Book Enjoyable Sanskrit Grammar Volume 1 Basic Structure of the Language

Download or read book Enjoyable Sanskrit Grammar Volume 1 Basic Structure of the Language written by Medha Michika and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2016-10-10 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the revision of the book "Sanskrit Grammar for Vedanta Students." This series provides basic Sanskrit grammar which is sufficient to allow the student to read slokas and commentaries on Bhagavad Gita. I changed the title to "Enjoyable Sanskrit Grammar" because the more I teach the more I find that the impediment in learning Sanskrit is not intellectual, but psychological. As repeatedly emphasized by my respected guru, Sri Pujya Svami Dayananda Sarasvati, it is important to be relaxed and make the study enjoyable. In this book the presentation of the topics is based purely on the tradition, but at the same time I have tried to make it easily understandable by the student in the modern scheme. Throughout this series of grammar books, the knowledge of Sanskrit grammar is presented for understanding, rather than just memorizing. Only when the grammar and Panini's system to explain the grammar are understood, can one fully enjoy the language and the knowledge given through it. This series of books is therefore useful not only for students of scriptures in Sanskrit, but also for those who just want to gain an overview of the linguistics aspect of the Sanskrit language.

Book The Roots of the Bhagavadgita Volume I b

Download or read book The Roots of the Bhagavadgita Volume I b written by Gerard DC Kuiken and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2018-08-12 with total page 490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work aims for a translation close to what is found in the Sanskrit text. All translators make choices based on their background and understanding of the context of a text. Not knowing Sanskrit, a reader has to accept the translator's choices. By providing a dictionary, which includes the inflected forms occurring in the Sanskrit verses, the reader can accept the translation, change it, and/or gain a deeper understanding of the Sanskrit verse under consideration. Using the Index of Verb Forms, a student of Sanskrit can find examples of inflected forms applied in the 320 verses of the Bhagavadgita translated in this book. The Index of Meanings gives the underlying meaning of the root of a verb. In the introduction to each chapter, comments on the Svabhavikasutra and the Bhagavadgita are compared.

Book excerpt: If you only read one book of Hindu scripture, let that be Bhagavad Gita. Even though it can be read in just a few sessions, it captures the very essence of Hindu thought. In the last two centuries, hundreds of editions have been published in various Western languages. The author has translated Bhagavad Gita in a scholarly way, but not so scholarly that the general reader will find it obscure. Moreover, it is written from a perspective in which the Gita appears as much more than a work of world-class literature, but as a living religious text meant to inspire faith in the Divine. It is the nature and beauty of the Sanskrit language that it invites multiple interpretations. Dr. Shukavak's solution to this problem has been to utilize a system of annotation in the form of footnotes, which allows him to make a particular translation and then to show an alternative translation or interpretation when it is appropriate. The system of annotation utilizes the commentaries of three classical interpreters of Bhagavad Gita: Shankara, Ramanuja and Madhva.
