Download or read book Chloroform written by Peter Watts and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2004-10-08 with total page 65 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chloroform is a clear, colourless, volatile liquid which is used in the production of refrigerants and as a fluoropolymer feedstock. It may be released into the environment from chlorodifluoromethane plants and from pulp and paper mills using chlorine-based chemicals for bleaching and disinfection purposes. Chloroform is also the principal by-product of water disinfectant processes. It is estimated that the vast majority of chloroform emissions into the environment are natural in origin. This publication, part of a series from the International Programme on Chemical Safety, evaluates the risk to human health and the environment posed by exposures to chloroform.

Download or read book Acrylonitrile written by G. Long and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book evaluates the risk to human health and the environment posed by exposures to acrylonitrile. Acrylonitrile is a volatile, flammable, water-soluble liquid at room temperature. The large majority of acrylonitrile in Canada is used as a feedstock or chemical aid in the production of nitrilebutadiene rubber, and in acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene and styrene-acrylonitrile polymers. Available data from studies in animals indicate that acrylonitrile is a skin respiratory and severe eye irritant. Increases in cancer incidence have not been consistently observed in available human epidemiological studies. A range of tumors in rats studies are evaluated for carcinogenic potency of acrylonitrile on humans.

Download or read book Ethylene Glycol written by R. Gomes and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book evaluates the risk to human health of ethylene glycol. Ethylene glycol is a colorless, odorless, sweet-tasting, relatively non-volatile liquid. It is used in the manufacture of poly-ethylene terephthalate, in natural gas processing, and as an antifreeze agent. Available data from acute poisoning cases (humans) and repeated-dose toxicity studies (experimental ani-mals), indicate that the kidney is a critical organ for the toxicity of ethylene glycol in both humans and experimental animals.
