Book Introduction to Sanskrit Part I

Download or read book Introduction to Sanskrit Part I written by Thomas Egenes and published by Motilal Banarsidass. This book was released on 2015-01-01 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text focuses on the beginning study of Classical Sanskrit, although several of the quotations are in Vedic Sanskrit. Normally, Vedic Sanskrit is studied after Classical Sanskrit is learned. This text is written to fulfil a need that still remains, which is to make the introductory study of Sanskrit simple, concise, and systematic, thereby making it more accessible and enjoyable for a beginning student. After completing this text, you should be able to study any of the above Sanskrit textbooks more comfortably or begin Part Two of this text. Part Two will feature the reading of selected verses from the Bhagavad-Gita, accompanied by a more thorough explanation of unfamiliar rules of grammar as they are encountered in the reading. Both volumes together will cover the basic rules of Sanskrit grammar. For college classes, Part One covers the standard material for a one-semester course and Part Two for the second semester. After completing Part Two, the student should be able to read the Bhagavad-Gita with the aid of a Sanskrit dictionary and a word-by-word English translation. There are several reasons to study the subtle and refined language of Sanskrit. The sound, script, grammar, and systematic nature of the language are charming in themselves, something of great beauty. The study of Sanskrit creates orderliness within the mind because Sanskrit is a highly systematic language, reflecting the orderliness of nature itself. Introduction to Sanskrit, in two volumes, is designed to open the door to India's rich spiritual literature. This self-teaching guide presents Sanskrit pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary in simple and systematic steps, allowing students to easily master the fundamentals of this enchanting language. The text gently leads the beginner through small steps with clear, concise explanations. Each lesson includes instruction in the alphabet, grammar, and vocabulary, with easy practice exercises at the end. Also included is a reading from the Bhagavad-Gita and Sanskrit quotations from the R.K. Samhita, Upanisads, Yoga Sutras, Brahma Sutra, and Manu Smrti. Part Two uses verses from the Bhagavad-Gita to teach principles of grammar and includes additional essays on Sanskrit grammar and pronunciation. For more information, please head to www.mlbd.co.in

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All spiritual seekers encounter problems. A question arises which appears to challenge the veracity of their chosen path. If an answer is not found quickly, there is a great danger that the particular teaching will be abandoned and another sought. Dennis Waite draws on traditional Advaita teachings to answer all seeker-related questions. He first invited questions to his website in 2005 and this book collects questions and answers in a comprehensive volume for experienced and new spiritual seekers. One answer often leads to a new worry, and his website adavaita-vision.org continues to accept questions. No question is too difficult for Advaita Vedanta and all answers are reasonable.

Book excerpt: In the present age of globalization, to learn a different language is a boon, as it enhances the career prospects and gives the knowledge of other cultures. There are a few languages which have their global utility like English, French, Chinese, Spanish, and Arabic etc. But Sanskrit is totally different from this group. According to the Oxford dictionary, Sanskrit is the language of learned people in India. It is true that this is a native Indian language, but this language has been given the status of the most suitable language for computers. In the view of scientists and researchers this is the language of future. It is said that Sanskrit is the mother of many Indian and European languages. This language is not just a language of communication but also the language that leads to spiritualism. Researchers have recently proclaimed that just by pronouncing this beautiful language one can get rid of one's illness. That is why this is called the language of GOD. Its grammar and pronunciation are based on scientific pattern. So, I am sure that by learning this special language one's life will be transformed completely. There are many books in the market that teach Sanskrit. Most of the books are written for Indian languages speaking persons. Though there a few books for English speakers but after viewing them, I found them not meeting the requirements of foreign learners because of their complexities. That is why I have written this book. Though this is the second edition of the book but I would like to call it the first one, because the book has been re-written thoroughly by keeping the suggestions of the readers in mind. This book has been written in a simple and lucid way. I have illustrated the principles of grammar in the book, so that the learner may be able to get to the heart of the Sanskrit language easily. A number of examples have been given in the book. Chapters on conversation and adages have been added. Vocabulary section has been divided into categories. The transliteration of the whole book has been provided. I think after careful study of the book, the readers will be able to understand the basics of the language. I am planning to give the audio version of the book free of cost to the readers in future. As soon as the version is ready I'll email it to the readers in mp3 format. To get the version, readers must send a request on the following email- [email protected]. Hopefully, the readers will enjoy the reading of the book.

Book excerpt: Gaudapada was one of the world’s greatest philosophers in seventh-century India. He invokes the mystical symbol ‘AUM’ (pronounced as ‘ohm’) pointing to the three states of consciousness (waking, dreaming and deep sleep) and the nature of reality itself. In the text on which this book is based, he writes that the waker, dreamer and deep-sleeper are like the roles that an actor plays at various times. All three states are the result of ignorance and error. Who we really are is the fourth aspect – the actor himself. If you see or feel a ‘thing’, then that ‘thing’ is not ‘real.’ So the waking world is no more real than the dream. ‘You’ have never been born. Nothing has ever been created. Causality is a myth. Discover your true nature to be Existence-Consciousness, without limitations, undivided and infinite, prior to time and space. Incredible? Read...and be convinced by the irrefutable logic of Gaudapada.

Book The Supplicate Order

Download or read book The Supplicate Order written by Patricia Mary Brown and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2009-04 with total page 507 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Supplication captures a universal, cross-cultural approach to spirituality. Authored by Dr. Patricia Brown, The Supplicate Order defines supplication as an expression for the laws and principles that guide a spiritual aspirant toward communion with the sacred (mysteries), progressing toward an expanded perception of life and grateful reception of blessings, positive creativity, healing, and wisdom. It shows how humanity bridges the manifest explicate order and the unmanifest implicate order. Offering a fresh perspective on supplication, The Supplicate Order carries four messages that pertain to spiritual aspirants at any level: Don't abandon yourself (to self-loathing or to another person's or group's absolute power over you) Start with what you know to do (don't be too eager to get exotic or far removed from your resonant spiritual persuasion) Never think you know everything Don't give up Brown explains how key universal principles verify the human capacity to bring forth "gifts of the spirit," while psychological health and development determine invocatory efforts and receptive capacities. The Supplicate Order integrates global spiritual wisdom and psychological knowledge with the trends of new science, highlighting the human invocation of the sacred.
