Download or read book Sardines in My Saddlebags written by Joe T. and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2018-01-13 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Denali, Alaska, was on a friends bucket list for his sixty-fifth year, and the author came along for the ride. His son sealed the deal by gifting him an Arai helmet for the Alaska-or-Bust journey. So, with a pat on the back from his Mayo Clinic doctors and toting ninety days of Wellbutrin, Lamictal, and Latanaprost in the saddlebags of his very heavily laden 2011 Heritage Softail Harley Davidson, he motored off as the third wheel. The bust occurred in Dodge City due to incompatibility with time, but Joe continued and made the trip his own in a wild and wonderful way. This is the journal and adventure of a crazy 60 year old, riding his Harley and camping with only a Rand McNally road atlas and a go-pay phone - 77 days @ 17,520 miles.

Book White Waters and Black

Book excerpt: "In White Waters and Black Gordon MacCreagh, with a wicked eye for absurdities, recounts his adventures with eight "Eminent Scientificos" as they set out to explore the Amazon in 1923 without any idea of what lies ahead of them: rapids, malaria, monkey stew, and "dangerous savages." A combination of Mark Twain's The Innocents Abroad and a cautionary tale for explorers, this is one of the most honest accounts ever written of a scientific expedition."

It took him two years, two months and fifteen days. He rode 36 500 kilometres through 34 different countries. In Around Africa on my Bicycle, Manser tells the story of this epic journey. It is a story of blood, sweat, toil and tears. It is a story of triumph and occassional disaster. Of nights out under the stars, of searing heat and rain, of endless miles of Africa and of pressing on and never surrendering whatever the odds. Mostly however it is the story of one man's courage and determination to escape the mundane and see the continent he loves and feels so much a part of. It is a story of the human warmth he encounters, and occasionally human wrath and hostility as he crosses troubled countries and borders.

Book Cervantes Don Quixote

Download or read book Cervantes Don Quixote written by Anthony J. Close and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1990-05-31 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Anthony Close's study places Don Quixote in the context of Cervantes' life and literary career, and in the book's cultural and social background. It focuses primarily on the central problems of Cervantine comedy, the use of burlesque, the presentation of characters through dialogue, the narrator's viewpoint, the virtuoso play with registers, and the complex and elusive irony. Using detailed analysis of individual passages, Dr Close shows how the moral themes of the novel are distilled in its humour, and in the characters of Don Quixote and Sancho. He also gives particular attention to the impact of this landmark text on the development of the European novel.

The story, and the meta-story of its telling, evolved into a Transformative peace of non-fiction. I would never return the same. My journey through history and culture, my passage through nexuses of spirituality and science, my battle with apathy and aggression, brought me to the rocky and elusive middle path; and it all began with my first bicycle tour and the retelling of it. Join me in the unfolding experience that is Spacetime Bicycle: The Beginning

Book Travels and Researches in Native North America 1882 1883

Download or read book Travels and Researches in Native North America 1882 1883 written by Herman Frederik Carel Kate and published by UNM Press. This book was released on 2004 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This important but little-known account of several southwestern tribes has heretofore been available only in the author's native Dutch. Ten Kate's studies of the Pima, Hopi, Apache, and Zuni people are especially noteworthy for their information on tribal cultures. He observed firsthand and sought out informants willing to elaborate on Indian games and sports and on social organization and myths of religious significance. He was particularly interested in the position of women and treatment of children and admired the natives' attitudes on these matters more than did other early anthropologists. His best material is from his extended stay at Zuni, where he and Frank Hamilton Cushing became lifelong friends. His observations on the impact of whites on Indian cultures constitute valuable documentation of the dilution of native life-styles. Although he is not as well known as contemporaries like Bandelier, Bourke, and Matthews, ten Kate's work remains influential in the field after more than 120 years.
