ship to the South Pole which was followed by voyages throughout the world for the next few years. On sailing into his first Australian port his desire to stay in Australia took over. He jumped ship and went inland where he took a job on the railway. After six months as gang worker he was finally picked up by the law and experienced a short jail sentence before being deported back to Holland. His love for Australia was strong and within two years he returned as a legal migrant and still lives in his beloved land today.

Book A Very Large Expanse of Sea

Download or read book A Very Large Expanse of Sea written by Tahereh Mafi and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2018-10-16 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Longlisted for the National Book Award for Young People's Literature! From the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the Shatter Me series comes a powerful, heartrending contemporary novel about fear, first love, and the devastating impact of prejudice. It’s 2002, a year after 9/11. It’s an extremely turbulent time politically, but especially so for someone like Shirin, a sixteen-year-old Muslim girl who’s tired of being stereotyped. Shirin is never surprised by how horrible people can be. She’s tired of the rude stares, the degrading comments—even the physical violence—she endures as a result of her race, her religion, and the hijab she wears every day. So she’s built up protective walls and refuses to let anyone close enough to hurt her. Instead, she drowns her frustrations in music and spends her afternoons break-dancing with her brother. But then she meets Ocean James. He’s the first person in forever who really seems to want to get to know Shirin. It terrifies her—they seem to come from two irreconcilable worlds—and Shirin has had her guard up for so long that she’s not sure she’ll ever be able to let it down.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The author makes an eloquent plea for marine biodiversity conservation."—Library Journal "Harvell seems to channel the devotion that motivated the Blaschkas."—The Guardian Winner of the 2016 National Outdoor Book Award, Environment Category It started with a glass octopus. Dusty, broken, and all but forgotten, it caught Drew Harvell’s eye. Fashioned in intricate detail by the father-son glassmaking team of Leopold and Rudolf Blaschka, the octopus belonged to a menagerie of unusual marine creatures that had been packed away for decades in a storage unit. More than 150 years earlier, the Blaschkas had been captivated by marine invertebrates and spun their likenesses into glass, documenting the life of oceans untouched by climate change and human impacts. Inspired by the Blaschkas’ uncanny replicas, Harvell set out in search of their living counterparts. In A Sea of Glass, she recounts this journey of a lifetime, taking readers along as she dives beneath the ocean's surface to a rarely seen world, revealing the surprising and unusual biology of some of the most ancient animals on the tree of life. On the way, we glimpse a century of change in our ocean ecosystems and learn which of the living matches for the Blaschkas’ creations are, indeed, as fragile as glass. Drew Harvell and the Blaschka menagerie are the subjects of the documentary Fragile Legacy, which won the Best Short Film award at the 2015 Blue Ocean Film Festival & Conservation Summit. Known internationally for his novels, Neustadt Prize-winner Mia Couto first became famous for his short stories. Sea Loves Me includes sixty-four of his best, thirty-six of which appear in English for the first time. Covering the entire arc of Couto's career, this collection displays the Mozambican author's inventiveness, sensitivity, and social range with greater richness than any previous collection—from early stories that reflect the harshness of life under Portuguese colonialism; to magical tales of rural Africa; to contemporary fables of the fluidity of race and gender, environmental disaster, and the clash between the countryside and the city. The title novella, long acclaimed as one of Couto's best works but never before available in English, caps this collection with the lyrical story of a search for a lost father that leads unexpectedly to love.

Book Walking with My Eyes Closed

Download or read book Walking with My Eyes Closed written by William X. Lincoln and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2013-04 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We all have a story to tell I just decided to write mines in poetry. To let people know it's possible to overcome our mountains. I'm not perfect but I do have faith. This book is about overcoming not just mountains but even ourselves. We always think that we know what we are doing and where were going. We have been fooling ourselves in so many ways. This book is to let people know you can change your situations. Sometimes we must go through it so we can show it. To show what faith can do even if it's the size of a mustard seed. This book is to let people know that no matter what your past was like you can still become something special. Your past only determine your future unless you let it. This book is about Pain from a love one, Struggles in Life, Regrets that we make, Victory over the enemy, Faith, Love, Manhood, Family and the Value of Living. You must have a test in order to have a testimony. This book is about becoming a Victor and not a Victim. How you are at your best when you are tired and have nothing left to give in your body. But, you still hold your head high and keep fighting the good fight. Like they say you can get knocked down 5 times as long as you got up 6 times. Somebody told me that it's better to see where you going and that the blind can't lead the blind. I say that's the problem we depend on man to lead. But, also when you can't see where we going. We must depend on somebody to guide us through the dark times. It just depends on who you choose to guide you. The blind can't lead the blind because both are blind MEN. I want GOD to guide me this time. That's why I named the book "Walking With My Eyes Closed".
