Book King Saul

    Book Details:
  • Author : Samuel Ridout

  • Pages : 243 pages

Download or read book King Saul written by Samuel Ridout and published by Irving Risch. This book was released on 2015-04-17 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The following pages, begun several years ago, and now, in the mercy of God, completed, are an effort to give a brief series of notes upon the first book of Samuel. The title, "King Saul: the man after the flesh," shows us the central figure of the book, a type too of the fleshly condition of the nation as a whole. The lessons connected with the rise, reign and end of King Saul are many, and all point to the utter unprofitableness of the flesh in its greatest excellence to be aught that is acceptable to God. The subject in one sense is a depressing one, and the proper effect should be to turn us from the contemplation of the man after the flesh to the man after God's own heart, David, who comes upon the scene in the latter part of the book and shows the contrast between faith and nature. As a type of Christ, he is the antidote to the baleful example and influence of poor Saul, and thus shows how God would ever lead, even through the knowledge of sin in ourselves and of the evil about us, not to occupation with that, but with Him who is the Deliverer of His people. May the Lord use this effort to trace the workings of the flesh and the triumphs of His grace to the blessing of His people! A word of explanation may not be out of place as to the character of Jonathan spoken of in the body of the book. The matter is one of great delicacy, and the writer shrinks from taking the edge off any wholesome lessons that have been connected with the character and position of Jonathan, but would only call attention to what is said in the body of the book and leave each reader free to draw his own conclusions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The artist Michelangelo immortalized the image of David, using everyday tools to depict this man after God’s own heart. Yet while Michelangelo’s David offers us a full view of David the man, the scriptures offer us a full image of his heart and soul. So can David match the image depicted by Michelangelo? Can David match our own image of him? And can David match the heart of God? In David and Michelangelo: Heart and Stone, authors Dr. Stephen Harrison and Richard Huizinga seek to identify the traits that justify the “heart of God” as an early descriptor of David. By exploring the life and trials of David—his successes as well as his failures—we can get a complete picture of this man after God’s own heart, learning in the process how we too can always seek God despite our imperfections. The heart after God’s own is that portion of ourselves that remains attracted to God despite our flaws. By exploring the enduring image and character of David, we can begin to chip away at the image we had in order to find that heart of David that is man after God’s own heart.

Book A Man after God s Own Heart

Download or read book A Man after God s Own Heart written by Brad Stewart and published by Blackstone Publishing. This book was released on 2015-03-18 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: David was a man after God's own heart . . . What does it mean to be someone "after God's own heart?" David, King, psalmist and shepherd, gives us a picture with his own life. In many ways he is an extraordinary role model, a man who was fully human but exceeded expectations and pointed others towards God. While the other side of David is most ordinary showing a life filled with destruction, chaos, tragedy and his personal struggle with sin. How then did David become the national hero of God's chosen people? Why is he the one character in the Bible described as "a man after God's own heart?" David's life offers hope to all of us. It shows that God can do extraordinary things through ordinary men and women. And David offers an insightful perspective on what it means to be truly a man, to become like David―men after God's own heart. In this study David will delight and disappoint you. At times you will desire to be just like him while at others you will want to turn and run! The Life of David is one of the most colorful examples of manhood in all of Scripture. You will be introduced to select key characteristics of David's life but unlike David, we have time to make our lives right before God and to lovingly lead our homes. This interactive study features eight weeks of individual study materials with a leader’s guide and suggested teaching plans at the back of the book.

Download or read book The Heart After GodaEUR tm s Heart written by Curtis Carr and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2023-01-21 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: King David was a man after God's own heart. Have you ever wondered what God saw in David--or, rather, the characteristics that David exhibited for God to adorn him with this title? David was not perfect or absent of sin but called, appointed, and anointed by God just like every Christian believer. The Heart After God's Heart: Messages from First Samuel details these characteristics along with other relevant and insightful revelations from God's word using the Old Testament book of 1 Samuel. You and I can be Christians after God's own heart and excel in personal growth--even better than David--as we have within us God's Holy Spirit. Build up yourself in God, and advance in your Christian faith with this understanding and other messages. Look at the story of David and Goliath in a new light relevant to your Christian walk today. Discover how the children of Israel are a type and shadow of our Christian life now. God's heart begins with prayer and communion. Every believer should make prayer a lifelong learning experience. Hannah demonstrates how every Christian should be vitally connected to God through prayer. Samuel, the priest and prophet, uses his life to convey how we belong to God wholly and totally. Any believer who gives up his life to Jesus will know the meaning of losing his life to gain the whole world. We have been born again and handed over to his providence. We experience the heart of disobedience through Saul's reign as king and then David's heart of obedience as a shepherd, giant slayer, covenant brother, and anointed king--a man after God's own heart. Their experiences together reveal to us the heart after God's heart. 2

Book excerpt: The Life Of David is a message of meditation based on the Bible and written by Arthur Walkington Pink was born in Nottingham, England, to a corn merchant, a devout non-conformist of uncertain denomination, though probably a Congregationalist. Otherwise, almost nothing is known of Pink's childhood or education except that he had some ability and training in music. As a young man, Pink joined the Theosophical Society and apparently rose to enough prominence within its ranks that Annie Besant, its head, offered to admit him to its leadership circle. In 1908 he renounced Theosophy for evangelical Christianity. Desiring to become a minister but unwilling to attend a liberal theological college in England, Pink very briefly studied at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago in 1910 before taking the pastorate of the Congregational church in Silverton, Colorado. In 1912 Pink left Silverton, probably for California, and then took a joint pastorate of churches in rural Burkesville and Albany, Kentucky. In 1916, he married Vera E. Russell (1893–1962), who had been reared in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Pink's next pastorate seems to have been in Scottsville. Then the newlyweds moved in 1917 to Spartanburg, South Carolina, where Pink became pastor of Northside Baptist Church. By this time Pink had become acquainted with prominent dispensationalist Fundamentalists, such as Harry Ironside and Arno C. Gaebelein, and his first two books, published in 1917 and 1918, were in agreement with that theological position. Yet Pink's views were changing, and during these years he also wrote the first edition of The Sovereignty of God (1918), which argued that God did not love sinners and had deliberately created "unto damnation" those who would not accept Christ. Whether because of his Calvinistic views, his nearly incredible studiousness, his weakened health, or his lack of sociability, Pink left Spartanburg in 1919 believing that God would "have me give myself to writing." But Pink then seems next to have taught the Bible with some success in California for a tent evangelist named Thompson while continuing his intense study of Puritan writings.
