To delete it, they’ll need to recruit a team to access an eighty-year-old server farm in a remote location—which would be a lot easier to do if the records on the location of the server farm hadn’t been lost. This ‘earth’ opera—a tale with all the drama, expansiveness, and varied cast of a space opera, but set on earth—will appeal to anyone who’s ever felt out-of-control of the technology in their lives. Panacea Genesis is book one in the Panacea Trilogy. REVIEWS Source: “Judge, 30th Annual Writer’s Digest Self-Published Book Awards.” The pace was full of suspense. This topic will appeal to the Luddites who hate technology as well as Zuckerberg and everyone else who is using technology to its maximum yield. The conflict of the two factions really fuels the story, and this was filled with some fresh twists on technology that took the Matrix and Terminator to new territory [and] also kept focus on humanity. Quite intriguing story. This book has the complexity and scope of a space opera (like the "earth opera" descriptor) combined with the clarity of a Netflix series. The book is beautifully done. I would like to see it on a streaming service. Kudos on a lovely book - sometimes you can judge a book by its cover. Source: 5-star rating by Bookish Overall, Panacea Genesis was a wonderful and gripping sci-fi novel that explored the impact of futuristic technology on people’s everyday lives. Themes included technology, invasion of privacy, family, and deception. Recommended to: lovers of sci-fi novels that ask important questions about the role of technology in our lives.

Download or read book Of Mothers and Other Perishables written by Radhika Oberoi and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2024-06-25 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Of Mothers and Other Perishables is an exquisite articulation of grief. It is also the sharp-eyed tale of a city tethered to violence and bursting with nazms. The morbidly funny voice of a dead woman echoes through the walls of her beloved storeroom, a compact space that contains her earthly belongings: cupboards full of silk sarees and baby clothes, albums of black-and-white photographs, a collection of vinyl records, a record player, old leather suitcases, an ebony-and-gold sewing machine. She reminisces about the past, and about the disease that causes her untimely death. Her storeroom becomes a quaint Bioscope of her life in Delhi as a young woman in the 1970s and 80s, decades that bring her romance, marriage, motherhood. The novel oscillates between the dead woman’s yearnings and the immediacy and excitement of a parallel narrative — her daughter’s. Nicknamed The Wailer (from the band Bob Marley and the Wailers), the dead woman’s daughter offers a sardonic glimpse into the world of advertising — the night before a presentation, temperamental colleagues, the buzz of writers and art directors at work. But the peculiar dynamics of The Wailer’s advertising firm alter drastically, when protests break out in the city of Delhi. Protesters swarm the streets, hollering against a new bill that persecutes the Muslim community. A Muslim art director is drawn to the pulsing heart of this movement. The Wailer, too, is inadvertently involved. Both narratives — the deceased mother’s digressional memories, and The Wailer’s palpable reality — also tell of Toon, The Wailer’s younger sister, who is the CEO of a coffee startup. Their worlds converge to offer shards of the past, and navigate through a turbulent present. Personal and political histories collide in this haunting tale of many betrayals.
Download or read book Been There Done That written by Bonita D. Evans and published by BookRix. This book was released on 2018-03-05 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A young woman wants more in life than is being offered as she reaches maturity. Always daring, outspoken and adventurous, she dreams of life beyond her neighborhood and the people she grew up with. The late 1950s and early 1960s rarely offered opportunities to women wishing to reach out and grab a piece of life. Even something as simple as traveling from one state to another, required that they be either chaperoned by a man, or herded into a group like cows. Funny, painful, and at times, incredible, you will find yourself travelling with her, as she makes an escape from a boring switchboard operator's job at a neighborhood bank, to travel for 24 years around the world

Download or read book Aspects of Literary Comprehension written by Rolf A. Zwaan and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 1993-01-01 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Given the fact that there are widely different types of text, it is unlikely that every text is processed in the same way. It is assumed here that for each text type, proficient readers have developed a particular cognitive control system, which regulates the basic operations of text comprehension. The book focuses on the comprehension of literary texts, which involves specific cognitive strategies that enable the reader to respond flexibly to the indeterminacies of the literary reading situation. The study relies heavily on methods and theoretical conceptions from cognitive psychology and presents the results of experiments carried out with real readers. The results are not only relevant to research problems in literary theory, but also to the study of discourse comprehension in general.

They were given the titles of Ascension and Chaos as recognition of their ferocious might. A millennia after his wife and son were murdered, Aergos—the Demon King, Lord of Chaos, and ruler of the lost kingdom of Amedus—wakes up alone in the Void Realm, stripped of all memory. With the help of his son’s spirit, he learns of his kingdom’s destruction at the hands of Elysium, the cruel Holy Priestess and daughter of Cydius, the Lord of Ascension and ruler of the rival kingdom of Requiem. Desperate to restore balance in the world and stop Elysium’s ongoing reign of terror, Aergos traverses immaterial planes and finds his way back into the realm of the Gem of Purity, where he was first banished on that fateful day a thousand years ago. There, he discovers his access point to the world he once knew: a magical mirror. Enter Kisara, a maid to King Cydius, condemned to a life of servitude. After discovering the Gauntlet of Edin, a powerful relic embedded with the Gem of Purity wherein Aergos is trapped, she makes contact with the Demon King. Both seeking freedom from their respective prisons, Kisara and Aergos make a pact to uncover the truth of Amedus’s destruction and the whereabouts of the evil Holy Priestess. Kisara dons the gauntlet, creating a telepathic link with Aergos, and escapes Requiem. This is Aergos’s last chance for redemption, and blood will stain the earth before peace even has a chance to be restored.
Download or read book The Practice of Reservoir Engineering Revised Edition written by L.P. Dake and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2001-05-10 with total page 493 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This revised edition of the bestselling Practice of Reservoir Engineering has been written for those in the oil industry requiring a working knowledge of how the complex subject of hydrocarbon reservoir engineering can be applied in the field in a practical manner. Containing additions and corrections to the first edition, the book is a simple statement of how to do the job and is particularly suitable for reservoir/production engineers as well as those associated with hydrocarbon recovery. This practical book approaches the basic limitations of reservoir engineering with the basic tenet of science: Occam's Razor, which applies to reservoir engineering to a greater extent than for most physical sciences - if there are two ways to account for a physical phenomenon, it is the simpler that is the more useful. Therefore, simplicity is the theme of this volume. Reservoir and production engineers, geoscientists, petrophysicists, and those involved in the management of oil and gas fields will want this edition.
