Book MCTP 3 01A Scouting and Patrolling

Download or read book MCTP 3 01A Scouting and Patrolling written by Us Marine Corps and published by . This book was released on 2020-07 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The evolution of modern warfare prompts the need for advanced and modernized tactics which provide Marines with enhanced scouting and patrolling procedures. Essential in meeting this requirement was the integration of Marine Corps Interim Publication (MCIP) 3-02.1i, Combat Hunter with Marine Corps Tactical Publication (MCTP) 3-01A, Scouting and Patrolling. As witnessed during Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, the combat tested tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTP) contained herein have matured into effective tools, which-when paired with enhanced scouting techniques and a hunter's mindset to "always be the hunter, never the prey"-are highly effective in conducting patrols. This mindset continues to be taught throughout the training and education continuum for both officers and enlisted Marines alike, from entry-level training to professional military education. Scouting and patrolling skills are an essential part of all tactical operations which assist the commander in developing a deeper understanding of the operational environment, locating threats, determining enemy or adversary intentions, and developing effective methods for targeting them. Marines must be able to make rapid and effective decisions, as well as identify threats from inside or outside of friendly areas. All Marines, regardless of military occupational specialty, should be capable of effectively participating in basic patrolling missions. Therefore, the TTP included herein are applicable across the Marine air-ground task force. This publication supersedes MCTP 3-01A, Scouting and Patrolling, dated 17 April 2001, eratum dated 2 May 2016 and cancels MCIP 3-02.1i, Combat Hunter, dated 4 February 2011.

Download or read book Hodges Scout written by Len Travers and published by JHU Press. This book was released on 2015-12 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Many Americans probably know the French and Indian War by way of the film adaptation (1992) of Cooper's Last of the Mohicans. In it Michael Mann directs the young Daniel Day-Lewis and, in parts, succeeds in capturing the strange solitude of warring in endless forest and the sudden ferocity of battle during this first truly world war. Writing an unusual work of art and history, Len Travers here excavates the story of a colonial-American 'lost patrol' during that war, turning musty documents into a gripping tale that could reach well beyond an academic readership. Fifty provinical soldiers left the fringes of settlement in fall, 1756, aiming to safeguard the upper reaches of New York. Within days, near Lake George, native warriors, allies of the French, jumped them. Surprised and overwhelmed, the colonists suffered death or capture. The fifteen surviviors lived for years as prisoners of their native captors. Eventually a few of them managed to work their back to their villages and families, living to tell their stories. Travers's remarkable research brings human experiences alive, giving us a rare, full color view of the French and Indian War. These personal accounts throw light on the motives, means, and methods of both colonists and Natives at war in the American wilderness. They also speak to the nature of war itself"--
