Book The Sound Sculptures of Bernard and Fran ois Baschet

Download or read book The Sound Sculptures of Bernard and Fran ois Baschet written by François Baschet and published by Edicions Universitat Barcelona. This book was released on 2017-04-12 with total page 487 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a classic in the history of art. In it François Baschet recounts the research and creation of his Sound Sculptures, with which he began a pioneering career combining art and science, sculpture and music. The willingness to share his findings inspired another breakthrough: participatory exhibitions, spaces where everyone could explore and play with sound. François Baschet’s conception of acoustics—a method of understanding the functional relations between form, matter, action and sound—not only gave rise to the invention of hundreds of Sound Sculptures of all sizes and sonority, which can be found all over the world, but also led François and his brother to collaborate with personalities such as Jean Cocteau, Pierre Schaeffer and ToruTakemitsu. François Baschet relates a funny collection of stories about the artistic life in Paris and New York in 40s and 60s. This reissue of The Sound Sculptures of Bernard and François Baschet includes fragments still unpublished when the first edition appeared, and incorporates the original text of the Organologie des Structures Sonores Baschet (written by the two brothers), with Spanish translations.

Book Formes Du Salut

    Book Details:
  • Author : Emmanuelle Mercier
  • Publisher : Presses universitaires de Louvain
  • Release : 2020-05-27
  • ISBN : 287558958X
  • Pages : 108 pages

Download or read book Formes Du Salut written by Emmanuelle Mercier and published by Presses universitaires de Louvain. This book was released on 2020-05-27 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Formes du salut invites you to privately discover seven sculptures and a painted panel from the Val Duchesse Abbey. These works are part of abbot Mignot's collection, they were bequeathed to the Royal Trust and were deposited at the Musée L. Via this book, the Museum wishes to highlight the conservation-restoration work carried out at the Institut royal du patrimoine artistique (IRPA), thanks to the Baillet Latour Fund: apart from its practical use, which guarantees the preservation, durability and transmission of this heritage for future generations, this intervention has made it possible to document the uses and history of the sculptures, often reworked according to the circumstances of their exhibition. Therefore, the share of these works in religious life and, more precisely, their role in the search for salvation by Christians, lies also at the heart of this book. Emmanuelle Mercier (IRPA), Erika Rabelo (IRPA) and Matthieu Somon (UCLouvain) have created a kind of religious art pragmatics and they reconstruct the inscription of the works in the religious life of the medieval period: the interactions were much livelier than their current presentation might lead one to believe!

The contributors--a veritable who's who of the most venerable names in Greek archaeology--include both those who have excavated at the sites in question and scholars who have spent a lifetime studying the monuments about which they write. Presented here are the legendary sites of ancient Greece, including the Athenian Acropolis, Olympia, Delphi, Schliemann's Mycenae, and the Athenian Agora; the most iconic sculptures in the Greek world, such as the Aphrodite of Melos and the Nike of Samothrace; and several fascinating chapters on underwater archaeology discussing the Kyrenia and Uluburun shipwrecks and the astonishing bronze masterpieces raised from the sea. This is the first book to bring together the archaeological legacy of ancient Greece in a concise and accessible way while still preserving the excitement of discovery.

Book Primitivism in Modern Art

    Book Details:
  • Author : Robert Goldwater
  • Publisher : Harvard University Press
  • Release : 1986
  • ISBN : 9780674704909
  • Pages : 374 pages

Download or read book Primitivism in Modern Art written by Robert Goldwater and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 1986 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This now classic study maps the profound effect of primitive art on modern, as well as the primitivizing strain in modern art itself. Robert Goldwater describes how and why works by primitive artists attracted modern painters and sculptors, and he delineates the differences between what is truly primitive or archaic and what intentionally embodies such elements. His analysis distinguishes the romanticism of Gauguin; an emotional primitivism exemplified by the Brücke and Blaue Reiter groups in Germany; the intellectual primitivism of Picasso and Modigliani; and a “primitivism of the subconscious” in Miró, Klee, and Dali. Two of Goldwater's related essays—“Judgments of Primitive Art, 1905–1965” and “Art History and Anthropology”—have been added for this new paperback edition.
